*******had EXACTLY the same problem .....Here's what I did********
Mine split in the same way as yours Alan. Its a MK3 Galaxy, but identical to the Mondeo. Galaxy is a pig to work on with limited space, so I left clutch cylinder in place, removed the snapped rod. I heated a 2" no8 woodscrew, red hot. held it with long nose clamps and carefully poked it into the socket of the clutch (awkward as given its high up under pedals) and being careful to only catch the remaining bit of the snapped ball, melted against it and with some luck and manual dexterity, pulled it out!
Bought a breakers clutch assembly (£30) and used only the rod and pushed into place...all working fine now.
Saved all the hassled of dismantling the scuttle panels and bleeding the clutch and all that jazz.
    Great content Alan, love it,.

We are right now in the backway of this job. With a leff wheel steering it's more complicated. The complete pedalunit cannot be taken of unless the fusebox has been removed. So we found another way and wiggled the new master into, the bajonet without removing the pedal unit. What an operation but with 2 persons it's doable.Alan,I guess English models right steering the vertical fusebox is also on the left side? Thats for sure an advantage......

When you get a brittle plastic clip, try warming it with a heat gun to probably 150 - 200 degrees and it should restore it to non brittle. Bringing it to a simmer in undiluted glycol antifreeze (200 degrees) would work if you can get it off without it breaking in the first place, a hot air rework station ( about 35 quid ) would be a more practical solution as you can set the air temperature and use it while the part is still attached.

Hi Alan, you mentioned that you hoped that the flywheel wasnt rattling.
I have a rattle that has appeared after replacement of the clutch return spring.
Apparently the garage unable to find the rattle after two goes at it.
Would you try to explain what the rattle would sound like?
This rattle sounds like two teacups rattling together.

can failure of this siliner cause clutch to slip? I changed my mondeo mk4 flywheel, clutch plate , pressureplate and pressure bearing, but it still slips when i accelerate 4. and 5. gear....? or is there possibility that i ordered pressurebearing for solid flywheel cluch and maybe its longer than dualmass flywheel clutch pressure bearing..?

Hi! do you have an idea what could be the reason for the ugly start of the engine after a night break when it is cold? the fuel system was vented, but it did not help. it starts every time, but it strangles and chokes somehow ... the next engine start a minute later is correct. The problem is only with first start. This happens after a long break, when the engine is already very cool. Mondeo Mk5 2015 2.0 diesel 150HP 47,000km.

    Greetings Alan from Croatia.
I like to follow your UA-cam channel because you make very interesting and understandable videos for Ford Mondeo repairs. I drive a 2016 Mondeo 1.5 diesel 88kw. I see a video for changing the master cylinder cylinder. If you can help me with advice. In March of this year, I replaced the master cylinder because the clutch pedal was lagging halfway. And with the original new part. Today in December the same thing started happening to me again. Is it possible that I have the same problem again only after nine months? I can't believe it - the car has traveled only 4000 km since that date.
    Thanks for your future reply

I had a knight mare with one of those master cylinders with the switch on my ford focus 2013 has a similar set up I had a host of issues on the car bucking around over revving on gear change ever diagnostic even fords said clutch position sensor had a new bottom and top sensor still the same problem ford dealer was adamant that there where only 2 sensors on my car it went on and on for around 8 months I had literally had enough of the car drove horrible couldn't get a smooth gear change stop start didn't work gear change arrow didn't work after loads of parts changed I went to an auto electrician and when they told me the hourly rate I nearly died and they couldn't give me a rough time for how much it was going to cost so I scrapped that idea a couple of time another fault was picked up on a different diagnostic machine starter request malfunction so I did a lot of digging around days to be exact on different forums and someone had said about starter request malfunction and there fault was the master cylinder after weeks of issues but thought that it couldn't be that as it's only fluid contained in the cylinder and not electrical so in the end I decided to look on eBay at a cylinder and noticed the electrical component strapped to the side so I decided to take the plunge and buy one had it fitted boom problem gone car is now great even ford couldn't tell me the fault with the car and after chucking money away on various components that all it turned out to be that stupid switch on the master cylinder only visible from the engine bay side and still not easy to see and I just want to wish you all at your garage a merry Christmas and a happy New year and love the videos

I have recently bought a 2014 Mk5 Mondeo 2 Litre Diesel. It has 54,000 and full Ford history. On test drive clutch pedal felt a little soft, compared to my previous Seat Leon 1.4TSI. Which was hard. Is this a concern? And if so what could it be?

Hi, I have a volvo xc60 2014 which had a new clutch fitted last month. The car drives fine but sometimes the clutch pedal gets stuck at halfway. If you lift it up then works fine again until it happens next time again. What could it be?

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  5 місяців тому

it is usually a fault with the clutch slave cylinder in the gearbox bell housing..assuming that was replaced with the clutch, failing that possibly the master cylinder or in some cases a piece of rubber seal or something temporarily blocking a pipe

Surely these parts should be metal not plastic someone from your background should be contacting the manufacturers and giving them your thoughts on plastic parts that only last 50 000 miles compared to older cars that had metal parts and would never break

  • @soonerlon

Too many plastic critical parts - this is why I got rid of my VW GTI. Plastic clutch master and slave cylinder, water pump, intake manifold, engine balance shaft, thermostat housing - and don't even get me started on cheap interior plastics.
