    I like that little floating tray you have with your corallimorphs, some sort of floating ring with a plastic pasta strainer zip tied to it?

      Mike B hi,
      That’s exactly right. It’s a plastic colander from a kitchen store with foam strapped underneath with zip ties to help it float. We bleach them regularly if they get algaefied 😊

    What a lovely tutorial, but also coral species. I've never seen those in my LFS', but I'll certainly keep an eye out. Are they difficult to keep? I imagine they might be like birdsnest in terms of demands? :)

    • @GalleryAquaticaTV
      @GalleryAquaticaTV  4 роки тому

      TattooedDancer91 I don’t find them to be too demanding. They do appreciate full access to light and flow. Though the rarer one - Hero coral - we find is ok in lower light .
      Also they all appreciate manual feeding

    What are the deciding factors for how much of the corals to frag? And how much to leave on the original corals?

    • @GalleryAquaticaTV
      @GalleryAquaticaTV  5 років тому +1

      Dallas Storm it varies each time, but we typically take small pieces here and there to maximise the aquacultured growth of the mother colony.
      Depends a little on the purpose of the fragging. Sometimes fragging is to rescue a piece, of remove a boring pest. Sometimes it’s simply to share the genetics with certifications number of reefers on a waiting list. We still receive wild collected corals each week but some of the rarest and most special pieces have only come up once; those are the best ones to grow out to propagate and share.

    I’ve been wanting to ask about those acros in the beginning of the video. They look so similar to the Green Slimer acro. Is it the same acro with a different name due to the geographical location? Thanks and sorry if you’ve answered this question before on your comments.

    • @GalleryAquaticaTV
      @GalleryAquaticaTV  5 років тому

      Mike Cizzle Reef Tanks it does look like the Bali green Slimer. But American reefers in the know who have visited us here in Australia have each said it’s different! We aren’t allowed to have corals from overseas so I’ve never seen one to compare. It has been genetically tested here over the years and no actual one extant Acropora species has actually been confirmed!
      If you check out the Dallas frag files video I explain the story of the strain here and why it’s called Dallas.

    What are you dosing in your frag systems? Awesome facility!

    • @GalleryAquaticaTV
      @GalleryAquaticaTV  5 років тому

      Brian Finch thank you! We use a bit of a range for foundation dosing - Continuum, Seachem and Red Sea; not every system has dosing pumps hooked up so we still have to manually dose and monitor the parameters regularly.
      We use Coral Essentials Trace A, B and C according to Ca and KH consumption and their Concentrated Amino and Gro (Vitamin) formulas daily. We try to always maintain Magnesium at 3.1-3.4 ratio to Calcium. And high Potassium 420-450 ppm.

    • @GalleryAquaticaTV
      @GalleryAquaticaTV  4 роки тому +1

      Crypto Corals Gday Toby! If you are Toby my dog loving friend - I Miss you! Since having our son so close to the conference dates I had to accept MACNA in Florida would sadly have to be missed by me and enjoyed vicariously through social media avenues. I really hope to travel to US again soon. An achievement which I want to believe is not impossible.
      The rock plugs are made here in Australia, by a business called Reef Aqua. Happy to send you some or maybe even there is a way I can get them flown over with a friend the next time I know they are heading to US. I found it fairly amusing that the frag plugs we bought from MACNA were consistently flagged as suspicious along the entire way we travelled home from Vegas 😆

    Which video has the follow up on the turbinaria? Thanks

    • @GalleryAquaticaTV
      @GalleryAquaticaTV  4 роки тому +1

      Dallas Storm Hi, and thanks so much for asking. We had to raid the Turbin frags as they were highly in demand to sell in store. Faster than we could get them filmed first with Adam. Our apologies. One of the heronensis just needing re-gluing as it might have been bumped etc but otherwise you’re going to just have to believe me that they turned out to be very successful. There are still a few of the less attractive ones in grow out but I would think filming them now would definitely make for some fairly average content.

      TattooedDancer91 hi! Thanks for the great question! I would certainly recommend to try the sideways sausages! I hope you can help I bought a nice 2" bright green turbinaria heronensisdrag frag brought it home dipped and drip acclimatized. When I put it in the display it wasn't as bright but still nice but the next day it lost its color and turned a brownish. Is it dying? I did a ICP test and everything is fine

    • @GalleryAquaticaTV
      @GalleryAquaticaTV  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, thanks for the great question. If ICP results and general molecular water chemistry is definitely in check ie KH, NO3, PO4... the main reasons coral could turn brown is inappropriate nutrition, lighting or even flow. Given it was so fast ie. one day later it is likely to be from a shock change in light and or another parameter not testable via ICP such as pH, salinity or temperature.

      @@GalleryAquaticaTV Thanks for the reply. So does that mean it's dead ? Can it still come back ? I can still see some faint green under blue lights or is that still the remaining flesh and is it ok to just leave it in there ? Sorry for all the questions but there isn't much information about this that I can find
