    I have to say that this is the best detailing channel out there... Certainly some may disagree but Brian is so honest and straightforward when reviewing products.
    The demonstrations are top notch. I for one truly value his opinion... I've been detailing for approximately 25yrs and I always learn something new from Brian..

    I’ve gotten the best gloss results from Sonax PF by using a slower pass 3.5-4 speed initially and finishing with a higher pass 5.5-6 speed to take advantage of the two stages of that product. Amazing gloss with that approach.

    I feel it is safe to say that Brian (Bryan?) Is what is known as a legit professional. In this day & age with social media etc. Everyone is a professional ( just ask them, they'll usually tell you) The honesty, transparency & above all else knowledge + skill demonstrated on this channel, are second to none. There are some great detail channels w/excellent, talented people, no question. This channel checks off each and every box imo. A legitimate focus on truth + educating! Not on selling products

    My go to for "ultra finishing" is AAT502.
    I've had great success finishing out with ONE, and ACA520 as well, but 502 is excellent on the softest paint without any issues that I've come across.
    Honorable mentions go to:
    Meguiar's Ultimate Polish
    Jescar Micro Polish
    Optimum Hyper Compound
    If I had to choose one, AAT502.

    • @orthodox1717
      @orthodox1717 Рік тому

      Thanks for the feedback. Do you like anything else better than 3D ONE for a 1-step polish? Generally speaking.

    • @danlc95
      @danlc95 8 місяців тому

      @orthodox1717 - Not necessarily "better" but Menzerna 2500, and Jescar Medium Polish are both very strong candidates.
      Jescar can cut more, but the Menzerna finishes on a very wide variety of paints. I've never had the Menzerna not finish out.
      Meguiar's M205, M210, and Ultimate Polishes are also very strong competitors. These are different from the Menzerna and Jescar in that the abrasives do not break down, which means they can continue cutting indefinitely. Like the Menzerna 2500, the Meguiar's Ultimate Polish finishes out consistently. I've never had it not finish out. The difference is tha6 these are dedicated finishing polishes, and they SHOULD finish out!
      What I like about 3D ONE, I also like about Optimum Hyper Polish, and that is they don't stain trim. Hyper Polish also delivers a stunning finish.

    Been using a lot of 3D compounds and foam cannon wash now for awhile. Not to crazy about their pads as durability is not that great with them. But there 500 and 510 cutting compound and 502 and 520 polished have given me excellent results with chemical guys hexlogic pads. Chemical guys sure make some great long lasting pads for not being to great at making compound through my experience

    • @danlc95

    Excellent video.Brian. These products are all excellent. My curiosity is peaked.....can someone really tell the difference between 0.1.- 0.5 gloss units? Also, is it fair to say, an average customer regardless the type of vehicle they own will be able to tell the difference of 1.0-2.0 gloss units?
    Again, these are all tremendous finishing polishes. I really appreciated this comparison.

    • @yanniobkirk5744

      Humans cannot perceive less than 2 gloss units of difference.

    • @seabrew1
      @seabrew1 3 роки тому +1

      Apparently you need around 5 units to see the difference. That's what I read anyhow. So all these polishes will look the same. Comes down to user experience IMO.

    • @yanniobkirk5744
      @yanniobkirk5744 3 роки тому

      There is also difference in 20* vs 60* measurements.
      Once you get into the 90s (or perhaps even lower) on 60* measurements you should switch 20* when measuring glossy surfaces.

    Yeah the thin soft clear coats is why I’m here. I’m trying to find the finest mildest yet consistently effective product out there. I polished it once 3.5 years ago before applying a ceramic coating. I’m almost due to recoat the ceramic/graphene. I’m looking for a very fine polish to remove minimal imperfections with removing as little clear coat as possible. Really no scratches or swirls that I can see, just want to give it a once over. Appreciate any suggestions.

    Some toughts:
    1. Koch Chemie is not a necomer, it just has recently been introduced in the US by the Rag Company.
    2. Not all fillers / polishing residue can be removed by all pabel wipes. So it could be that some of those fillers are resistant to Gyeon Prep and therefore the results could be biased, especially if we only talk about a few gloss units if difference.
    3. It would be fair to mention that the differences you measured are not visible by the naked eye.

    • @apexdetail85
      @apexdetail85  3 роки тому +3

      Its a new comer here...Thats all that matters to this channel. Gyeon prep is as far as we will go when it comes to panel prep. We refuse to use solvents as we know what it does to clear coat. It should be common sense and not need mentioning that results are subjective. And your last point has been mentioned numerous times on the channel on how many units it takes to be picked up by the human eye.

