I’m so impressed; you’re videos are always so aesthetically coordinated and idk how you have that much attention to detail. It’s perfect I love it 😂
Ok I need this because I still haven’t read a single book yet this year.... so I need the help desperately Jesse!
I've only read 3 and if I don't read another by Tuesday I fall behind schedule
Hype yourself so you will read with excitement, I did it with Harry potter and the name of the wind (there is an animation on yt very awesome) and Sherlock Holmes, just find inspiration, Info about the book but no spoilers, get confy

That's the best way to make oneself to read
i read one.
I’m the same!!! My goal of 2-3 books a month is seriously lacking. Audiobooks are great though, I listen when I need something to chill me out when I’m stressed!

I really needed this video! Homework, booktube videos, and reading are all hard to manage! Thanks for the video, Jesse! 🤗
Hi Troy! I'm a big fan of your KOTLC videos
Woah, Troy! FROM KOTLC FANBASE!?!? HI!!!!!
Emily O'Neal omg what how did y’all find me??? 😱 Love you guys, thanks for supporting the channel and watching my videos. ❤️🤗❤️
Just Minnie hiiiiiii! It’s so cool that you watch Jesse too! 😀
Oh, hey Troy!
...... I saw that crazy tweet posted on Instagram and I messaged it to my boyfriend and wrote “should I do this??” And he was like NOOOO.
Boba in the background...."I'M SOO LONELY!!!😭"
Sip break!!!
Boba(happy drink sounds): "yayyyyyyy"
That guy who cuts books in half is literally Thanos 😂😂😂
3:53 that happens to me every time I try to read. I always read the same sentence or even the same paragraph over and over again withought having thoughts in my mind, and it is very painful and exhausting but I can't help it. And that makes me very slow reader.
Same with me. When I have a lot going on and my mood isn't that good I begin to zone out and read the same sentences over and over again or just thinking about every other thing but the book.
If anyone knows a solution for this please write it here!
what helped me when this got realy bad for me was listening to books! the narrator just moves on at the same pace, so for me, it forced me to focus on the bigger picture and "trained" me to read sentences and not focus on every little detail. idk if it would help anyone else or made sense, but since i started the problem got a lot better. :)
2:55 “read first thing in the morning”

Jesse: Just don’t do a Tom Riddle
Me: oh I think i messed up
I'm distracted from the awesome 'how to read more books' with the 'got yelled at on instagram for using a plastic straw'.
As though not using plastic straws does anything. Plastic is in almost everything. Even paper cups (for your coffee). We've integrated so much of our civilisation around it that it's never going to go away. We rely on it too much. It's ridiculous and ignorant to yell at someone for using a plastic straw as though not using one will impact the plastic issue. AT ALL.
/end rant. Sorry about that.
edit: that guy who cut his book makes me want to cut something ... not a book. But *something*
I do think that limiting plastic use is good, but instead of targeting the common person for their plastic use (in a lot of cases they need to use plastic since it's affordable) how about we start targeting the rich since they produce the most waste 🤷♂️
@@isaacisis5876 A better idea, I agree.
At least it’s a step into the right direction, not using a plastic stare can be a bi step for someone who really doesn’t think about all the plastic that they consume on a daily basis so don’t make people think that that one plastic straw will barely make a dent which will make the person feel as though it doesn’t matter when it does! Yes I agree that humans rely on plastic too much and it truly is heartbreaking but I am so proud of people for eliminating plastic straws from their plastic intake because it really does make a difference! It also inspires people to explore the zero waste life style!
@@alicenelson4376 I agree things need to change. I *don't* agree with people screaming at others over social media about it because they're too immature to have polite conversation.
@@mischarowe
I mean, it's a step in the right direction. Don't say that it doesn't help because if people stop using straws it WILL make a difference (less turtles with straws stuck in their nose.. less animals that'll get wrapped up in straws etc.).
And one needs to start somewhere.
But yelling at someone for using a plastic straw? Nah. You can message someone and politely suggest metal straws to them cause it'll help the environment.
