I’m OG Honda and really love the early-80’s to 1990 products and had a 1990 Civic EX, 5-spd. It was my favorite car I’ve owned and sure miss those days of lightweight, tactile, efficient, and affordable cars.

Ef that. I dont think there is a wrong answer. I just think if you wanted a slick top you have your option... Type R. some people like the open air feeling and would make use of it on the street... which is where the Type S belongs (as opposed to the Type R)
I consider myself a real enthusiast, and I love my s2000 and prelude with a sunroof.
To me the Type S should have been a 'modern GSR' - which had a sunroof. unlike the Type R, that didn't.

Subbed and waiting for more. Thanks for the in-depth comparison including compromises. I was not aware of the length difference between the two cars. While I chose the Integra Type S and prefer the mature look, I am SO glad Honda finally decided to release the CTR platform in North America.

Great video, Jonathan! These are two incredible gems in the segment. I can’t get enough of the front design of the ITS. It looks amazing. The FL5 is truly a special car as well. I’d drive the FL5 on the weekends and the ITS Mon-Fri. 😎

I was CRUSHED that the ITS didn't get a sunroof. If it had CTR seats and a sunroof, I would have paid anything.

You need to understand that the ITS is a nicer CTR, isn’t a faster Integra ASPEC.
You can’t have same CTR body ridigity or low center of gravity with a sunroof.

Only nice in the showroom but out and about the sunroof delete is perfectly fine and preferred for what the car is

Thanks for the walk around for both of these great cars. It took a special car for me to take the plunge, and the ITS did it! I have a PWP, and it always make me feel special that I get to drive such a dynamic car. Kudos to the Acura for doing a fantastic job on this car!

Great video Jonathan! Just about to switch from my ‘17 FK8 to an FL5 when it comes in the spring. I’ve driven the ITS and it’s awesome, definitely sounds way better than my FK8! The ITS is a fantastic package great work to the Acura team. I just can’t give up those Type R seats after being used to them in the FK8, ITS seats reminded me of my RDX A-spec seats which is great for daily but for a weekend toy I love the extra bolsters. If it was a daily though I’d go ITS for sure! I have a feeling I’ll be changing to the ITS ADS module on my FL5, the ITS ride reminded me a lot of my FK8 suspension which I find is perfect so I’m really glad the ITS exists so there is an option to easily fix the FL5 ride for those that find it rides too bouncy. Keep the videos coming!

Congrats on the new channel, Jonathan. Big fan of the Integra Type S, especially the Tiger Eye Pearl color but… what’s preventing me from pulling the trigger is the lack of the HVAC vents for the rear passengers AND no heated/electric seats for the front passenger seat. Yeah, I care about my companions. However, it doesn’t take away from the incredible driving experience
Thanks a lot for the feedback and support! There’s a strong aftermarket community out there for ITS. Within that, you can find that there’s a kit to add the rear vents if you really need them. As for the passenger seat, it is heated, but not powered. As an owner myself, it’s not a dealbreaker for me, but I definitely respect your opinion. Hope you come back for more content!
Great video. We already have a PWP MDX Type S and as soon as I saw the ITS it was a no brainer. Gave the MDX to the hubby and I drive the PRP ITS and I LOVE it!!! Clowning for a PMC edition.

My dealer says there are under seat ducts in the ITS for rear HVAC. Can you confirm this?
Thanks for the comment! Yes, there are “ducts” underneath the front seats, but no rear vents or climate adjustment.
FL5 looks a lot nicer

I thought the same for 9 months til I saw them side by side and got to inspect and go inside.. I’m torn. Gon buy a 2025.. I like the S but I think the R will hold value longer cuz teenagers are made yearly.. forever
@@cybergrindinI’ve seen the both side by side I own one. Still taking the Type R looks better also to me my opinion.
Just bought my Type S about a month ago. Absolutely love the car. I choose it over an F80 M3. A few things I would have loved to see.. Rear vents for the kiddos and rear armrest. Also, I would love the option for Memory seats and full leather. Otherwise, it's an excellent daily.

Thumbs up, and I agree with your choice. I've been looking at both CTR and ITS and leaning toward ITS because it's a more comfortable daily with better creature comforts: power seats, better audio, more sound dampening, HUD, softer suspension etc.

I’ll be ordering my ITS come summer time. I am in love with this car. It’s my last hold out before the EV takeover. This will be mine till I can’t find gas anymore.

@@Drive_Culture I like everything about it. I really wanted to buy a Civic Type R but I didn’t want to pay a mark up so I found this at MSRP. The only bummer about buying this car was the lower rocker panel was scratched. The dealer replaced it however, when they did so they dislodged the rear fender flare, and the two-faced tape would not adhere to the body. Now they have to replace the fender flare and I’m concerned they’ll screw something else up like chipping the paint off the bumper or damaging the body while removing the panel. Wish me luck this Tuesday. I used to own a 2019 FK8 R and a TLX Type S. I miss them both.

I don’t think the rear vents are critical as the car cools down pretty quick and my kids haven’t complained but the lack of connectivity is a kind of a bummer. Luckily someone has made a kit to add them back so if you really want them you can add them. It is still an amazing car and having owned a bunch of different performance cars over the years none of them were as engaging as the ITS is.

Gotta go with the White Type S for nostalgic reasons...my white 87 Integra RS was the first "real" car I owned. That car took us everywhere! Great review!

