I love that you can exploit the Pokémon encounters glitch to get up onto ledges. I'm making my way up the left side of the map catching Pokémon past level 35, and pumping my dudes up.
I found the exploit to get out of town instead of going to class the first time, so I haven't even chosen a path yet, or got Miraidon as a ride Pokémon.

You know it’s real great to have not gotten much time with this game, but I have to watch everybody shit on it. Like I haven’t put in more than like three hours into the game because circumstances and I’m not gonna be allowed to enjoy it without people shitting on my good time.

@@deltaflamestorm7400 that’s not a terribly high bar. From what I gather the stories in this game are…stories. Like on a functional level they work. You can call the plot twists where they exist, and they serve well to give you an excuse to get from point a to b. That said it ain’t no Black and white/black2 and white2, which to this day I hold as the gold standard for story in a Pokémon game. Frankly it’s the gameplay pacing that kills it for me. The game feels dreadful slow and I think that’s in part because of the auto battle. Fights need to feel slow enough that players seriously consider using it. As well I find a lot of the new Pokémon lacking. Many of the new evolutions feel uninspired, and the ones that do feel like they had an interesting idea behind the design are…kinda ugly, but I understand that’s a personal taste. It doesn’t stop me from feeling like they work better on paper, a feeling that isn’t helped by me thinking that they looked better as Pokédex leaks than they do in game. It’s a bad sign when the only interesting evolution I’ve experienced was the starter, and that one Pokémon that looks like a Heartless from 385/2 days. I’ve kinda come to the conclusion that this game is a flop and it’s earned that status in my eyes now. It reminds me a lot of sword and shield when they launched. I had very little enthusiasm for the base game and didn’t play it for months. Then the dlc happened, fixed a lot of the problems I had, and the game rebounded. But I had to pay money for that. And I already paid money for this, and I just don’t feel like I got my money’s worth.
I want to be clear, the graphical glitches at the least of my complaints. Frankly I think the rate at which they’re appearing online and going viral is intentional, as in people going out of their way to cause glitches. Not every case, but a lot of the examples feel like bad faith from people that had their heart set on not liking the game. I wanted to like this game and just don’t. I think I’m at the point with Pokémon that I believe it’s best days are behind it. Not for nothing, but because game freak is either too lazy to put real effort into game development, or Nintendo being unwilling to let them have time. Either way it’s the same root cause: they know you will by the game. They know you’ll spent that money to keep porting up your Pokémon. It’s why Bank has a price tag. But this is the first Pokémon game where I’m hesitant to transfer my precious Pokémon to it. I actually feel like it doesn’t deserve them.
Throughout this rant I keep trying to think to the most fun I’ve had with a Pokémon game was, and I keep coming back to Legends: Arceus. It was a game with flaws, but it had infinitely more charm and life in it. The environments felt vivid and alive (for a modern Pokémon game) and catching Pokémon felt meaningful even if I’ve caught all of these Pokémon before; most just one game ago. And with that I want to issue Game Freak a challenge: to make fewer “new” generations. It’s like we’ve rocketed past two whole generations, both full of disappointment. That isn’t healthy for a franchise. You can’t just go “oops we fucked up. Well on to the next game!” They need to really understand where the problems lie.
They’re an interview from a few years ago with some of the developers being asked why they don’t just bring back old, beloved gameplay staples, namely walking with your Pokémon. I’m not gonna find the full quote, but they said something to the effect of ‘we don’t wanna spoil the player, so we take stuff out so we can bring it back as a little surprise.’ And I can’t help but think this is a toxic dynamic. Game Freak *knows* they can do better. They just don’t. They, like a good chuck of Nintendo’s development teams, understand that they’re on the safest ship on the seven seas. We keep that ship afloat. We collectively need to reject this mediocre standard. Because it’s hurting us the most. I liked to think that the fact this game was torn apart on social media, both in criticism and in people abusing mechanics, was because of other players. But Elden Ring didn’t have problems like this. People were too busy loving the game for the first two months. It hasn’t even been one month and this game is old new, and they came out in the same year! Am I saying Pokémon needs an Elden Ring level quality game? Yes. Yes that is exactly what I’m saying. Or at least Breath of the Wild level quality. And I don’t think Game Freak deserves anymore of mine, yours, or anyones time until they give this series the care it needs. These motherfuckers have been making spiritual gameboy games literally until the dedicated handheld consoles died. Now they’re being forced into a position where they have to make console games, and they can’t get past the quality of Colosseum or Gale of Darkness, two Pokémon games made by a dev team that had never touched the franchise beforehand.
It’s a problem. It always has been a problem. It’s just harder to ignore now.

I mean Ragnarok is the better game from an all around standpoint. There's really no debating there. If pokemon was owned by Sony then it might try to do what gamefreak is doing but I doubt it. The developers under Sony seem to care more about the quality.

Dang pokemon fans just love to complain
They weren't complaining until recently. All of this could've been avoided if Pokemon Scarlet and Violet had good merits and were unique (like Arceus), they weren't.
Of course, this game's flop and the deluge of promotional tie-ins for the brand says that Pokemon might be in it's final days of relevance. Now for some strapping young garage devs to take the crown...