But well oh well. Since Covid came around we have a new problem: masks. People not getting rid of masks the right way make me sick. People just throwing their trash on the ground in general make me sick and I'd like to slap them in the face. Cause 99% of the time I asked someone to not do that they did not care and told me to fuck off. One dude was extremely polite... commenting on my short pants (they were normals shorts that cut almost over my knee, so you couldn't even see my thighs), saying he won't listen to a girl who's dressed like a 'fucking filthy whore' and that I should kill myself. He said he doesn't care about 'fucking dumb' nature and that he's so sick of and annoyed by environment idiots talking about the ocean being polluted.
I complained about him throwing his trash straight into the ocean. There was a rubbish bin behind him.
I just hope he chokes on plastic when going swimming in the ocean the next time. Sorry not sorry.
I just failed two midterms (well, they were both D's, but still), so this made my day a bit brighter. Thank you Jesse!
every booktuber:
take a book everywhere you go!
me: *but when I carry it in my school bag it gets destroyed in like 2 days aahhh*
edit: yes, i do own a book sleeve. it just gets so cramped up in there, my books get dirty anyways.
I carry 10 books to school.... they're fine....
Ain’t that the truth sis
a booksleeve might help!
I always carry a book to work and put it in 2 jute bags because I'm scared that it gets destroyed
that's when audiobooks and ebooks come in handy for me! I can't always bring a physical book with me, but ebooks and audiobooks are easier 😉
3:56 Series of Unfortunate Events vibes here!
Strange Bookish Child haha I remember that part
Yess!
4 VIDEOS IN 4 DAYS
JESSE HAS BLESSED US ALL
I love bubble tea! My friend says its like drinking frog eggs and hates it though 😂. Wait..... How does she know what frog eggs are like......
"I am a creature of habit okay I need some help" this is so relatable
A tip for people who want to read more books but feel unable to achieve that goal because of school:
Find ANY freetime either in between lessons or when you're done with your classwork and use that freetime for reading, even if it's only one page but you're still reading and getting along the story of the book.
I have read 4 books this year to me that is crazy having a great reading year. Planning to read the fifth book in the Wardstone chronicles and Imaginary friend by stephen Chobosky
Dogs And songs more than I have read.... I’ve only read one book. 😭😭 I’ve been in a book slump.
I've read 3 and my next book is 710 pages on my kindle oof
@@tallulahpauline3327 Hey, you got this bro ❤ just gotta keep pushing forward
me too! well done!
I've just finished my 4th book and currently started my 5th which is pretty good for me normally I may have read 1 by this point and be on my second 🙈 it always baffles me how people can read hundreds I always think they can't possibly take in and enjoy every book they are reading if they are reading so many.
Sometimes I go back to an old favorite to remember how great it feels to be so immersed in a book that it becomes more important than sleep :)
Yeah, books and Boba... This book combination is just a dream come true.
The man who cuts his books in half to make it more portable...v.s me over here carrying my copy of queen of air and darkness to school...
Same lol. Right now I'm reading a thick paperback volume that's two books in one and I carry it in my bookbag for school every day. ಡ ͜ ʖ ಡ

This is just the video I needed! So many books, so little time! 😅
RIGHT!? glad this video showed up at the right time. :D
@@jessethereader 😄
I’ve had such a stressful end of December/January with uni assignments and exams and placement, I’ve not finished a single book yet. I can’t focus on the book when i’m stressed about other stuff and when I pick it back up I find I don’t even remember what I previously read, I need to be in the right head space. I do find though that audio books are easier for me when I’m like this, I put it on to fall asleep to, it calms my mind focusing on listening to the story!
the background is so beautiful!!
also i can relate to the reading the same sentence thing, my mind needs to shut up when I'm reading!!!
I love how creative you are being with your video ideas. You seem like you're really enjoying it and I'm happy.
Was the “reading the same sentence over again, reading the same sentence over again,” a reference to A Bad Beginning?
Yes, I think it is
I think the one thing that stops me from reading is getting ideas *about* books instead of *books themselves.* I mean, on my channel, I have a lot of book review videos, but then I have a ton of videos like Recent Reads and Wrap-Ups and that sort of thing. BTW, I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS, JESSE!!!
