Funny you ask. I actually had a loose cable the first time I went to film the review. I couldn’t get it to turn on. So I rode all of Zen with the motor off. I was able to hang with the rest of the group just fine. It felt heavy, but I didn’t notice much drag at all.

Very interesting. That’s a tough call. I’d have to think where the climb is more about power, the Rise is going to win. If it’s very tight and technical, it might be pretty close.

Great channel and awesome review. I´m looking to buy the M20 version but the sizing is confusing me somewhat. I´m 6'2 with 35 inch inseam. How tall are you and is it correctly understood that this Rise is XL?
Great review 👍.After your review I bought trance x2 last year and I like it very much.I want to try emtb but Im afraid of the weight of the full emtb, I like playfully bikes.Would you consider orbea rise as all mountain bike like trance x or rather typical trail bike?My riding is 50/50 trail and light enduro riding and Im trying to figure out if the rise will be capable enough???
I'll go for H15 allu and change the air shaft from 150 to 160mm. Another great thing about this bike is that it uses the same parts as conventional bike, no emtb dedicated parts. The only con is non removable battery. I appreciate your comment 👍
160mm is fine according to Orbea. As the the Orbea 'team' riders are running 160mm! I have a Zeb 160, hta is now 64.7, perfect! Also upped the stem to 45mm to get a little reach back. Also put on an Ohlins TTX22m coil, now feels like bottomless rear travel and so damn planted! Hoping cascade links comes out with a new rear link upping travel/progression, fingers crossed! Bike absolutely rips and will never purchase another ebkie over 45lbs again!
How is the sizing - I tried the Levo SL and was medium on that but think at 175cm I may need to go up a size . Can’t find one to try so will be ordering blind so to speak
Great review! Since you have unlimited access to the Orbea Rise, how often do you ride the Rise compare to an analog bike when you are just riding for fun? If you ride an analog bike more often, which bike do you like to ride?
Thanks! I'm pretty pressed for time these days so I've been riding the e bike about 70% of the time and the normal bike the rest. It also depends on who I'm riding with. Out of the kindness of my heart, I bring the regular bike when I ride with regular bike friends. If I'm by myself I almost always grab the e bike.
@@bikersedge OK for price and power, though not for the weight. Actually at equivalent build the rise will always be 1Kg heavier than the SL, because of its motor and battery. Also another interesting stat (difficult to measure) would be the drag after speed limit. Looks like SL is unbeatable there, at least better than EP8, and I doubt this restricted version of EP8 does better.
@@haribouss I guess weight/price is a better way of looking at it. The $7500 Rise is lighter than a $7500 Levo SL. the drag is interesting. Would be cool to figure out how to measure that on the trail.
@@haribouss You're right that the SL frame (with motor & battery) is lighter, but since the Rise can be spec'd with a lighter suspension (Fox 34 & DPS vs Fox 36 & DPX2) its 10k top spec is still around the same weight as the 14k S-Works SL.
Oops. Didn’t see which video this question was attached to. My bad. I currently have 2.5” up front and 2.4” in the rear. I wouldn’t go bigger than 2.5” on the rear.
Awesome video man! I’m soooo tempted to sell my Levo and get a Rise. What camera are you using? I just got a GP9 but my footage on the first run sucked - need to play with the settings
You can multiply that 360 by 1.5 to get a good comparison to a traditional e bike range. The Rise is lighter, uses less power, and is more efficient. That's why the 360-watt hour battery lasts similar to a 540 on a big e bike. I did a 5.5-hour ride and the battery indicator finally turned red (20% left) as I pulled into the parking lot.
I don’t think prices will drop significantly. Rather, the competition will get more fierce and we’ll see better technology and components for the same price.
i get why these things are a short-term benefit for manufacturers and for retailers, but, mountain bikers will be frakked when every mountain bike is an electric motorcycle, and the bike companies and bike shops and mountain biking are gone for good.

