  • Hey All! I am finally delving into QOTSA, as I have only heard 2 songs from them before this. This is one of their older ones, and what an excellent rock song this was. Perfect.

QOTSA was a staple in my car whenever I was on a roadtrip, especially the first three albums...any project Josh is involved in is gold , whether it's, Queens, Desert Sessions, or Them Crooked Vultures with John Paul Jones and Dave Grohl...I think Song for the Deaf, would be a good QOTSA song you'd enjoy Mike

Double header, yeah! The studio version is slower, sexier, and sludgier than the live. I’m so glad you did both! I think the camera cutaway during the solo is because until about a year ago, Josh was notoriously secretive about what amps and pedals he uses. Fans have been trying to duplicate that QOTSA sound forever. Josh finally revealed what amp he uses last year. I don’t know anything about gear, but from what I understand, it’s a fairly basic and cheap one, like what beginners use. The price of that amp skyrocketed after people found out LOL.
If you didn’t know, Dave Grohl was the drummer on their Songs for the Deaf album and most of their …Like Clockwork album. I also recommend checking out a live performance of “Song for the Dead”. There are some good ones with Mark Lanegan (RIP) singing and Dave drumming. Props to you for knowing “Avon”. That self-titled album had quite a few great songs. More QOTSA suggestions to come. Thank you!

Well Linda, that put me at peace with the end of this video then. After awhile I was like okay, this is deliberate lol.
And Paz! there's nothing like a good road trip. And an even better one with some good tunes

Another From the Basement performance of theirs to check out is “I Think I Lost My Headache”. Troy plays that instrument you were wondering about; I think it is called a lap steel guitar. They also focus on Josh on the solo. He is really riffing on it. Their From the Basement performance of “You Think I Ain’t Worth A Dollar (But I Feel Like A Millionaire)” kicks ass, but it’s one of those songs that is over almost as soon as it starts. 😁
Also, this is from years ago, Joey Castillo on drums left the band around 2013. Jon Theodore from The Mars Volta became their drummer.
    You’re awesome!

Thanks for the info and comment my friend! Yes I saw another guy's comment too about this being old. I got tricked because of the upload date! And the video quality was pretty good, so I really did figure this was from a year ago. Still great though! Definitely interested to keep delving into QOTSA

I second this. Album version and basement version of I think I lost my headache are a must. You’ll hear the lap steel and the ending are completely different so they change it up.

This performance was actually recorded 9 years after Mexicola came out. But you’re right it does look like 23 years later.

QOTSA is beyond tremendous 🤘🏽 And I appreciate you reacting to the studio along with a live version of this beast of a song. Also, the instrument you were asking about is a lap steel, which is kind of like a horizontal guitar.

QOTSA are one of the best bands you can do. Anything with Josh Homme in it is quality

Fun fact: Everything on the first album (minus the drums) was done by Homme

First albums were as raw as this. Later albums they were sharpening their swords, knives, axes and everything, in a way the last album was soul piercing.
You definitely would enjoy them. They are also growers, they get better with time...
