I think the lyrics for 'Sabotage' came from Ad-Rock's (Adam Horowitz) frustration in the studio w/ the producer, trying to control the recording sessions... 😂Beastie Boys said they shot the video in L.A. using wigs, prop clothes and a beat up car w/ a flashing light... they had no permits to film and were running around shooting the scenes, and were lucky the REAL police never showed up.
Can't go wrong with any Beastie Boys...these guys are Epic !
I*m a rock music fan for over 50 years , but these guys are also in my collection, they were so talented, love them ! R.I.P. Adam (+2012 )
From Wikipedia: "The song's music video, directed by Spike Jonze and played extensively on MTV, is a homage to, and parody of, 1970s crime drama shows such as 'Hawaii Five-O,' 'The Streets of San Francisco,' 'S.W.A.T.,' 'Baretta,' and 'Starsky and Hutch.' The video is presented as the opening credits of a fictional 1970s-style police show called 'Sabotage,' with the band members appearing as the show's protagonists. Each band member is introduced as a fictional actor, and the names of the characters are also given."
"I'm Buddy Rich when I fly off the handle !" Buddy Rich was a famous jazz drummer who was known for blowing up on his band if they made a mistake.
It’s SaboTAGGGGGGGE!!! This was one of the greatest songs by The Beastie Boys. I used to see MCA downtown quite a bit. Their first album was a hit in the mid-80s. RIP to Adam Yauch...
FUN FACT: Beastie Boys were straight up Hip Hop and got LL Cool J signed to a record deal because they liked him so much. He inducted The Beastie Boys into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
One of the greatest songs ever written.
" get it together" with Qtip or "Root Down" is absolutely 💯 🔥
I absolutely love the cheesy tongue in cheek 70s theme throughout this music video, it shows they don't take themselves too seriously & know how to have fun 😉
Starsky and Hutch feels….
that's how they rolled.
Agreed! Not taking themselves too seriously is one of the best things about them!
Streets of San Francisco.
Spike Jonez. Dude started out as a skateboard photographer and now has an academy award. He was part of the Jackass production and made some music videos along the way. Supremely talented.
Asia and BJ classic, he drops the robot dance like it’s nothing, she captivates with that smile and eyes …. Oh yeah and the beat !
The video is for everybody that remembered the 70's cop shows...a 'Quinn Martin Production'... : )
The live version is fire, they play their instruments
True, but the music video is legendary.
"Sabotage" is one of the best rap songs ever, and it has one of the best videos. In an interview Ad-rock told that the idea for the video came to them while watching an episode of the mythical television series "The streets of San Francisco". And they hired the great Spike Jonze ("Being Joh Malkovich") to direct it.
This is a punk song, I don't care what else anybody says.
@@elbruces The Beastie boys have some punk song on their records. But this is not one of them. There is not a single note in any of the syllables of any of the words in the entire song. If in a song they rap, and they don't sing... it's a rap song, friend. But we can discuss if it's a hip hop song, a rap rock song, or a rap metal song.🤣🤣
@@thepsychophonic If you think punk vocals need melody, then you haven't listened to enough punk.
@@elbruces 🤣🤣🤣And if you think that, it's because you didn't grow up in the late 70s, sucking music from the tit of parents of punk.
The beasties ..pioneers❤️
The Beasties were the epitome of badass.
One of the greatest music videos ever made, period!
Rhymin’ and stealin’ is great song by them. Same with Posse in Effect or The New Style
When you started going daa-dum with the beat at the end, it made me think of their song Eugene's Lament. Which led me to think about how criminally underrated their instrumental tracks are. From top to bottom and all around, they were just fantastic musicians.
They have an instrumental album called The In Sound From Way Out, it's pretty awesome.
@@glennfortson2443 a go to for me when I need something on but I need to focus on something else.
One of the best 1970's cop show intro spoofs. Wicked song too.
Mix of punk and rap. Very popular song and video back in the days! Videos (mid '90s) hilarious. Like an old '70s/'80s cop show. movies. Cheesy lol
One of my fave Beastie Boys songs! ♥
3:53 Beastie Boys beats was top rated at their times. If you grew up in 90s, you must have heard them in one of the top charts on radio and tv for old school hip hop. And they won 3x Grammy and 7x MTV music awards.
