      The fact that they have to raise the power draw and add fake frames to achieve more performance. Goes to show we are at a bottleneck of technology advancement.

      Innovations..? Even the RTX 3080 was PCIe 5.0 x16 compatible.. but the RTX 4080 reverted back to PCIe 4.0 x16 just for more profit.. and good to see the 1,5TB/s transfer speed, but that is only between GPU RAM and the GPU.. if the GPU try to communicate with the CPU/System RAM, it's going through on that 32GB/s limited PCIe 4.0 x 16 slot.. so nearly 50x slower transfer speed recently, when they already released PCIe 5.0 x 16 GPU with 64GB/s transfer speed couple years ago.. this is not innovation, it's just pure greed.. they give you the crappyer technology because it's cheaper and they can get more profit with that.. imagine if all you SSD is replaced with HDD, just because it's cheaper, and you are too dump to realize it's slower.. would you like that? Because they are doing that with you with the reverted (and slower transfer speed) parts..

      Go look at the price of TSMC's nodes. Every single commentator seems to just glance over the fact that the cost of manufacturing smaller transistors is a stupid price hike. The price difference between TSMC 28 nm and 8 nm, only $2000. 8nm and 7nm? $5000 7nm and 5nm? $6000. 3nm is currently priced out at $20000 per wafer and 2nm projected to be $26000. 8nm was $5000 per wafer btw. The days of budget cards are literally over. $200 does not cover the cost of a single die from these wafers, not even close. Especially when only half of the 100 or so die's on a wafer are operational. Add in the cost of R&D, software support and margins, you can reliablely predict how expensive and unwhelming future "budget" cards are going to be.

They don't need to keep shrinking nodes if they can get more performance per watt from a much better yield on silicon with current manufacturing and then applying chiplet and 3D cache to it like they did with the 3D series CPU's. Except that in reality, the solution to hitting an efficiency wall isn't to tim taylor it, it's to find a way around it. In other words, look at Intel vs AMD Ryzen. This is LITERALLY part of what AMD said they are doing by dropping out of the top of the line race in GPUs at the moment. Capture the product stack at the 'budhet-affordable' range, and then use that money to go back to the drawing board, so they can come back with a product that solves the limitations their competitor has hit. The problem is, that unlike with Intel, where the CPUs aren't backed up by proprietary software features, NVIDIA has a long history of biasing the implementations of core features to favor THEIR hardware, and relying on patents and IP laws to force an arbitrary dependency when there doesn't actually need to be one. God forbid we talk about how much of their market dominance is inertial faith and the sweetheart deals they make with Dell and other system integrators to ensure most the market is utilizing their hardware, and with it, disincentivize software developers to focus on improving the hardware agnostic methods.
      NVIDIA is scum, pure and simple. They have relied on anti-competitive practices since the 2000s.

    • @marknewellmusic
      @marknewellmusic 11 днів тому

      @@jtnachos16 Agree partly but reality is, all company's that are publicly listed, have a legal obligation to maximise profits for shareholders so ALL floated companies are inherently ruthless in a capitalistic sense as they face shareholder accountability if they aren't going for more money always.

      Nvidia does have quite a history of pushing graphics development over the years moreso than Amd and that can't help but breed consumer loyalty which will always be hard to shake off.
      1 thing is certain for the future: If nvidia continue with greed at the high end, then Amd will swoop in over the mid to long term at the mid end and budget end and will end up being the future of gaming PC graphics cards in most typical peoples PCs

      @marknewellmusic 11 днів тому

      @@mueccke I agree, vram alone would be a bad indicator but considering it alongside power limits and the other known specs of the 5090, everything is pointing to around 50% better than 4090, the 3k was new progress and more power than before, 4k was the refinement of 3k but using less power, so now for 5k to progress, it can only be done using more power and there's a point where users find power rediculous and nvidia knows that - this is what will lead to only moderate increases in performance each generation now eg 50% more as the power reqs will stop nvidia putting out 80-100% better cards than last gen card.
      Everything now is pointing to performance gains being slowed due to crazy power reqs being needed for future better performance, so progress in general is slowing down and maybe 5 years from now, we will see it levelling off as fab shrinks prove harder and harder to achieve and harder to give high yields.

Compare to Europe, where you have insanity like VAT tax that is set to around 20% for all but the smallest/poorest nations, and even in places like Canada, 15% is the average, not an outlier.
      Now, that's BEFORE factoring in that things are actually priced higher in European countries for reasons beyond just sales/goods taxes.

Currently a G card costing that sort of money is plain rediculous, then spending at least the same on the rest of the system, you won't run one of these on budget systems! Hell, just the psu over here will set you back $300+. Is 4k 'really' worth it? Previously, when NVIDIA released new GPUs, the price of a model in the same series (like upgrading from an RTX 2060 to an RTX 3060) would be roughly the same on release, but the newer model had better specs. This made upgrading a sensible choice.
    However, now the pricing structure has changed. Instead of being based on the model or series, prices are more tied to performance. For example, both the RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 3070 are now averaging around $320, even though they are from different generations.

    Remember the 3090ti was 2k at launch. The 3090 was 1500, the 4090 launched at 1700. I don’t see it being over 2k, but, we’ll see I guess

      Yes, only the China ban drove the 4090 over 2k for a while.

    NVIDIA is discontinuing the RTX 4090, leaving the RTX 5090 as the only high-end option. Despite its MSRP of $2,225, scalpers are expected to drive prices to between $3,000 and $4,000. An impending recession could potentially soften the market, possibly leading to more affordable RTX 5090s closer to the holiday season.

    28gb vram is so incredibly unneccesary, dont need more than 16-20gb, with 16gb you're done in 1440p for the coming 5-6 years guaranteed.

    4090 products always gonna sell, because its like the lifted turbocharged truck of pc gaming, its Beeg size and capability to raw dog any game is what appeals to people so it doesn't surprise me they are selling, so if the 5090 is similar, it will sell as well

    Nvidia is basically doing what intel is doing. more watts for more performance. while AMD is less watts for good or same performance.

    It's gotten out of hand. I'd consider it a monopoly at this point because the RX series doesn't compete anymore.

    idc how much they charge for the 4090 or 5090. But i really wish would just squeeze the high end and pass some savings to their budget options.

      People are paying 600 dollars for 12gb nvidia cards. Nvidia just dropped mem speed and only removed one letter on the box. Same part number. Until amd has significant gpu market share this will continue. Buy a 7900gre if you don't like this. That's right you will pay 3000 for the 5090.

      No I won't. I've completely given up on Nvidia at this point I'm eyeing the 7900gre but honestly their ain't many games to justify it at the moment. Ill just wait for the 8000 series equivalent.
