      @@darinmorino8943 Congratulations on the draw. Archery or rifle? Game numbers and quality have looked good in that area this summer, the couple of times I’ve been out there. My only regret on this hunt is that I sure would have liked to been hunting it through October to see what came through with the weather. If you have a good amount of time to hunt and not feel rushed, you should have a great time. Enjoy and best of luck!

      @toddharney  Рік тому +1

      That means a lot, especially coming from a guy named Critical Bo! I've been on enough deer hunts to know that it's only a matter of time if I just keep my effort up. No reason to second guess or get worried during a hunt. You're not the first to ask about the rifle setup, good idea. I'll see if I can get something thrown together.

    Awesome. Thanks for sharing. We need more hunters willing to do what you did and ask themselves before shooting a mule deer buck--“Do I really want to shoot this thing? Is it something I’d really be happy with walking up to it?” It’s not about inches, but holding out for a mature animal that you are happy with is so much better for the herd than only shooting to shoot one. Well done!!!

    • @toddharney
      @toddharney  Рік тому

      Thank you. I've been fortunate to bring home some quality bucks over the years, so it gets easier each season to let deer walk in search of what I'm really looking for. To each their own though. I'll pause my hunt to help someone connect on a smaller deer if it will make them happy.

    loved the video i'm heading out to idaho with a wheeler in 2 weeks, any pointers like what should I be looking for in a area that "should" hold a buck and any stratagies to how far to wheeler i should be away from a area i consider a possible good glassing spot. or can I basically drive the wheeler as close as I can to my glassing spot. first time with a wheeler and rifle, all the other year its been back pack bow and elk for a week.

    • @toddharney
      @toddharney  Рік тому +1

      Don’t spend too much time on the wheeler. Use your legs and eyes more. If you’re glassing from a spot you can drive to, be looking at country far away that can’t be driven to. All depends on what kind of a buck you’re looking for though. Better odds for bigger deer further from the roads of course.

    You should get a gun boot for when you backpack protect the rifle. Your trailer you haul your quad with is light enough if you are not truly mudding or going through really bad terrain to put on the back of your quad as a quad trailer. Good show love the family time at the end.

    I saw one of the Muley giants of Idaho Giants in Idaho between Riley ( just out side of Idaho Falls and Swan valley in the wheat fields !!!! I was going to work in Swan valley building a house there ! If anyone that knows that area it is the one with the train caboose by it ! Any way the buck I saw at morning dawn coming from the snake river headed to the mountains was easily a 260 inch buck and probably bigger !!!! That thing was massive ! My boss saw me pulled over and stopped to see if I needed help and I showed him why I stopped !!! He said that was by far the largest buck he has ever seen !!! We saw him one time and that was it ! Massive 37 wide , a lot of points not sure how many, but a lot !!! The genetics are there in the area for sure !!!!!

      If that’s the unit I’m thinking, it’s got a weird deer hunt. It’s short ranged weapon only and sometimes there are no non resident tags available. So hopefully someone is able to find the buck you saw. Awesome stuff man. Glad you had the opportunity to see it!

    What kind of head are you using on your tripod for glassing, when you're packing in?

      It’s a Vanguard PH-111V I’ve had on the tripod for about 12 years. Same setup I use whether packing in or from roads. Keep thinking about upgrading but it works and keeps taking battle scars.

    I know that spot. Great use of one unit to get to another. Great buck.

    Nice buck man!! I’m not sure if you remember but we meet on that deer hunt. You stopped at our camp with the wall tent and gave my dad and I a pin on onX for deer.

      Yes, it wasn’t to bad. We were lucky enough to have 3 buck tags a 2 cow elk tags in that unit. We were able to harvest 2 good bucks and 1 okay and a cow elk. Thanks to you we were able to get 2 deer and 1 elk by the pin. Thanks man.

    Hello:
    I do think you nailed it, that deli tuna salad is terrible. Oh and that buck and shot were great. I would like a scope with a dial for distance. Happy hunting!

      One of the guys at work was eating the exact same stuff for lunch when that part came on while showing him. He thinks it’s great, so I guess there’s a market for it.

    Can tell you the gun dialed in pretty good you made a 600 yd shot seem routine
    I would be interested in your rifle setup If you made a video on that sometime

      I got to shoot pretty much daily throughout the summer which paid off. Good idea on a rifle overview video. Thanks for joining!

    Very nice-that's the way "I want" to be able to hunt a Mule Deer- never hunted Mulies before, but I am planning on it.

      Stick-with-it-ness and lots of glassing are key. Good luck when you get your chance!