It's just hip hop changes, old school has done their times, and new kids entered the show to create their own times.
Thank you for sharing this with me
I first heard this song in the 2009 Star Trek movie and was later used in the the 2016 star trek beyond movie
You can never go wrong with beastie boys!!!
Hey. I know this is late but I enjoy watching you guys. Old white guy here. Let me give you a patch of input. Most reactions of this vid are a bit off. Its release is from the 90's but I cannot help but think of Starskey And Hutch. If you youtube Starskey & Hutch car chase you will see what I believe to be the inspiration for this vid. Big hair and moustaches, cop chases. Huggy bear was the informant/ cohort as I recall in Starskey and Hutch. This was in late 70's. Getting old doesnt suck. I just want it remembered right. Love you guys. PS: No disrespect BJ but tip of the hat compliment. Asia, if I was 35 years younger you would have to fight me down! All respect!!!!
only folks that don't know underestimate the Beastie's Greatness.
I'm sure you know that they play ALL of these instruments themselves: Bass, Guitar and drums.
They helped start the hip hop sound. If you like hip hop, rap, and hardcore punk, then beastie boyz is where it’s at. Count that 3 genres.
Beastie shows back in the day were a straight up party scene. Ah back in the day. Long live the School of Hard Knocks
They play the instruments on this song. MCA on bass, MIKE D on drums and AD ROCK on guitar and vocals. The video is a parody of 1970's crime/drama tv shows. Some other songs to check out are:
HEY LADIES (Music video).
SHAKE YOUR RUMP (Music video).
HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER.
PROFESSOR BOOTY.
The Beastie Boys LIVE doing this song on MTV Music awards or on David Letterman was awesome!
Video is a spoof of old classic 70's detective shows....Had me howling when I first saw it waaay back in the day....
Always loved how they reminded everyone they came from NY Hardcore regularly
One of the reasons the Beastie Boys beats are so different is that they started as a punk band, so they have a slightly different spin on things. Check out Polly Wog Stew
Thanks for doing their video! MORE B BOYS please!!! Gratitude / 3 MC's and 1 DJ / anything from Paul's Boutique !
I had their first vinyl. This was new to me at the time.
This was in the reboot of Star Trek with Chris Pine as Kirk! Awesome scene!
It was the absolute perfect song to use in the context it was used in, too. Maybe a bit “cheesy” but I loved it!
Beastie Boys "Hey Ladies" is another great video
And yep, that's them playing the instruments!
Who doesn't love a mid-jam donut break/beat drop/nasty bass solo?
They play all the instruments in all there songs.
I LOVE THIS SONG. I’m old. 😁❤️. What a great spoof on a 70’s cop show.
Bj laughing when dude got thrown out the car got me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The prominent voice that probably stands out most to you is Ad Rock then the guy with the gravelly raspy voice is MCA and then you have Mike D who kind of sounds like a less hyped up Ad Rock. Ad Rock's drops have been sampled in so many different hip hop tracks for the years I think mainly due to the unique sound of his voice
The music video is a parody of original 68-80 five-0 opening titles and the 70’s starsky and hutch tv series opening titles
SABOTAGE! ❤❤❤🎉
I would love to get my hands on a Canada leather jacket like the one at 3:26. Also, hearing this song makes me feel like i could sprint for 10 miles. love and peace, from The North
This was used in the Star Trek Kelvin Timeline movies.
The Beasties continually evolved; every carnation was brilliant; PLEASE react to some of their License to Ill album; my favorite: PAUL REVERE 🔥🔥🔥
Omg this video is one of my favorite’s the way there playing 70’s undercover cops 🤣
So many kick ass songs from the Beastie Boys....
Hahahahaha! Glad you laughed at the right spots, throwing the bad guys off of bridges and out of moving cars. LOL.
It's like old 1970's Starsky and Hutch.
Every new Beastie Boys video was like Christmas morning
The live performance on the David Letterman show is compulsory watching now. This video was fun but that live performance takes it to a whole other level.
