- Solo backpack hunting for Mule Deer in central Idaho during the 2023 General season. Traveling deep into the backcountry by motorcycle and on foot, I was able to find enough deer and bucks for an enjoyable hunt. Watch, enjoy, like and subscribe for more. As always, thank you for watching!

Hey Todd…. I’m still following your channel, ever since my 2020 elk hunt with you. I was stoked to see your video pop up. It was every bit of what I expect from you, tons of work and dedication to every minute of the hunt. Love to see a real adventure and you had one, with a nice Buck on top! Well done!!! Kenny
Thank you Kenny! Always appreciate your supportive and thoughtful responses. All the best to you and yours.
I absolutely would have taken that deer too. Nothing special about a generic four point but a buck carrying a saber on his head is awesome. Great video, nice to see a hunter not playing to the camera but documenting a solo hunt. I also believe stone glacier grey is the best gear for any terrain and thanks for sharing your experiences with us, video recording solo is lot of extra work.
I like the way you hunt. Great points at the end. I’ve done this sorta hard shit. It’s mostly mental.
I feel ya there! Packed an elk out 4 miles one time in Washington took 2 good days. Don't want to do it again.
Great video. As much as I enjoy hunt camp with friends a solo hunt provides a level of satisfaction that is tough to beat.
I’m trying to watch your vid with one eye and watch the World Series with the other lol. Awesome!
Luckily this video is about as fast paced as a baseball game 🐢
That’s dedication brother, great video 😁👍💪
Hell yeah man! Thanks for the new vid!
I love that you highlighted the difficulties. Yes, it sucks but it’s oh so rewarding to those that persevere through the suck. It builds you as a person in so many ways. Nice work!!
Exactly. Thank you for watching.
Thanks for sharing your hunt, at first I thought it sure seems like a ton of work to shoot a small deer, but! Its really nice to watch a video that emphasizes the experience of the hunt rather than the size of the horns packed out. Not many people in the world would do the hard work! Great video!!
Great to see another awesome hunt from ya!
The first four minutes of the video are exactly how I imagined a Missing 411 story to begin.
You have always been an extremely driven individual. Great job 👍 Be safe and best of luck always.
Great shot. Nice hunt. Remember hunting isn't hiking. Find the hiding spots and you'll find the bigger deer.
You put together some very entertaining videos, enjoy what you got going on. After a year the meats all gone the antlers are covered in cob webs and dust, but the memories are what really matter and when you have a great video to help with the memories, that's the real trophy
Thanks for that. True, it’s already been fun to go back and watch the few-year-old hunts. Wish I would have started capturing more on video sooner. Been some good ones over the years. Appreciate you watching.
True words “ be prepared and comfortable with the not being comfortable “ in some many words or at least how I took it. Sucks but that goes away. Great vid.
“Sure there are parts like this that…fuc*kin’ suck!” I went from kind of sitting here nodding in agreement to what you were saying to just laughing out loud.
Love your demeanor, humbleness, and video style. Well done! I didn’t smash the like button but I did subscribe some time ago, that should be good enough 😃
Good to hear the like button was safe beneath your hands. Thanks for watching and leaving your thoughtful comment. Much appreciated!
Inspirational. I have always said " no matter what unit you hunt, there are deer to be found. It all depends on how hard you want to work to find it"
Exactly. Put in a good effort and it’s only a matter of time and maybe a bit of luck in any unit.
This is why I so wanted Todd Harney to guide sheep hunts for me! Nice work, embracing the suck!
Hey thanks for watching Eric!
Todd, I love watching all your videos and really hope you keep producing them!
Thank you for the motivation to keep making them. I have another hunt lined up in a couple weeks for the next video.
Congrats! Looks very well earned! I admire you soloists for getting after it by yourselves! Well done!
Thank you very much! It’s more rewarding than it is easy that’s for sure.
Nice work, Congratulations! You did something special here by taking time to backpack into the backcountry and let alone Film all of it. Got my first buck this month and dream of doing a backcountry hunt like this in the near future. Thanks very much for sharing this hunt.
Congratulations on your first buck! That’s a special occasion that can’t happen twice. Hope you soaked it in.
Well said during the pack out. Nicely done.
This is definitely my type of hunting. Had a successful solo goat hunt few years ago and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The reward always outweighs the effort once you’re sitting at home after a good hunt
Yes sir! Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it.
Glad to see another Dad solo hunting out there!
Yessir! Gotta love shoehorning hunting gear between a couple of car seats.
