One thing that the first girl said struck me as very hypocritical as she literally proved herself wrong. She says how nice it is to finally see straight "normal" representation. By saying that she literally acknowledges how much it sucks to not be represented, which is something that the lgtb or people with disability never had until now.

I think it's a lot of isolation bias. Cis, straight, same race are the overwhelming majority of people and relationships in this country/planet. I'm relatively certainly the vast majority of people can say they don't know a trans person and know very few people or relationships that deviate from cis/straight/same race and there's nothing wrong with being honest about that. It's just a demographics reality. Now for some of those people who can say the above, if they see at least one person/relationship that isn't cis/straight/same race (Even though it's only 1) in every show they watch, in a lot of commercials they see, and in a lot of the movies they watch, well, some of them go down a rabbit hole. "They" are trying to replace us and so forth.

Woke has been around for longer than 2010. It may have gain prominence during the rise of the BLM movement but it's something that's been around all my life as a black person. So it's doubly twisted that this phrase has been coopted by the right to mean "that thing I don't like".

I thought Bill's wife was one of the reasons Bill didn't fall into the right, and he had pretty good takes in a lot of recent clips, including one where he made fun of comedians for making lazy content about cancel culture. So now to see him be one of those cancel culture whining comedians seems like a step backwards. He had no punchline, and the audience was dead, and it seemed like he expected applause over laughter, embarrassing stuff.

it's literally the most miserable existence. not that i was saved from the pipeline by this, but an early experience i had that alienated me from the right wing was watching paul joseph watson. at first, it was mildly entertaining to watch an angry shouty man, but after a while it became exhausting for me. as a 16 year old at the time, i just did not have nearly enough hatred in my heart to keep up, i just started thinking to myself "this guy so angry that it's making me feel stressed out" so i stopped watching and never turned back

They've also called it the atomic family because they see it like the atom of society. Another word for it would be like 'elementary family' but it's much less commonly used. Could've used 'immediate family' but that has a less positive connotation and makes people reflect on whether grandparents are feeling isolated or living in a nursing facility because of this set up. it comes from the latin of nut, kernel, or inner part or seed. there's also something called an astronaut family where family members live in different countries.

I want to point out that no one knows whether or not anyone in the cartoon ad was trans, a nuclear family, etc. It could be three siblings, a single mom with her daughter and friend/brother/cousin, single father with his kid and a friend, etc. Judging that much off of appearances will set you up for the okey doke.

As a trans teenager its so upsetting and triggering to go on the internet and see people posting these things hating on my community and other trans/gender non-conforming people that I look up to. Then seeing comment sections full of people happily supporting the oppression of millions and yet for some reason they always manage to make it seem like theyre the ones being attacked. I've never understood why my existence as a trans person could possibly threaten anyone and I really hope that things change so there can be a generation of trans kids in the future that don't have to experience this since its so damaging and dehumanizing.

I’m so proud of and so grateful for ~*the youth*~ nowadays. I used to work with a lot of kids daily, like babies thru high school, and I can’t tell you how FREAKIN AMAZING y’all are. just the kindest, most accepting, understanding, helpful, cool kids I’ve ever met (emphasis on *cool* - it made me SO happy to see kids actually expressing themselves and doing cool stuff with fashion, style, their hobbies, their personalities, more than I ever saw or was able to do as a kid 10-15 years ago. The simple courage and creativity I saw daily at work made me wanna CRY, being yourself is such a good and beautiful thing).
I think each generation is better than the last and I hope that shows up in your life in real ways too. I have faith in people to keep fighting and making things better, safer, and more accepting.
You shouldn’t have to be a part of “the fight” yet, and I’m sorry you have to see so much of the horrible hate that is so prevalent. But I think you can 100% bet on things continuing to get better. No way in hell bigots are winning this fight, they don’t have the strength, heart, or purpose for it.

In defense of Bill Burr (not saying that he said nothing problematic in those jokes or others), that was not a stand-up special or a stand-up performance, that was a live podcast that he does every once in a while, there's probably 25-30 people in the crowd, so even if they were all laughing it wouldn't be very loud. Also during stand-up specials the audience is mic'd up to catch the laughter but this wasn't. Also, Bill Burr is actually pretty progressive as far as comedians go and he's an ardent supporter of BLM/Vaccines/Environmentalism/Abortion access and more. The problem with Bill is that he's a huge sh*t talker, he takes shots at everyone and every side, you should hear what he says about conservatives, his comedy is all about pointing out what he feels are inconsistancies in ideologies or peoples line of thinking. I don't think that he did a good job of that in this clip, but it wasn't scripted, he didn't prepare what he was going to say, so it makes sense that it wouldn't be nearly as polished and funny as usual. That all being said, he has said things on many clips that I've seen that do annoy me, but I feel like in comparison to most huge "Rogansphere" comics he's by far one of the most progressive.

They're basically saying, 'don't force accountability on me for not respecting human's rights just because those people make me uncomfortable.' There're things I don't like about a lot of people, but that's totally my problem and it's irrelevant to their rights. In any case, there's more to those people than whatever rubs me the wrong way. I can focus on that rather than my feewings.
It's easier to be 'right' than to love people, respect their rights as human beings and take accountability for that. Even if it is unpleasant to have that 'forced' on you/expected of you, or to be reproached, not liking their choices or presentation is your problem. They have a right to exist as they are, to be.

For most people, not only does it make no sense under scrutiny, but it isn't something that should be normalized or promoted just because people "feel good." I knew this guy once who used to watch videos of people falling off buildings, getting hit by cars, etc., people REALLY getting hurt, and laugh his ass off. The first time he sent me one of these videos, I was absolutely horrified, and told him so. He was confused, and told me that this was a perfectly legit comedy genre in Brazil, and I've since heard the same from other people. He told me I had no sense of humor. Because I didn't laugh at the guy who fell 30' from a commercial crane and presumably died.
The "anti-woke" comedians are the same. They say something that the vast majority of people find cruel, horrifying, and not funny at all, and then when people don't laugh, they get pissy. "It's just a joke! You're so woke, you can't even laugh any more!" It's not us dude, it's YOU. If people aren't laughing, it's because you're not funny.
My sister's second husband (after divorcing her first, abusive husband) used to send me these videos until I pointed out to him that the accounts posting the videos always seemed to only show videos of minorities getting injured, and if you look at their other posts, they often have outright racist messages. The primary difference, I think, is that *now* these videos are presented with a disdain of those getting injured. "Fuck around and find out", "thug gets owned" "Stupid criminal gets what they deserve" etc. fostering instead of a light chuckle at physical comedy, but instead a reframing of "you should enjoy violence against the other". And it's that maliciousness that betrays this isn't comedy: it's vicarious release and reinforcement of hatred.

Not to proselytize to you because I really don't believe in doing that, but, personally the reason I went back to church (a church that is pro-queer, pro-trans, pro-immigration, anti-racist, I guess a "woke" church) when I was in my 20's after having become an atheist at 13 and investigating other religions in the interim, is that I was very inspired by the New Testament stories about Jesus because it paints picture of someone who is very "woke." Like one of my favorite stories is that of the Good Samaritan, where Jesus actually is prejudiced against this woman because she's from a different place, and she kind of chews him out a little bit for it and he realizes he's being an asshole and he decides to change his mind and do better. The Bible can definitely be a force for destruction when it's used by one ideologue pastor on a congregation of people too afraid or too tired to think for themselves, but when you already practice critical thinking and you go into it ready to interpret it yourself (and wrestle with and maybe even reject some parts of it for a time or forever), there's some good stuff in there, as there is within the faith texts of like, every religion (except maybe like, Scientology).
