I also liked the kid faces. I take it as he's showing himself as a "fat" kid to support Illy and as comedic relief for the pretty heavy content of the video. It's also very humanizing and endearing to see a creator online show being a small and goofy little kid enjoying his life (which, helps the parasocial relationship lol but OH WELL!).

as someone who has/had anorexia hearing “food is food” “eat whatever you want unless ‘heath problems’” helps so much. i struggle with the idea that there are good vs bad food. i believed that eating meat was bad and i didn’t let myself eat fruit because of the sugar. she was not enabling obesity, she was saying people shouldn’t be being scared of food. food shouldn’t be a thing to fear
I relate. I don't know if I have an ED but I definitely have general eating problems because of my autism. I forget to eat constantly because I struggle recognizing hunger. Because of this, I kind of have to snack throughout the day so I dont accidentally starve myself to the point of having no energy, especially because my sleep schedule doesn't allow a simple breakfast, lunch and dinner- and I used to get really insecure that I was "overeating junk food" when it was literally the opposite, I wasn't eating ENOUGH and especially for my age.
It was helpful for me to hear too as someone with arfid. Too often I get complaints from my family about me eating junk food when I can't manage a healthier diet, and it makes eating become filled with guilt over what I "SHOULD" be eating instead. Hearing that it's okay to just be eating was refreshing.
I mean, it's better to eat something than nothing at all, and if that something is a bag of chips then who gives a shit, I have something in my body.

Yeah no she said stuff that is diametrically opposed to what most dietitians say. No dietitian worth their salt unless restricted by government regulation states "Food is just food" when referring to sweets and candies, because realistically speaking unless you have a health condition with low blood sugar even small quantities of it is considered unhealthy across the board. Heck my own doctor disagreed when presented with this statement. Morally food is also not equal - this is literally argued by dietitians who support next to any climate initiative; as they run about doing breakdowns on water consumption and sustainability - specifically stating that participating in consumptions of certain foods is morally wrong and even hypocritical when it comes to seeking liberal resolutions to the climate crisis, and that we must change our individual level of comfort to bring about change.

As a dietetics grad student man this shit really hurts me to my core so many stupid people out there misrepresenting nutritional information. Intuitive eating is very helpful for a lot of people and based of TBYS and other’s reaction they could really benefit from a chill pill and relax on their mentality around food
I second this as someone who is a bodybuilder. Diet culture is a problem that exists, and a lot of these reaction channels refuse to acknowledge it.
Intuative eating is good for underweight people but terrible for obese people since it's how they got obese to begin with and considering how there are more people that are fat than underweight especially in America - Overweight (72%) Underweight (1.6%) and Europe - Overweight (52%) Underweight (14%). I Think saying "Intuitive eating is very helpful for a lot of people" is bad phrasing. While i think intuative eating is good for a small amount of people saying "A lot" is kinda miss representing and may give people the wrong idea seeing as you are a dietetics grad student since you could be seen as a reliable source and overweight people and people who don't need to may start to intuative eat, Im sure you get my point. However as to "Diet culture is a problem that exists, and a lot of these reaction channels refuse to acknowledge it." i can agree to a degree.
I completely understand your point but I believe you’re misunderstanding mine. I wasn’t saying intuitive eating will help obese people lose weight I was saying that a lot of the ideas around food (because of diet culture) are that it’s either a good or bad food. Intuitive eating doesn’t have a lot of literature showing that it alone can’t help people with obesity lose weight but it has been shown to help people lose weight and keep it off as well as gain healthier eating habits when combined with other weight loss behaviors such as calorie restriction. Aside from that, again my point was that intuitive eating can help “a lot” of people because its main point is that food isn’t good or bad it’s just food and how much you take in is the good or bad behavior. Changing the outlook on food reduces stress and anxiety around eating especially in eating disorders and disordered eating behaviors. According to ANAD, 9% (28.8m) of Americans will experience disordered eating at some point in their life which I would say is “a lot of people”. So again, sorry for any confusion but I wasn’t arguing that intuitive eating alone will help you lose weight rather people need to take a chill pill around food and stop viewing foods as good or bad rather their eating behaviors around certain foods need to change.