You dont post much but when you do you come out with a BANG! Great job amigo, I am looking for some of those memories you speak on
Appreciate that. I get shy about posting “too much”.
What an amazing rifle. Quite the price tag on those rifles though lol! Great cartridge too. I'll have to settle with my Savage .270 Weather Warrior until I win the lottery. Great hunt!! Love these videos.
Looks like you got sucked into a rabbit hole on my videos last night. Thank you for watching!
@@toddharney I surely did! Keep em coming!
Fun hunt to watch
Solid video! Great shot👍🏻
Love the video!
Great content! Thanks for sharing
Congrats!
Awesome video man! Good job on getting that buck!
Another great video brother, keep them coming, they are motivating.
Thank you so much. Got another week of deer hunting planned next week so there will be another soon.
What a hunt that’s awesome
Nice work! Congrats on a great buck!
Great shot, nice buck! Congratulations!
Hell yeah, Todd
Great Adventure...
Awesome shot! Congrats
Nice shot!
Hey Todd, awesome hunt Mate. Similar to my backpack hunting style here in New Zealand…. Get up high, glass glass glass!.
Cheers for sharing 👌
Love your stuff brother! Wish everyone could make it as raw an honest as you do! Keep em comin!
Much appreciated. Raw and honest is exactly what I’m going for. Big compliment, thank you.
Awesome hunt! Great message and congrats on your mule deer success.
Your videos always rock. Great job!
Thanks for coming back. Starting on the next one this weekend.
This is hard-core! That just takes my breath away. Great accomplishment Todd. 👍
I've only done 2 trips like this by myself where I had to carry a load of venison out. I decided that I got too old for that sort of thing after that.
That's quite a rifle and cartridge you have there! Wow.
Getting too old for it scares the hell out of me, and is big motivation to stay healthy and in shape as long as I can. Thanks for watching and congrats on your own success.
Great adventure and some nice meat! love that rifle and the shermans!!
That Sherman Short is badass. 208 grains driving tacks with hardly any recoil.
Love the videos!
Great shot on that buck!
Of all the pursuits humans engage in......to me, this is the absolute high point!
I saw you on that trail me and 2 others but don't worry we didn't see anything in that canyon either.
You guys were the only other ones I rode by on that trail. That section past where you were sitting scared the hell out of me.
Hello:
No more tuna packets? Ha ha, you took all the words out of my mouth this hunt. Such a grid to comment to these hunts. In the past I kind of give up. You go we’re no one wants to and you find animals, hats off, plus solo, plus filming. I had my best hunting this year, and yes most difficult pack out in dark. When done you can’t wait to go back, challenge, see what we are made of. It hurts, but we call it fun. Great hunt thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the kind words. And congratulations on your good season! Tuna was not missed on this hunt.
Awesome stuff! 👌 😊
Enjoyed your hunt. Nice shot. Beautiful country. I’m jealous 😂. Hopefully I get to do a hunt like that before I get too old 😊
Make it happen. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Great video
Thanks for watching it so fast Keith 👍🏼
Good stuff man congrats on your buck.
Nice job!
Nice work and congrats
great video
Nice work
Great content!
I can’t wait to learn to do this stuff on my own
Get after it!
Cool hunt! I like that rifle, been thinking about getting an allterra.
Call and ask for me if you have questions about them.
Nice job Todd, congrats!
Thanks!
Good stuff
Daggone awesome video man!!!
Much appreciated, thanks for watching 👍🏼
Been patiently waiting for another hunt film, Todd - thank you!! These are awesome. I felt that "fuck" so hard when the chain came off the sprocket hahaha. Cool buck and a memorable adventure!
Thank you! Man I had some way worse moments with the bike that I didn’t get on film because it was too life-threatening. Not going to be my preferred mode of transport going forward. Appreciate you watching and commenting.
Dang nice shooting and a fine buck. Way to go! I like to shoot off my tripod on side hills, using the scope mount on mounted on the forearm of the stock. Whatever works though for each person. You might try some micro spikes on those slippery snow covered slopes, sure helps me anyway. Good hunting!
Yeah I was in an awkward position. Considered lining up left handed for the angle of the hill. I’m putting an Arca rail on my rifle this week for quick adapting to my tripod.
I have always held a semi-negative view of people motorcycling into where I hunt. That being said, I hiked up a trail into an area I have accessed from a different way. After hiking it, I thought there is no way I would or could take a motorcycle up it. As long as people stay on approved trials, good for them. Nice video.
Same here! Or maybe I was jealous that they were getting in there easier. After this hunt I don’t foresee using one very often. Legs only into places without a motorcycle trail is a solid recipe.