    Not a finish polish question.... Actually a topper question. You've raved over Extreme Solutions Topper and also over Waxedshine Aquabead. Any thoughts on which when used as a topper would give better gloss, and which would give better protection longevity? I'm still using some old school products such as PNS , FK1000P , and lately Griot's Ceramic 3 in 1, but want a topper that will give additional gloss.

    • @snail415

      One of the best ‘topper’ products I’ve found is so easy to find. You just won’t believe it’s readily available. Meguiars hybrid ceramic wax.
      No joke, don’t regard it like some primary form of protection, but as a topper. Apply it after every few washes, assuming your paint is still clean.
      On a ceramic coated car, it absolutely amplifies the finish. It darkens dark paint and adds a lot of reflection within seconds. It’s super cheap, doesn’t leave a chalky residue, and doesn’t have to be instantly wiped-off.
      I’m not a fanboy. I just tried it and began looking at the product differently. And if that approach doesn’t suit you, just up your application rate on that 3-in-1. I do that on other vehicles too, and it’s a great spray to have handy.
      Some of the products marketed as annual-protection are really just badass toppers. Cheers.

      I'm late to the party but Topper should be named Depth in a bottle. The slickness doesn't last long but the depth and gloss remains for a while. Titan is also very good. I'm experimenting with Cerakote rapid ceramic spray as a topper on the hood. It's the most hydrophobic spray I've used under $50 and it cost $16 at Walmart. It wiped on and off effortlessly even in the sun on a hot panel. 3 coats is the trick.

    How do you determine a finishing polish vs a one-step polish ?
    I understand a finishing polish (reviewed in this video) are used in a 2 step process - then why is a cutting&polishing compound like SONAX PF used as it is a disintegrating polish where it compounds/cuts first, then finishes as a polish?

    • @snail415
      @snail415 3 роки тому +2

      My simple answer is to look at the grit level equivalent that the product says it can resolve up-to or down-to. One-steps vs AIOs differ to me in that the latter offers some protection, whereas the former tackles a range of paint issues.
      Products like 3D One can confuse some; it isn’t ‘automatically’ a one-step because it is pad-dependent. You determine the number of steps based upon the condition of the panel involved.
      If you’re looking at a polish that breaks-down as it’s used…and also has some built-in protection, it’s marketed as an AIO.
      I prefer if possible to really divide products by purpose so that your workflow is consistent and the product is maximized to a narrow purpose. Xtreme Solutions Knockout can blow-away 1,000-grit scratches without issue…but you better believe I’ll finish the task with a dedicated polish.

      @@snail415 right now, I have no AIO in my arsenal as I’m taking the time to provide 1-step (3D One) or 2-step corrections (Griots Fast Correcting Cream + Sonax PF) to friends and family to dedicate the hours toward improvement in this specific craft. What started out as a hobby/enthusiast thing that I do for myself is slowly transitioning into something I could do as a side job! The passion is there.
      Thank you for your detailed response Justin. Consistent work-flow should be my focus when looking at these products, and I should definitely be organizing them to be purpose based for client scenarios.

      The Sonax PF isn't that great of a cutter, which is why most people use it as a finishing polish. I believe it also contains some non diminishing abrasives too.
      For me, a finishing polish with a stronger pad, or a medium polish on a polishing pad can fall into the "one step" category.
      Anything with protection, I've gone back to calling them a "cleaner wax". 3D Speed, Meguiar's 3 in 1, Uno Protect, etc. There is too much confusion around the term "one step" between a polish and something with protection.
      But for your first question:
      I'll use Rupes Keramik Fine polish as an example.
      Back when I was using their line heavily I used Keramik on their original yellow microfiber pads in a "one step" situation. The pads provided a boost in cut, but also finished really well. I could have all used that for a cutting step on softer paints, and finish with the same polish - Keramik, on Rupes yellow foam to finish. However they also had their Quarz Medium that worked great on the green pads they were intended to be paired with, but Quarz also worked great with the yellow foam for even better finishing.
      These days I use 3D ONE for almost everything. It cuts great with Uro-Fiber pads. I'll do one steps with it on yellow Buff and Shine or orange HDO pads, but I can also finish with it on those same foam pads but with less passes, and higher arm speed. It's definitely my most versatile polish.
      In the instances I need more cut I switch to 3D ACA500 on the Uro-Fiber. I also keep AAT502 around for super finishing, but rarely ever need it.