Why so in denial? There are people like Lizzo, Tessa Rothwell, and others in the "fat pride" movement who purvey the idea that people are "healthy and attractive at every size" and that thin people have unwarranted societal privelege; if this isn't promoting obesity it's sure as hell still condoning it. People should be actively discouraged through all cultural mechanisms from eating themselves to death.

existentialism may give us some insight into this. eating unhealthy foods sets a bad example for others, who may be indirectly encouraged to eat those same unhealthy foods. these people may have underlying health conditions or may develop an addiction which causes detriment to their physical health. thus, by eating unhealthily you are indirectly causing detriment to others' physical health- sounds morally bad to me.

i used to have a similar line of thought, but the more i've lived to see (by aging past 15 years of age), the more i've learnt that bad people are going to do bad things regardless of legality, or sensibility or morality. sometimes bad people just don't get caught, and sometimes they even make or enforce laws.
Yup. The people that think this sort of way often seem to think that a nation's laws are also laws of reality, when they aren't.
Laws in the legal sense aren't actually real like gravity or friction are. They're social constructs that only exist in our minds, as a result their meanings and effects change depending on what lawyer or judge is reading them and what their interpretation of it is. A law against something doesn't make that thing impossible, it merely deters some people from engaging with the banned thing, makes most of the people that will do it anyway be more subtle, and allows a clear framework for punishment in case the banned thing is used/committed/etc.

Apparently, he edited out some of the things she said, such as "dietary restrictions and life-threatening allergies" on 14:07 on her own video. In his own video, it mentions nothing about that particular statement. Hell, I even noticed that he hardly brings up any good counterpoints.

I'm a 30+ year old Jewish media creator with aspergers syndrome who is a jack of all trades with a passion for fighting against cyberbullying. I've been doing these kinds of things for over 10 years and I've picked up a whole set of different skills along the way..
As a black person who grew up around my uncles and other politically aware people in my MAJORITY BLACK area. It is genuinely sad to see how these people have absolutely destroyed what the word "Woke" means. Woke means and always has meant to be aware of social injustices towards minority and oppressed people, specifically black people. To keep framing "woke" as a bad thing is by definition saying "I don't like minorities, especially black people and their issues either don't exist or they should just stop talking about it". But they can't say that because that's obviously RACIST. So instead they've completely butchered the phrase.
As time goes on the meaning of words change. That's just how it is. As someone who isn't American the first thing that comes to mind when I hear woke is blue hair and performative activism.

Looking at Ilymations' tumblr to see what she actually said about TBYS, figuring out what impact her followers' reports would've had, hearing what both sides had concluded in this situation, finding the 2nd possible source she cited other than the one TBYS showed, and everything else in this video are all evidence that Noah is intelligent regardless of his ability to speak

Thats a very comon thing in the commentary comunity unfortunately people there generally dont do much research into the topics they're talking about and almost always go with the side that gives them more views, like, remember the whole harrassment campaign against jellybean, a few years back where a bunch of lowlife lossers were attacking a minor (doxxing included) because of her content simply being for KIDS, pretty much the same thing. Rinse and repeat, and you end up not losing wheight because of binging. Now, what if, in that first day where you craved a sweet, you went and ate a cookie? Its not a terrible thing, is it? Its 'unhealthy', but its a single cookie. Its not going to make you immeadiately obese and die or something. And it gets rid of the craving.
If instead of holding off because of fear of being fat and a bad person, you just eat that small portion you want, youre not going to go overboard later. Youre not going to go and binge. Eating disorders are caused by people assigning moral weight to different foods and feeling guilty/emotional while eating. People without eating disorders don't understand that the shame people feel around eating unhealthy foods is literally what CAUSES them to binge. She is literally giving the best advice to combat an eating disorder, and he is saying that eating disordered people should feel shame, which will only cause them to spiral further and become more unhealthy.