That poor T-Dub took a beating. How was the ride out?
Absolutely love your videos, i went on my first hunt up in idaho this season and have to say the country up there is beautiful. Out of curiosity will you say what unit you were in, if not i understand. Thanks for the great videos.
Thanks you for watching! Zero chance of saying what unit. Not only for myself but out of respect for anyone else who hunts there. It doesn’t really matter though, this hunt would have been the same or better in any of them.
Realest hunting videos out there! What tent is that? Not sure I’ve seen a freestanding Dyneema tent with a floor before, but that’s much more my speed than the trekking pole tents and floorless shelters!
Thank you! “Real” is exactly what I’m going for so that’s appreciated. The tent is a TarpTent Double Rainbow Li. I really like it, 3 full seasons strong now without issue.
You’re welcome! And that’s awesome, thank you!
You should be on a CR500 !!
@@mikethetreeguy haha! That would be hilarious.
Very unfortunate youtube hunters think they have to post what state they hunt... You don't.... Idaho used to be a great place to hunt before youtube brought a camper to every pullout.... Thanks boys, hope the clicks are worth it....
Still a great place to hunt, and everyone knew that you could hunt deer in Idaho long before UA-cam was a thing. I’d put far more blame on the online companies built on teaching people how to acquire tags step-by-step with constant reminders on deadlines, where to go, etc. An exponentially growing human population, high tag quotas, there are all kinds of reasons why more people are in the mountains. Someone saying what state they’re in on their video is pretty low on the list of reasons why. With all that said, I had Zero competition with other hunters on this hunt.
Gnarly looking tire on back of that bike
Yeah it’s an atv tire on there so tight it doesn’t need air or a tube
Love the Videos you put out! Just curious about what caliber rifle you are running? Thank you in advance!
Thank you very much - glad you like them. My rifle is an AllTerra Arms chambered in 300 Sherman Short Magnum. Shooting a 208 grain Hornady ELDM.
Congrats on your Muley Buck !
What’s the weight of the boned out meat.
nice.. Big Sur Archer does it again... consistent freezer filler....
I can’t believe that old screen name still comes up! Thanks for watching man.
You need a Rokon
i would have taken the goofy looking one just because hes interesting
Great video and hunt, did you go back for the bike?
Screw that bike! On the way out after my first stint it got so sketchy I couldn’t even think of filming it. I went back 2 weeks later and killed the buck in a different area. No motorcycle on that trip.
Great Hunt! Was that the cirque lite? If so, do you like it?
Yes, Cirque Lite. Easily my favorite and most versatile jacket / layer. Gotcha one.
Todd, awesome video as always man. What arca adapter are you using for your binos? Cheers from Montana.
That’s an Outdoorsmans adapter. Best one out there and it’s not even close.
Thanks for the response, I will have to pick one up. Happy Hunting good sir!@@toddharney
I was hoping you’d kill the stag!
Thought about it, maybe he’ll be back in there this year a little bigger.
Good job on being a MAN !
You need a horse my brother. Great video thanks for sharing
That sounds like more work than the motorcycle.
Lol 😂 it depends how your set up I think both have advantages and disadvantages
Either way love your content keep posting
@@vaquero7072 Much appreciated! Got another deer hunt in 2 weeks I'll make another video on.
If you didn't kill it the wolfs would. Soon you find no more game.
I'm serious when I say this... Thanks for NOT showing the road.
Kinda feels wrong, it's public land not your land
@@nativeoutdoors1780 he's not saying you can't go there, he's just not showing where he is.. Nothing wrong with that.
@@nativeoutdoors1780I wouldn't have shown it either. He probably worked very hard scouting that area it would really suck to go there next year and have 50 guys in there! Go find your own area rather than scalp everyone else's.
@@user-zu2bw7ig5v or even worse, imagine if I screwed up someone else’s spot by showing the road. That would extra suck for them.
🏔🦾
You need e bike they are lighter
But why couldn’t they have named them something cooler than “e-bike”. So Prius-y.
Todd I've had that color of TW definatley the ugliest.
Right? Who approved those colors?
Maybe you should scout trails before assuming you can just ride in 6 or 7 miles. Duh😂😂😂😂
I did. Mountain biked that trail in July. Didn’t assume anything.
its a F Dink
It definitely is. Smallest mule deer I’ve killed. All I’m doing here is simply sharing my hunt, not trying to act like this is some big buck or anything. Hope your UA-cam comment shit talking makes you feel good though.
🤣
Lame.
@@landonhardt7180 Thanks for watching!
Great video