I currently drive a 2015 Lexus RC350, but I want to have a manual again, how is the interior build quality of a Integra Type S? My only experience with Acura was my buddies RSX Type S from years ago and I remember it feeling a bit cheap on the inside. Also being watching a few of your reviews, I hope your channel takes off!
Wow! Thanks for the comment & feedback! I don’t think the interior build quality and features will be far off your car, but it may not be as quiet. If you love driving and manuals though, the Integra Type S is hard to beat! Let us know if you pull the trigger on one! 👍🏾

Being built in Japan, I give the edge to the Civic Type R 💪
Several reviewers have mentioned hearing some squeaks coming from areas in the interior of the Integra Type S 😢
Get that together Acura and maybe I’ll consider it 🤔
Thanks for the comment & feedback! As an owner of an ITS, I can say that I don’t have any major rattles, but I only have a couple thousand miles on my car. As far as being built in Japan, that doesn’t hold as much weight as you might think. The people in Ohio do a great job & have been building Acuras there for decades.

Thanks for watching & the feedback. Yeah, it’s a small difference, but we wanted to make sure people knew.
I love both. But given the Type S' ethos there are just things that I feel like shouldn't have been missing and would have differentiated it more. Big miss on the Type S for me is a lack of the sunroof. But other small things like the rear AC vents. If its supposed to be the more civilized for the road version of a Type R, then it really needed a few more creature comforts.

Thanks for the comment & feedback! The white areas of the exterior are wrapped in a satin Paint Protection Film (PPF). The black areas are done in a clear PPF. Lastly, the roof and door handles are wrapped in a gloss black vinyl! 👍🏾
Nice video. I like the exterior styling of the Type R (minus the wing) more than the Type S. I'd get the Type S though for the heated seats and sound insulation,

@Drive_Culture I was at my local dealership here in Toronto checking it out and my goodness the Type S looks absolutely stunning in person.No lie at first when it was announced,I truly thought there's no way would it could of hold a candle against the Civic type r but after the initial revealed I was completely wrong with my predictions.👌🏼
Besides the enormous price difference between the Type R and S, the other big difference that sways me to the Type R is that it's designed to run on fuel that's actually available in California and most western states. Conversely, the Type S recommends 93 Premium (open the fuel door and check for yourself), which we don't get here. Sure, it can run on the Type R's recommended 91, but at reduced power, with reduced fuel mileage, and the occasional knocking and pinging. God, I hate California sometimes. Or maybe I hate the manufacturers for mapping this thing and the GR86/BRZ for gas that isn't even sold in their largest north American market.
Thanks for the detailed comment & feedback! I’ve driven both cars quite a bit here in California and haven’t run into any issues with 91 octane, definitely no knocking & pinging. Not just me either, I’ve talked to a few owners & journos and it just isn’t an issue. I’ll let you know if that changes during ownership.
Yeah you guys really hit a grand slam with these cars. I knew I was gonna have to have this CTR since the first test mule spy shots in May 2020.

I'm looking to buy one of these in the next year or so and I'm hoping there are some updates made like seat memory or some nice little updates. I wish somehow the Type R seats could be an option skinned slightly differently in black or something, think that would be worth the additional money it would cost but I'm not sure if Honda would allow it. I'm also glad it doesn't have a sunroof, it's a performance/sports car, I want the rigidity and weight savings. The piano black center console surround is also TERRIBLE, not sure why that decision was made.

A base civic cost more than 25k 🤷🏻♂️
It’s quite frustrating and annoying to offer memory seats (2 driver families can never get back to original position -infuriating) and power front passenger seats in the cheaper A-Spec trim and not on the Type S. In addition given the high MRSP...where is the Sunroof, Full Rear Seat (keep the bit of weight saving etc for the CTR), Rear Vents/Charge Ports, Power folding/Tilt side mirrors, Home-link rear view mirror, 360 camera etc, features found on the TLX (the prices are relatively close given the Integra Type S MRSP). For a vehicle marketed as a premium brand and its high price there should be more features included IMHO. Have to see where the extra money is going and disappointing that the vehicle looks to have been crippled and missing a lot of interior premium features despite the high price. (Benchmark the Golf R … and at a cheaper price). FK8 - 2018/ 2000 Honda Rebel owner and avid F1 Honda Fan …but nevertheless disappointed. Considering a purchase/deposit down but have to reconsider now as cant justify given the price and doesn’t wash. Acura Integra Type S Platinum Package Please with all these features. Like you said it is not the out right sports car like the Type R. Please give the Type S a sporty luxury sophistication with all these additional features will gladly take on the added weight- not lapping the car.(already in the TLX for close to the same price and some in the Integra A Spec for cheaper)

I can agree with you on everything but the sun roof. Ive never been a fan of the sun roof in cars since here in Texas they honestly just let in a bunch of heat. And they feel tacked on like another "feature" they can add to the laundry list of buzzword to try and impress you. I like that both the ITS and CTR dont have them for me thats a plus.
@@Drive_Culture Very gracious. I think Acura/You have a hit as far as dynamics!! ..probably no rival!! However give it the amenities that a premium vehicle with that badge so desperately deserves (for which there are rivals - Golf R (nor is a premium/luxury brand) ..then you will have TKO/home run Brother!!
One minute into the video you said one of them is a hatchback and the Acura is a sedan. Both are 4dr sedans and they are both hatchbacks pretty basic info on both of those I’m out…
Thanks for the feedback! I was just trying to point out that the Integra is often called a hatch, but it’s actually a lot longer than the 5-door Civic.
The New Acura Integra Type S is WAAAYYY BETTER! FL5 looks like an Egg or Mouse...the Wing doesn't even go with the car like the FK8!