This is perfect for the start of the year! Last year was chaotic for many reasons so I couldn't read much, and when I had the time I had no energy, so I'm hoping this year is different. Love your videos :)
“poor your soul into the page- just don’t pull a tom riddle” hahahahaha
Something that’s helped me already this year is to set a one hour timer on my phone and do nothing but read for that one hour. That really helps me and often I read past the one hour mark. (If you have less time on your hands you can do less time like 30 minutes or even 15)
I love your background set up! Especially that frame and mug. So aesthetically pleasing! =D
ive finished four books this year, although its not as much as other booktubers im pretty happy! (they were longish books)
I’ve had so much trouble finding the time for reading. I really needed to see this. You are such an inspiration and a light. I love your videos so much and the fact that your videos so fun is amazing
Regular milk tea with black boba pearls is my go to: YUM! I bought my own and I make it at home, I love it so much 😭
We blessed because Jesse uploaded 4 vids this week 😄
Also I'm reading Glass Crown rn
You remind me of a friend I know and love. She's just like you, she loves books and is #dramatic 😂
I relate so much to the "remember reading is fun" thing So Much. I was a major reader until school sucked the joy out of it and that is so hard to unlearn
Milk tea all the way! The only other alternative is if there is peach and strawberry popping boba involved and then you have to go with pina colada!
I really enjoyed this video. Bubble tea is delicious. And your background is gorgeous. 🖤 I’m really enjoying your more unique video ideas!
3:36 that is actually that I realized happens to me a lot and I’m getting worried about it. No matter if I’m reading or watching a tv show I just seem to loose any ties to the real world, after a while I pull my head out of the fiction and end up really sad because I start remembering what real life is, specially right now when every problem a household can have is happening. I started crying a lot like a week ago because of this, I hate that my mind is capable of erasing everything that makes me “me” and start believing I’m the main character in whatever I’m watching/reading. I was watching “Your lie in April” when that hit me, when I realized that a lot of the concerns of the main character started to pull me out of the fiction because those are worries that I have.
You might call it a good way of reading faster, I consider it another thing that goes through my mind when I’m sad.
I hate that the fact that I love stories so much makes me sad that I can’t write my own.
You are honestly such a light spot in my day!😊
🖤
Another piece of advice:
Either go and stand in your favorite genre of Barnes & Nobel or a local bookstore or even go to amazon recommendations and find a book that looks SUPER good and read it as soon as you get the chance. Let yourself be excited to read that book and go for it. Usually that leads to wanting to read other books and ta da! Reading!
I love the uploading streak your on Jessi!
I have a ton of TBR that I just don't read as school and after school clubs but this year I hope to read more books.
My go to bobba is mango black tea with passionfruit balls.
I absolutely LOVE passion fruit boba!!!!
Also, wow you're totally high on bubble tea cause you've been legit uploading a lot!!!!!!!!! (Not that I'm complaining)
OMG milk tea with Boba is MY FAVE. I need to find a place near me that sells it because I haven't had any since I was abroad last year! Loved this video, though. Watching Booktube always helps reignite my excitement for reading again as well, so thanks for aiding in your viewers' excitement for reading :D
I still have my bubble tea from Tuesday in the fridge (I’m a slow drinker) and this weekend (despite having volunteer work on Saturday) I’ll be reading Legend by Marie Lu
I know this is off topic, but I love the Rae Dunn mug in the background 😍☕️
I love this new series ! And bubble tea is amazing 😍
My go-to boba drink is always brown sugar milk tea! I was a boba addict in college and now I try to practice more self-control. Haha I want to try reading first thing in the morning but I always 1) turn the alarm off and go back to sleep for another half hour lol, or 2) scroll through my phone after turning the alarm off. But this video has inspired me to try anyway, so hopefully I'll be able to read more physical books again!
I really like your list! And your special effects! Awesome!!!
I read paper book while listening to the audiobook too, it helps me much since my mind tends to wander around in the middle of sentences.
How Jesse can write, film and edit a video in one day is a mystery...
Hey guys. I had found myself in a reading slump for a very long time. But its a new year and a first month. So here's what I did. I decided that I wanted to keep up a reading journal. I wrote down each month with two books to read. Wich means I should finish those two books befor the end of the month. It really helps me although I mostly get motivated the last half of the month because I work harder under the stress of a deathline😂👏🏼👏🏼*ScHoOl*
I like this new boba book break segment! Next time you should get matcha 😍 also, I call it both boba and bubble tea 🤷♀️
me: i haven’t read enough this year
also me: reading a 800 page book
edit: i finished the book, and the series (it was harry potter) hehe
Relatable. That's so tiring ;-;
I'm playing a game and see Jesse post I immediately click it and just watch it. I LOVE you Jesse💖
Oooooh this backdrop! The aesthetic 😍
Thanks, now I’m craving boba!