Where is this? Looks like a nice little test track. Was considering this bike but I ended up going Heckler (demo) and throwing a 29er on the front and turned it into a mullet.
Heckler mullet sounds rad!
This is Barrel Roll and Sidewinder in St George, UT.
@@bikersedge I caved, bought the only Rise in my area and sold my Heckler. Love the Rise, really suits me and I just love the feel and how light it is.
40 freedom units = how much in international units ?
Great channel and awesome review. I´m looking to buy the M20 version but the sizing is confusing me somewhat. I´m 6'2 with 35 inch inseam. How tall are you and is it correctly understood that this Rise is XL?
I'm 6'2" and have the XL. Check out our most recent video on bike sizing for more advice.
@@bikersedge Thanx brother, I really appreciate the answer and I will go watch that video now :-)
Great review 👍.After your review I bought trance x2 last year and I like it very much.I want to try emtb but Im afraid of the weight of the full emtb, I like playfully bikes.Would you consider orbea rise as all mountain bike like trance x or rather typical trail bike?My riding is 50/50 trail and light enduro riding and Im trying to figure out if the rise will be capable enough???
I think it’s right between trail and all mountain. I’ve ridden some pretty tough trails on mine. It can get after it.
I'll go for H15 allu and change the air shaft from 150 to 160mm. Another great thing about this bike is that it uses the same parts as conventional bike, no emtb dedicated parts. The only con is non removable battery.
I appreciate your comment 👍
160 would be great. Might need to check on the warranty situation with that. Technically 150 is already over forked from the stock 140.
@@xfortysd40 you can use larger shock and offset bushing to make 160 travel
Any thoughts on the lighter bikes for heavier riders?
I really like the idea of still having to work but I'm not as fit as I used to be and 95kg
I think they’re great for all riders!
How is the sizing - I tried the Levo SL and was medium on that but think at 175cm I may need to go up a size . Can’t find one to try so will be ordering blind so to speak
I feel like their size chart is pretty accurate. I am 6’2” and the XL fits me very well.
@@bikersedge Thank you, that was a priceless reply. I wish I was closer to Salt Lake City, I need to check out your Demos on my next trip.
Let us know when you’re in town! We’d love to get you set up on a demo.
Which of the Minion models did you put on front?
Don’t remember exactly. I’ve since switched to Kenda Pinners front and back. If I had to guess I’d say DHF.
Will you release an updated review with the hydro?
I doubt we will. It’s pretty much the exact same bike. If I’m able to get a media sample I will.
@@bikersedge you don’t think the few extra pounds will make a difference?
Not at all.
@@bikersedge good to know. Perfect! I put down a deposit on a H15 without demoing.
Great review! Your thoughts on the Rise vs the Levo SL?
I haven’t ridden the Levo SL but all the stats on the Rise seem to be better. More power, less weight, more modern geometry and cheaper.
Rise no delivery before september 2021, Levo SL are on stock 😅
@@haribouss You're right that the SL frame (with motor & battery) is lighter, but since the Rise can be spec'd with a lighter suspension (Fox 34 & DPS vs Fox 36 & DPX2) its 10k top spec is still around the same weight as the 14k S-Works SL.
Curious to know what is the largest tire size can be used.
Ibis says 2.6”
@@bikersedge How about on Orbea Rise?
Do it!!
I use a GP Hero 7 with Karma gimbal.
But only 360Wh battery? :( Can you cover range/capacity that you saw on this bike? I was VERY interested until I found this detail.
@@bikersedge thx for the feedback!
There's also an external battery, extra 160 wats or something! Only 2 lbs I believe for over a total of 600 total
@@xfortysd40 It's an extra 252 Wh. At the 1.5x factor that's over 900 WH equivalent.
It looks like a size XL - can you say something about your size and how this fits to me bike size?
I'm 6'2" and it fits me well.
Doesnt it handle well? Why did you edit out so many of the corners?
It handles just fine. Great actually. I usually cut out most of the parts when I’m not talking.
@@bikersedge Got ya. Thanks.
What trail is this? Looks awesome!
A handful of different trails near Barrel Roll in Santa Clara. It's a good time for sure.
Where the big clime ?
What an amazing bike playground to have
I’m not complaining!
whats the name of your shop?
Biker's Edge.
Hello
What did this build weigh ready to ride?
Have you ridden the Levo SL?
Ty for your vid 🤙🏽
It’s around 42 with Tannus tire inserts and pedals. Haven’t ridden the Levo.
@@bikersedge
Ok. Ty
Sick bike can’t deny but 10k shit!
Great review! Good channel. However... $11,000???? What in the f*** has this ridiculous industry come to??
Hey thanks! Yeah.... it's a little silly. To be fair, this is the $8500 version with an upgrade or two. Still a ton of money.
Still to expensive with crappie tires
The tires are pretty solid actually.
Yeah, it's awesome. Not worth it for the price. Also, it'll lose most of its value pretty quickly. The tech just leaps ahead every year.
Based on that it sounds like no one should ever buy a new bike, phone, computer or truck?
@@bikersedge You just have to wait for prices to fall. Just like with all new tech. It's a matter of timing it, I think.
@@Me_ThatsWho Hope that's the case. If the new Levo taught us anything, eMTB prices are only going up - $15k for a MTB!?!
I don’t think prices will drop significantly. Rather, the competition will get more fierce and we’ll see better technology and components for the same price.
Ebikes look fun but the $$$ is too much for me to try.
They can be spendy. The prices will come down with time for sure.
i get why these things are a short-term benefit for manufacturers and for retailers,
but,
mountain bikers will be frakked when every mountain bike is an electric motorcycle, and the bike companies and bike shops and mountain biking are gone for good.
Every sport evolves. When I started, no one rode suspension- too "dirt bikey". Now, it's standard issue on every bike.
