- Presenting.....The Battle of Maxia. Using my DSC Stargazer. First visiting Maxia Zeta III, making a planetary scan, then moving on to Maxia Zeta IV.
Doing some research from Memory Alpha, watching TNG: The Battle, reading the actual battle in the book The Buried Age, Trekyards "The Battle of Maxia" episode, and looking at VideoSpaceFX's amazing version of The Battle of Maxia (funny we ended up using the same music in the beginning, didnt even notice that until I finished lol, the original beginning I was going to use is actually when you first see the star system, but figured I should put something before it seeing I made 2 warp fly bys), I began this project.
According to Memory Alpha, the Maxia Zeta star system is a binary system with a K type primary star and an M type star. Even though the diagram of the system only shows the primary K type star. But I showed them both anyway. The nebulous background among the stars was just an extra touch.
At first I was only going to make the Picard Maneuver, but figured you guys would want the entire Battle of Maxia, so I figured....lets do it!
Quick Note: I was trying to make this a bit more realistic, so when I saw the distance covered would be 30 light seconds (9 million km), I pushed the ship farther back than its always represented. BUT....I noticed at that distanced it was pretty much a dot lol. So, I brought her a bit closer so you guys could actually SEE the Stargazers after image.
Also, I wasn't going to add this, but just in case someone thinks I made a mistake by having an after image zooming backwards after the Stargazer "appears" instead of moving forward like a normal warp drop. Thats not a mistake, I made it that way based off how it would realistically look. Due to the vessel dropping out of warp close by from a short distance, you should see the ship just appear out of no where, then due to the light still catching up from its previous positions, you should see an after image appear to move backwards to the source extremely fast. Thats why I made that effect. Some of that is actually explained in the PBS Space Time video "Superluminal Time Travel + Time Warp Challenge Answer | Space Time". (Just go to the 7 minute mark for the explanation of what you'd see if a ship a light speed passed by you).
So basically I tried to make some bits realistic (the bits that I thought would look cool IRL), along with some aesthetic choices such as bringing the vessel closer so she could be seen.
Im STILL working on my explosions, I make animations constantly but I dont create explosions that much so thats one thing Im still working on.
Finally, I also tried to add some detailing such a scorch marks, flashing (power failing) windows, fiery windows (seeing she had multiple fires....yea, thats what the yellow windows are lol), along with other bits showing damage.
All in all, this took about 17 days to make. As always....enjoy :)

This is everything that’s right with the Star Trek universe.
Yeah, the thing about star trek is its glorious ships, and also the warp travel concept, imo.
This is amazing work ! The only critique I have is that the Picard maneuver is supposed to show two ships at once when they jump to warp for that split second confusing the ferengies sensors I didn't see that here. Nonetheless amazing video quality and amazing quality of the ship details especially with the stargazer.
If you look where the Ferengi ship fires @ 5:28, you can see the "other" Stargazer in the background for a split second. She's there.

On stardate 40217.3 the Stargazer was on a routine survey mission near the Maxia Zeta star system. It was preparing for a full survey and sensor scan when an unidentified spacecraft was detected near one of the moons of Maxia Zeta IV. This ship later turned out to be a Ferengi vessel that may have been hiding within a deep lunar crater and was launched from said moon, though scans indicated no launch complex. All attempts to hail the ship failed.
The battle began when the Stargazer was suddenly fired upon by the Ferengi ship while travelling at warp 2 through the system. The ship was able to score two direct hits on the Stargazer. After attempts to warn the ship off had failed and with his shields nearly gone and the Ferengi closing in, Picard, with weapons coming to full charge, ordered a sensor bearing on the Ferengi ship and at the right moment, Picard devised what would later be known as the Picard Maneuver: he ordered the Stargazer to engage high warp for a split second, bringing the ship off the Ferengi's starboard bow. Since the Ferengi vessel's sensors were limited to light speed, it appeared as though the Stargazer was suddenly in two places at once.
With the Ferengi momentarily confused, they fired on the wrong ship; the one that was far away. With that, the Stargazer opened fire with a full phaser and photon torpedo barrage, destroying the attacking ship. However, the Stargazer's systems were failing, and the crew was forced to abandon ship in escape pods. The crew was later rescued, although the Stargazer herself drifted to parts unknown. The starship was eventually recovered by Bok, and used in his scheme to seek revenge against Picard, as well as to discredit the role of the "Hero of Maxia" in the Battle of Maxia with falsified logs claiming that Picard had been the one to attack the Ferengi ship without provocation.
Pre-TNG stardates are weird, just gonna say. Like, 40217.3 should imply that the Battle of Maxia happened the year before TNG started.

@@seanreichle983 It's given in a 1970's source that they use Sidereal time for star dates, which is based on how far the galaxy has rotated from the starting orientation it was in when the UFP was founded. Sidereal time is therefore the same for all members of the UFP. The UFP was founded on Stardate 00000.0.
It was 9 years before season 1 of TNG so should be stardate 30xxx.x
I love your design for the Ferengi ship. It's unique, yet distinctly Ferengi.

The Battle of Maxia 1 of my favourite Star Trek battles & the Picard manoeuvre is 1 of my Star Trek manoeuvres & the USS Stargazer is 1 of my favourite Federation Starships

Constellation-class.. a cruiser, yes, but what kind?
Given her large shuttle decks, she seems capable of carrying up to 20 "standard" (~7 meter length) shuttles. Smaller shuttles, or specialized variants, would possibly decrease this capacity. These bays are also where specialized probes were launched from (apparently, the front/side were mainly for that). Compare this to a standard Heavy Cruiser of the day, the refit Constitution. They had a capacity of about 5 shuttles.
Given her armament - 12 phasers in 6 dual banks, 4 Photon tubes each capable of a two-shot burst - and the _Constellation-class_ starts to look suspiciously like the _Kiev-class_ or _Kuzetsnov-class_ "cruisers" of the Russian Navy, which they called "Aviation Cruisers." If the _Constellation-class_ was instead equipped with fighters or fighter-bombers, it could easily stuff a lot more craft in there, possibly as many as 30. This, combined with its offensive armament that compares almost directly to the _Abbe-class_ ships, would classify the _Constellation-class_ as a "Medium Aviation Cruiser."
I can see a lot of creative licenses were taken here.. but this is still really good.

Where was the Picard Maneuver? A short work jump that made the ship appear to be in two places at once and they shot the wrong one

This doesn't match how the Picard maneuver is described at all, it was meant to look like the Stargazer was in two places at once because of photon lag, maybe if you had shown it from the Ferengi perspective.

Ok how did the sensors not pick up that ship coming at them ? Why no shield up ? These captains need to go back to top gun school .. And look out the window now and then .. Doesn't anyone know where the phaser and torpedo buttons are ? Why the hell didn't they do that in the first place ? Was there a mutiny and the #2 took over ?

I'm very impressed with your work, what I'm not impressed by is your lack of audience engagement. And for that, I won't be subbing or liking the video.
