    Great job Mike. Love the mods. I’ve done 1,100km with 36,000m ascent so far on my M10 and it’s been great. Only changes I’ve made are 160mm air shaft and Cuschcore Pro rear, XC front. I ride really rough rocky rooty trails here in Scotland and bike handles it all. Just got my range extender last week and used it for big day out. Completely destroyed my mates on full fats. Only issue I’ve had is had to replace main pivot bearings as ridden hard in a lot of mud. My LBS I bought it from did it for free but was a real pain as the rear brake and speed sensor cable housing interferes with bearing removal. Not the best design.

    Has anyone on here actually measure the travel after putting on a 8.5" x 2.5"(216mm x 63.5mm) shock? I put a 8.5" x 2.5"(216mm x 63.5mm) shock I had from my Yeti sb6. I was a bit suspect about the increase in travel from 140mm to 161mm so I wanted to actually test the travel. Seems that most on here just calculated the proportionality to figure this out, but after putting it on I can confirm that the travel increased to 152mm not 161mm.

    • @mtbmike9866
      @mtbmike9866  2 роки тому

      Depends on the shock. But if comparing 2 identical shocks with a 8mm difference in stroke and a leverage curve of say 2.5 towards the end of the curve, that’s 20mm.
      How do you even measure it near the end with a 5-10mm bottom out bumper preventing you from accessing that part of the stroke (the end) unless you have a few hundred pounds on the shock despite zero air in there

    • @MTBzine
      @MTBzine 2 роки тому

      @@mtbmike9866 The shock I used to test has the same eye to eye and stroke as what you used and has no bottom out bumper. I confirmed I was able to move the rear the full 63.5mm of stroke length to get a proper measurement. The rise has a 2.275 leverage ratio at 140mm and comparing this to the Yeti sb6, that the shock came off of, the yeti has a 2.35 leverage ratio at 140mm and the yeti also has 152mm total travel at the rear axle which is the same I measured on the Orbea rise. I too am a bit perplexed because on paper it makes sense to estimate close to 160mm of travel using a 8.5" x 2.5"(216mm x 63.5mm), but it doesn't seem to workout that way, I measured only 152mm.

      @@MTBzine are you using a ruler? Axle path is an arc, not a straight line measurement

    • @MTBzine
      @MTBzine 2 роки тому

      @@mtbmike9866 Yea I accommodate for that, not hard to do. I first measure axel to floor Perpendicular/90deg angle to floor. Then I take 3 measurements along the travel and the angle changes for each point up to complete bottom out and plot out the curve in mathcad to get total travel. This same issue happened to me tweaking a few other bikes in the past where leverage ratio calculations to estimate total travel just did not work correctly and other bikes where it worked perfectly, its weird. Oh, I also confirmed measuring technique with the stock shock and I got 140mm. I sent this question to a suspension expert I know just to confirm where I may be making a mistake or if my measurements are correct, its driving me nuts, lol.

    Hey Mike. Great review. wondering if i could get a little advice from you.
    I currently have a 2020 Merida e onesixty and a Yt Jeffsy. I am seriously considering selling both bikes to get the Rise. I ride my Jeffsy more than the emtb as i am a fit and strong 50 year old. I really enjoy the emtb but i only ever use eco and sometimes trail. I am faster on my normal bike when it comes to climbing than all my buddies. Long story short do you think the rise can replace both my bikes, and be the one that does it all? I have pimped my jeffsy and all my good kit will swap straight over to the Rise also.
    thanks very much for your time.

    • @mtbmike9866
      @mtbmike9866  3 роки тому +1

      Definitely a possibility if you don’t ride a lot of Park and your local trails are good with Ebikes. You can ride the Rise with your acoustic riding buddies no problem with the motor off. It seriously climbs that well and handling will feel much closer to the Jeffsey than it would the Merida.

    Great video! I have a question about the mullet conversion: with the lower rear axle did you notice the reduction in antisquat going uphill with excessive bobbing? Thanks!

    • @mtbmike9866
      @mtbmike9866  3 роки тому +1

      My concern was too high anti squat as most curves start off higher and drop off as you go through the travel. By the axle path beginning even earlier, anti squat at sag is even higher which is not good regarding suspension performance. Thankfully Orbea must have given the Rise less anti squat than it’s cousin the Occam and it seems to be a good balance between little to no bob and shock sensitivity

    Hello Mike.
    Thank you very much for your review. As I understand, the reason to use offset bushings is to have more slack geometry. What do you think about configuration 160/150 mullet? For this configuration shock size will be the same? What maximum shock size is possible to use in this frame? I not a big fan of offset bushings, but with a height 5’5” it’s really annoying to have 29 wheel in back.

    • @mtbmike9866
      @mtbmike9866  3 роки тому +1

      You need a 216x8.5 shock and may get away without an offset bushing but your rear linkage could make contact. Offset bushing eliminates this possibility. My 8.5x2.5 DHX2 had plenty of room but my 8.5x2.5 DPX2 was too tight. Depends on the shock tolerance and they all differ slightly.
      With this shock, your rear end will be 160mm. You have no choice. So you will need to buy a 160 or 170 air spring for about $50 to upgrade your fork

    Hi Mike. My M10 arrives in October. I’m very interested in copying your mullet conversion. Who manufacturers the offset bushing & where can I get this in the UK? Offsetbushings.com, based in the UK. 8mm offset bushing on both ends. One 8x15.75 is all you need if you want 64-64.5 HT. If you want to go slacker, you order two but the other one is a different length

    Did anyone try to run 216x63mm shock with 2 offset bushing and a 170mm or 160mm fork whilst keeping 29 wheels? How is the set up? Rear tire touching frame? Spaces between rear triangle? Thank you for your feedback.

      Yup, 3-4 guys have done this. Need a 170 fork to get the Geo to 65 deg. Possibly run a 2.3-2.4 tire out back and a 2.5-2.6 tire up front to get 64.5HT. Rear tire won’t touch the frame. Many also running a Ohlins 210x60 on 29er with no issues. Careful with coil selection though. Some do rub on Small and medium frames.

    What type of headset does it use? You could get the reach and BB back in check by using an angle set. -1 or -2 with a 10-20mm longer fork basically offset each other.

    • @mtbmike9866
      @mtbmike9866  3 роки тому

      Doesn’t that steepen the head angle? I like it at 64 degrees. What I’ve done is lower the stem and longer stem to offset the shorter reach and seems to be fine.

      @@mtbmike9866 I ran the numbers in a calculator with a 9point8 -1.5 angle set and 160mm fork (standard shock):
      63.5 HTA, -8mm reach, +2.5mm stack, -0.5 STA, -2mm ETT, +4mm BB
      vs no angle set:
      64.5 HTA, -9.25mm reach, +7mm stack, -0.8 STA, -2mm ETT, +6.5mm BB

      I'm 51 and "reasonably" fit. When I'm on my Wild FS and I'm out solo, it's eco all the way and I use it as a training tool. "Last time I got to the top of this technical climb in Tour/Trail, this time I'll see how far I get in Eco" ... and so on. So I am always pushing myself, but when I'm out with the fitter guy and they're on their emtb's .... I'm in Tour/Trail to stay with them. So for fitness I try and get as many solo rides as possible so I don't need to be in Eco with them. But it's all relative. You can be in Turbo/Boost and still be maxed out.
      I do like the increments that you scale the assistance. That way there's not too much drop or increase and not to much shock either way. To be honest I am rarely in Boost/Turbo at all as it tends to be too much and spins out. Anyway .... really looking forward to getting the Rise, and thanks for sharing what's possible. 🥰
