    It was so good to hear Randy say " I always knew I would make it here ". People go to school, work hard and make big sacrifices only to turn around and say " I never thought I would make it this far! " I've never understood that way of thinking.

    This show is just so advertising of Pnina. While SYTTD Lancashire is never about one designer over another. It's about what's best for the bride, or in this case, actress. And honestly, I consider Randy's gowns far more essential and elegant than Pnina's.

    • @thinkingbout
      @thinkingbout 2 роки тому +66

      So true! Also after the designer showed the sketch of his vision I didn't get why they went weddingdress shopping anyway. It fitted the theme of the show much more and was the lenght he had in mind. When they arrived at Kleinfelds and not one of the dresses they showed was short I was a little disappointed because that was one of the only requests he had.

      @@tyroncollins1948 Y'all do realize Kleinfeld only carries like 2 short dresses and they're both skin tight, right? Also, it's broadway, their budget is huge, and chances are the plan was always to do something custom.
      Also, 50s dresses were super poofy, just like the ones shown, and the sweetheart neckline is a dead ringer for 50s evening wear.

    When they first showed the sample dresses I thought: "He asked you for two things: it should look like fiftys and be short so that she can dance. I don't know if they're fiftys style but those are all LONG dresses, why?"
    Glad they found a solution in the end, that fitted the show. But I also really liked the sketch the costume designer showed in the beginning because it fitted the fiftys theme better so I didn't really understand why they had to cooperate in the first place. 🤔

  • @D2J8
    @D2J8 2 роки тому +166

    This was nothing but promo for Pnina and the Broadway show. I’m 95% sure that Kleinfield’s already had a dress that matched the costume designer’s initial sketch, just from a designer that Kleinfield’s doesn’t have a lucrative partnership with. Pnina’s sketch and dress were nowhere near the 1950s style that the costume designer initially envisioned. 👗

    • @thinkingbout

    • @rachelplummer4579
      @rachelplummer4579 Рік тому +10

      I think they focused on finding the right shape and bodice since skirts can always be shortened. But it’s likely true that this was a paid partnership with Pnina.

    • @gamerofedge8111
      @gamerofedge8111 Рік тому +3

      You're insane- That sketch is 50s all the way, the poofy, tea-length skirt and sweetheart neckline is perfect for 50s evening wear, y'all will literally do anything to hate on Pnina

    • @sps6374
      @sps6374 Рік тому +1

      @@gamerofedge8111I think the point is more a case of tea-length 50s gowns being a constant staple in bridal fashion (often in satin, with back buttons, sometimes with a sash-like belt detail, usually worn with narrow veils or birdcages/pillbox hats/fascinators), and as such they’re common enough not to drag out a designer whose personal style doesn’t call back to that era. Especially when the designer’s style is very controversial and has her taste level incessantly questioned. These dresses are not hard to find at all, and fit enough for a stage show - ask any modern rockabilly/pinup girl ! There was no need to go to that extent of customization if they weren’t set on going the Pnina Tornai route (which was very likely orchestrated through a paid partnership deal).

    I have often said to myself that the top of a wedding dress here looks like a corset. Finally I figured out that the designers told themselves that most brides need a corset, so why not just add a skirt to the corset and forget the dress? Saves time and money. The gown seen at 3:37 is a good example. I'm glad she rejected it.

    How does a Broadway show need Kleinfeld's for a wedding dress, when any Broadway show likely has a more than adequate costume department that can produce a bespoke dress in stage-friendly fabrics for far less money and in far less time? Not to mention, they had a pretty detailed drawing ready to go when Randy visited the theater. I'm hoping this was a publicity stunt, for a variety of reasons.

      I am a costume designer. They were going for the elements if design and fit. On stage it is all about the lines. Often cotton tightly woven broadcloth that can be dyed any color is wonderful for costuming as it is is lighter under the lights and for dancing with the moisture and the make up that can run onto the fabrics. I always line gowns with cotton bastiste or something like that, even bridal gowns to catch body moisture and to keep the moisture from the top layers of luxury fabric if used. Extra sweat linings can be built into the underarms ( as they are in men's suits.) Lycra and Spandex panels can be built into the bodice design in order to provide more easy of movement. All kinds of female support garments can be built into garments as well. Dance bodices have to be TIGHT in order to prevent the bosom from popping out. I am certain that there will be collaboration between Pnina and the costume designer for the show as well.
      WHO CARES if this episode was created to promote the Broadway show AND Pnina Tornai? Broadway is ALL ABOUT the collaboration of ALL of the arts, just as show business is no matter what "stage" you are on!
      I have performed as the lead actress, the supporting lead, been a writer, a director, costume and make-up and hair design, set and painting designing, and staging, property manager, vocal director, stage manager, you name it, if you love all aspects of the stage, then you need to be willing to approach and work it from every angle. to understand the craft and to bring others to the passion of enjoyment, of suspending every day life as the audience and the caste transport one another to many realms.

    I just read, "Honeymoon" closed after only 93 regular performances. I guess even a self -serving publicity stunt with a Pnina gown could help. 😂