I'm planning to finish city of bones and read city of ashes and city of glass :)
your hair, eyes, and skin tone give me alec lightwood vibes
6:48 So book slaughter is a real thing after all
Tbh your videos inspire me to read more.
The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell, Voices From Chernobyl by Svetlana Alexievich, Firebrand by Kristin Britain, and Echo North by Joanna Ruth Meyer.
Go to Bubble Tea: Lychee green tea with coconut jelly or Sour plum black tea with pearls 😁
Your humor is this video was top tier, I laughed my ass off 😂 that Tom Riddle reference was gold!
This new corner is really cute and interesting. I love how creative you are and the way you incorporate your ideas on your channel. It’s always amazing!
Jesse : "yes" I say while I put my head down in shame
Me : spoken as a true reader
LOL!🤣
"Pour your soul on to the page, just don't pull a Tom Riddle" 😆
That's a very good scene for Potterheads !
Hit like if you are a Potterhead👇👍
I am like in the middle of 100 books right now, but I will finish Tokyo Ghoul:re 9 this weekend for sure, also reading a queen in hiding, cirque du freak (one of my favorite series!) and the Well of Ascension. Also might pick up Every Heart a Doorway this Weekend.
I haven't had Bubble Tea in ages, I am not even sure where to get it anymore in my city...
that pin is adorable 😭😍
I'm a bit late to the party, oops! But I usually get strawberry boba tea with yogurt bubbles, and I've been reading Renegades by Marissa Meyer! I'm actually listening along to the audiobook for this one; it's really good!
Taro blended with black pearl is my go to.
I would be beyond stoked if you checked out the Heartstriker series by Rachel Aaron. I am trash for her world building and character. 💜
Your editing is on point!❣️
since you asked, i'm reading pet sematary and the night circus this weekend! and my go-to boba is cotton candy!
I love boba! I usually get it with thai iced tea.
I'm a book lover, who doesn't read... I do all of the things you're talking, all of the time :( The few books I've read in the past like 5 years, I didn't even finish... Not because I didn't like it, but I just sort of stopped, and then life happened :/ I'm trying to read more, so I will try and keep these things in mind. Thanks for sharing.
I plan to finish my reread of a childhood favorite "The Recruit" by Robert Muchamore and get further in "The Winner's Kiss" by Marie Rutkoski
Advice : do not look at the clock. Seriously. XD
Why is it so satisfying that this video is 11 minutes
Barista: hey Jesse, want your usual boba/bubble tea?
Jesse: yep! You know it!
Pour your soul into the page, just don't pull a Tom Riddle.
I love Boba, it's amazing!!
First like letssss goooooooo
My tip (aka cheap people tip)
Have a subscription (audible and scribe ) so that you'll want to read because you'll never want to waste the money put into it😈
I’d like to read 20 books this year (which will be a stretch for me) but considering I’m reading TDA and all of them are like 700+ pages long I am STRUGGLING
25 days into 2020 and I haven't even started a book yet lmao,
*somebody help*
Planning on reading When She Reigns and Infidel.
Sometimes if I want to get through books faster, I'll see if I can acquire the audiobooks since I'm prone to multitasking. So I can do my crafts and consume a story at the same time.
This was super fun❤ made me wanna have a boba... Sadly no Starbucks where I live..
I dont get why he was yelled at on instagram for using a plastic straw when probably most of the people yelling at him about the straw use plastic straws anyway
It's funny cause I'm procrastinating reading by watching this video considering the title is called "how to read more books"
Your editing is like dogs running after squirrels. I love it. 😹😹
it's literally a peak into my mind xD
Personally, I looove Boba Tea but I hate the pearls at the bottom. I never liked the texture of them. But if you have the option try it with coconut jelly, I swear you won't regret it (unless you hate or are allergic to coconuts)
I plan to continue reading a darker shade of magic this weekend