What’s so insane is that her advice about not giving moral or “good/bad” values to food is literally the #1 most scientifically backed and useful/effective advice to give people for weightloss. I’m currently being certified as a nutritionist and personal trainer and I can not stress enough how much supporting evidence can be cited on how important what Illy said is to allowing people to remove the mental fatigue and addiction behavior that prevents them from losing weight. She is saving lives by being approachable and vulnerable with her delivery (which is also the best way to teach people these new habits) of vital information

This absolute joke of a human started flooding my youtube feed a few months ago.
Illy's point about "eat what you want" is also absolutely valid, and literally every response to it is just a strawman about how she's saying Chocolate and Broccoli are nutritionally identical.
The reality, what a nutritionist will tell you, is that in the right quantities, basically all foods have a place in a healthy diet.
I'm obese, not terribly so, but I've been ~70lbs heavier than I should be for the past few years. Many times I tried restricting my diet to traditionally 'healthy' foods, and cutting out all 'bad' foods completely. It was miserable, I craved certain 'bad' foods, and soon gave up, every single time.
I tried a different approach this year. I just decided to eat whatever I want, and just restrict my calories.
I've lost 20lbs in a few months. I eat chocolate and other 'bad' foods most days, I just don't eat too much of them.
This works. This is how I know I will reach a healthy weight by the end of 2024, and keep it off for good.
Chocolate isn't inherently bad for you and doesn't make you fat if you don't eat too much of it.
Some of the healthiest people alive eat chocolate sometimes. They're just as healthy as the ones that don't eat chocolate.

most of my life i was what’s considered a pretty normal weight, maybe a little thick for my height (5’7 and in the range of 150-155lbs) and i was also very athletic! i spent summers working on farms and doing organized sports (horseback) so i was in really good shape. then i moved and wasn’t able to do that anymore, and developed a severe eating disorder. i went from ~155lbs to ~115lbs in just a few months, i was visibly unhealthy, it was *bad.* interestingly enough, i got way more “concern” about my health and body when i was a normal weight than when i was literally skin and bone and looked like death.
for the record i’ve been in recovery for ~5 years now! i’m still struggling with letting myself eat what i want and gain weight, and i’m definitely still underweight, but i’m making progress.
Illy is one of the most underserving creators of harassment ever. In the few years of her being on this platform, you can just see her build up a nice and cozy life after being in abusive relationships, difficult situations, ect.

This fat acceptance is what ALLOWED me to lose weight and live a healthier life style. When I was scared of food, I would go on the extreme, losing a ton of weight and then.. immediately gaining it back. When I wasn't afraid of food, I would eat that Mac and cheese, have a cookie, or do something that gave me the motivation to continue eating healthier.

I swear these people have never read a book a single day in their lives because all of the psychology on any sort of personal change says the exact same thing. Shame doesn't freaking work. The only thing that works is accepting the situation for what it is at any given point in time before real lasting change can be made. Meaning, if you are overweight, you have to accept that about your body and not feel shame around it before any real lasting change can be made. There are literally hundreds of studies that have been done on this not just relating to weight loss but also with drugs, gambling, etc. Shame. Does. Not. Work.

as an eating disorder survivor this is so infuriating to me. like yes, eating too much can be dangerous, but a much more real and present danger for kids in the situation illy is talking about is anorexia/bulimia/other eating disorders. the overwhelming message that fat kids get from society is that they are inherently bad and should be ashamed of their weight, and one woman saying “hey it doesnt make u a better person if u eat a carrot over a cookie” is not going to kill anyone, in fact it might be one of the only positive message these kids receive about themselves!!

The amount of times I've seen or heard a normal weight person call themselves fat or be scared to eat because 'it'll make them less desirable or less of a human being' is not zero. Greetings, psychologist here. Works from 2004 are not innately outdated. Obviously, it is better to look for more recent papers, but not every topic needs to be frequently updated.
Agreed. 20-year-old papers still have valuable insight and information and can be used as a reference in an updated work.
If the methodology is good, the paper is good.
Not just in psychology. In science in general it's common to work with knowledge far more old, just look at the classic physics theory is taught everywhere.
