@@austincowper7551Not Steve but absolutely. As somebody who has multiple tv brands in their house, the Sony has the best motion as well as upscaling for sports content. Especially on wide angle shots for content like football it’s great you’re still able to see the detail in the background. Also, Sony has a higher Q/A than TCL and tend to last longer so take that into your decision as well!

I hope this helps answer questions to those considering between the 85QM8, 85U8K, 85X90CL, and even the 77S90C. I started back in July with the 85QM8, and I loved the contrast, brightness, and vibrant colors. Hated the horrible streaming upscaling capability that literally made certain content like MLB game unwatchable because it couldn't even make the face of the hitters recognizable. Also, poor EOTF would overblow certqim bright images to the point that all details were lost, so I returned it one month later.
Tried the 77S90C, better than 85QM8 at everything, except brightness during day watching and SIZE, I didnt think the 8" drop was going to be that noticeable, but it was....and currently that dont think its worth paying 2-3X the price for an 83" oled.
I currently have both the 85U8K and the 85X90CL side by side agaisnt by wifes wishes 😂. Like most people, I felt cheated by the 85X90CL with a FALD display and probably only 150 dimming zones at best...So I had to try to the 85U8K Mini-LED with 1300 dimming zones, 1500 NITS, QLED, and an 8.5 rating from RTINGS.COM.
After a couple of days of playing with them side by side, (not hearsay), for the purpose os STREAMING only, I have NOT tried gaming, the X90CL has better colors, including blacks period!
Side by side, same content, same image, the colors of the 85U8K are dull/washed out in EVERY mode because of the way Hisense is choosing to present the colors this year. FYI, FOMO, along with other youtubers and even others in the comments, had mentioned that, but I guess I'm a bit stubborn and refused to 100% believe it😅.
I'm not a professional calibrator, but I have some experience with tweaking tv settings...I mean come on, this year alone this is the 4th tv since July chasing my best picture quality valueed tv 😁, since I probably wont upgrade again for another 3-5 years I hope.
I have never owned a SONY until the 85X90CL, I used to think that they were overpriced for what you were getting, and based on reviews from youtubers and RTINGS.COM, they were not worth it imo.
Based on the fact that the clarity is soooooooo much better in most content on the X90CL over the U8K, dont believe me? Try streaming Darkwing Duck from Disney plus side by side 😆, also what's with the dullness of the U8Ks colors including blacks 🤦🏽‍♂️, and yes, im also comparing them wot the QM8 and the S90C...The 85U8K is sadly going back...I had such high hope for it considering I waited forever to get my hands on the 85U8K.
I hope that answers some of your questions. But if in doubt or curious like I was, order both and put them side by side like I did 👋.

The TCL regarding black levels would be clearly better than the Sony. I purchased the QM8 65 inch and literally no blooming. This is the first LCD TV I didn't need to use bias lighting to help with blooming. Also this is the first TV I actually squinted when watching a movie because of the brightness. Watched the second Pacific Rim movie and it was great in HDR! Took a while to dial it in more than any other TV I have owned but it was worth it.

I feel like most people prefer brightness over accuracy, but I personally personally prefer an image that's properly calibrated as close to reference as possible. I base this on seeing peoples displays that look like a bug zapper, and when I eyeball it closer to calibrate, they hate it and want the zapper back 😂.

Just got a 65 x90l, and fuuuuuu it can go soooo damn bright!!! I love the HDR tone mapping, it doesn't blow up bright details and displays dark scenes with still so much detail! My 2016 4K Bravia is nothing compared to this but that TV only accepted HDR signal, it still had an 8bit panel and no local dimming. I'm sooo damn happy with it, I feel like the "creators intent" really lives through this TV. Also Bravia Core content is literally as good as blu-rays!!!

At 7:09 the discussion is about the detail in the distance being sharper on the Sony (which I'm not sure I'm actually seeing) but what IS immediately noticeable is how the grass on the Sony looks to all be very close in color while the TCL's grass shows clear variation in the different lengths. The Sony also has better shadow detail in the shade of the closer trees.

I'd need to see them both while watching a movie. Qled and mini-leds sound more impressive than Bravia LCD, so that could sway people. I was about the buy the QM8, but BB was out of stock when I tried to order so I looked into the Sony X90L and Samsung QN90C. Dang, they all have amazing pictures, but the Samsung is $800 more, and I can't really see an advantage at this time. Both have bad viewing angles cause both are built on VA screens. Compare that with Samsung, where their higher end TVs are built on IPS(ADS) screens and have excellent viewing angles. Both TCL and Sony needs to start building their higher end sets on IPS screens. Dimming zones make up for IPS inherent low contrast which is why most Samsung high end non-OLED TVs are built on IPS.