Asia... take a deep dive into the Beastie Boys... they do not disappoint!!! RIP MCA!!! 3 Mc's and 1 DJ; Hey Ladies; Root Down; Shake Your Rump; So What'cha Want; Sure Shot; Hold It Now, Hit It; Get It Together; Pass the Mic and so many more!!!
SURE SHOT is definitely another of their best
Check out “Paul Revere” by beastie boys for Old school hip hop with storytelling, heavy bass, and a great beat.
Love the Beasties!
Beastie boys
Make some noise
Very famous actors in the last video they made while mca was fighting cancer!
That face melt after the drop..:)
"Three MC's and One DJ" video will not disappoint!!
Beastie Boys are awesome!
they play their own instruments, which is dope
This song was featured in the Star Trek reboot film that starred Chris Pine. It was used in the scene where we are introduce to the "character" of James Tiberius Kirk, the scene is very funny, but I don't want to spoil it for you.
Great album. Ill Communication
Asia you are so beautiful!
What a smile!
Love sabatoge
Check out “Gratitude” and “New Style”.
That was fun to watch again for the first time in a long time!
The video is a spoof of 70s cop shows like Starsky & Hutch.
Check out "Finger lickin' Good" off of Check your Head, their 3rd album. Thx.
I can't wait until they get to the video of 3 MCs 1 DJ
You need to check out the cover of this by Korn AND Slipknot in 2015 in London. I was there and it was epic!
I would say that Shake your Rump is reasonably similar to this song. If you’re looking for more of the same!
So just letting y'all know that there is a Slipknot with Korn like e version they did together!!!! 😉❤✌🏼
The video is based on all the corny cop shows of the 70s. They nailed it lol
Root Down. This song is the Beastie Boys tribute to Hip Hop IMHO.
Three MCs And One DJ is a favorite. You should check it out
The look on Asia's face at 3:24 should have made it on the thumbnail for the video
Beasties never took themselves seriously ✌
Whattaya gonna do its the Beastie Boys ! Crank it!
3 MCs and 1 DJ is amazing by them if you haven't done it yet.
If you like the Beastie Boys you should check out the rap group called New Kingdom. They put out too great albums in the 90's. "Heavy Load" and "Paradise Don't Come Cheap". They didn't sound exactly like the Beastie Boys but they did have some similarities at times. They could seamlessly merge the sounds of rap & rock without sounding exactly like either one. They were something else on another level. If I had to choose only one of their albums it would be their second "Paradise Don't Come Cheap". It was their masterpiece.
The video was filmed in Kansas City. I tried like crazy to get to be an extra but didn’t make it in time.
ILL Communication is the dopest Hip Hop album ever, IMO
My favorite BB song, by far! These boys rock, and their videos are so entertaining! Check out "Body Movin'".
It's well known that Eminem's Berzerk is an homage to the Beastie Boys, but this is one of the songs I hear most in that song, if that makes sense. One of the classics. "Get it Together" featuring Q-Tip is another great Beastie Boy track you probably haven't done yet.
Brings me back to 6th grade in 96/97
👊🏻NYC Represent 👊🏻
You should also try the Alex Metric Remix of Sabotage. Damn good.
You gotta check out Car Thief, maybe their best Song!
Pece and LOVE FROM PUERTO RICO 🇵🇷 Great 🎧 show, the BESTIE BOYS play all the instruments and in the bigining was a ☠PUNK BAND☠check out the B.B MUSIC 🎥VIDEO 🔥(YOU GOTTA)FIGTH FOR YOU RIGHT (TO PARTY )🔥😈🎼🧢🎸🥃🎤🎧😎🎼🤘🤘🤘🎛🎚🔊🎶🎶🎶📻
check out live Korn and Slipknot together singing The Boys Sabotage
Please react to Joe Bonomassa "drive". He plays some of the best guitar you will ever hear.
Fantastic song....and maybe the best video EVER! Making fun of cheesy 1970s cop shows. Hilarious.
Sadly I can remember when this song came out lol
Spike Jonze × Beastie boys = Sabotage.
will straight breaking off out the gate.
If you haven’t yet you should check and react to Cypress Hill’s Hits From The Bong. Or any song from their album Black Sunday.
