      TCL C845. Should be similar to the Q7. No C945 is being reported to arrive here in Singapore (SG). U8K, I suspect, will be the same downgraded crap from Hisense (SG) ... just like our downgraded local U8H we have here for 2022.

      Well you covered both Tv and the winner is QM8 lol better natural colors better peak brightness whiter whites , more dimming zones way more . upscaling at 240hz it’s got way lower input lag when video gaming . features are pretty sick you can put the target icon in the middle of the screen it’s got FPS mode which I really like the list goes on and on and on lol I think that’s enough good reasons to buy the QM8 . but I think the U8H is a beautiful tv still because I had it for two weeks, and I got to use it for gaming and for movies .it did quite well in both areas . But I do believe the QM8 is a better TV overall but I never got to use the U8K but it’s stats are way below the QM8 and I watched your video on both

      That TCL looks awesome, but I am still hesitating to buy it. Right now, I can get an open box LG C2-83 inch tv for 2700. The TCL 85 inch is 2500 at Best Buy. What are your thoughts.

    I’ve been pouring over UA-cam TV reviews this week and have to say I like yours best! Thoroughly informative and spoken in a way that even viewers new to todays TVs can understand. Great work, thanks! I’ve seen several reviewers indicate that their TCL developed an area of black lines, on the bottom of the right screen. Your reviews have convinced me that I still want a 65 inch qm8.Thanks again!

    This is the review I have been waiting for a while! Thank you for work and content. Very detailed and informative reviews. I personally like the Picture quality of the TCL QM8 over U8K but I agree with your assessment; they are both very impressive but are designed for different end users. IMO, QM8 is more for Movies, HDR/Dobly Vision Content as the U8K is aiming to be the best miniLED gaming TV without compromising. Which inadvertently also targets the gaming monitor community.
    I own the 65U8G in the living room, the TCL 55R646 for the bedroom, and 48LGC3 evo for my office/game room, I’m thinking I can hold off for next year’s competition to upgrade to a 75” for the living room!

    Great comparison! I’d almost definitely say QM8 for movies and shows, U8K for gaming, but not having local dimming control or a ATSC 3.0 tuner is just so lame. It still amazing to me how no TV has it all. Every TV is missing one or two things that another one has. If Samsung got Dolby Vision they would take the market. If Sony got good with gaming and lowered their prices a bit they would take the market. LG has come as close as you can get for having it all for performance and value but only IF you’re going OLED, and would be even better if they moved off of that outdated remote.

    I’m looking for a replacement for my 55” TCL R646, which I use as a pc monitor, as well as tv viewing. I really wish that TCL had made a 55” version of the QM8. So it looks as if the U8K may be my choice, especially as it has much better gaming features, and a lot more local dimming zones.

    I bought a Hisense U8K 75" TV about 2 weeks ago. Last week, the TV received an update that took about 30 minutes to load and install.
    On my 3 previous TVs, updates took between 2 and 5 minutes. Towards the end of the update on the Hisense, we were asked to close it and open it again to complete the update. After this huge update, I noticed that the TV had a better picture and more localized sound. I really like this TV. It's easy to set up.
    I suggest you wait for this update before testing the U8K. It would give future and current users a better idea of the quality of this TV.

    Great comparison. I want to point out a few things though. The TCL’s dimming zones are controlled by the local contrast setting which you will find under the brightness settings. If you want to have access to all the settings while gaming on the TCL you will have to turn off gaming mode. You will still have access to HDR, VRR and ALLM and the picture mode won’t be stuck on gaming mode you can change it to whatever you like.

      @@3DavidA12Gaming mode is for better latency so it’s best used for 1st person shooters or games that require fast inputs. However the difference when gaming mode is on vs when it’s off it’s not very different. If you want better latency and faster response times get a Pc. If you can’t afford a pc get a monitor and connect your ps5/Xbox series x or s to that monitor. Make sure the monitor supports 120 hertz. If you’re hoping to become a god playing Cod on a 65 inch tv it’s not going to happen. TVs usually have more latency and slower response times than PCs/monitors. I use this Tv for movies, playing single player games and UA-cam. If I want to have the best experience playing 1st person shooters or games where you need to think fast. I pull out the monitor 😈😈

    Ty for the review ! I’m leaning qm8 but am also considering the q7 and want a comparison of these two. Important things for me are affordability, 120hz, hdr and very good brightness and blacks without being oled. I’ve always liked TCL over the years and think I’m going to stick with them. I’m replacing a 6-7 year old Sony 75” that I bought used for $2500 about 5 years ago. I like the value one can get right now but don’t want to overdo the spend which puts me between q7 and qm8. This is a streaming workhorse with a little Xbox series x play. Also I’m hooked into a cheap Sony STR-DH590 receiver 5.1 with a 3.1 setup using KEF left center and right and a klipsch sub.

    Excellent Review sir! I was actually out looking for a 65" TV for my Bar/Lounge area of my home. My criteria: Overall solid PQ, mostly in a darker environment, although there are windows in there. Sound Quality was a BIG factor as I do not want to use a soundbar as I am hanging it and want to limit extra mounting and additional peripherals and Best Bang for my Buck. Initially a VERY helpful and knowledgeable salesman at Best Buy (who ironically is from Japan and Sony certified), when I gave him my criteria, showed me the TCL. It was very impressive! In fact, I was prepared to buy it. Unfortunately they had none new in box for sale. Not even for ordering online. A testimony to the popularity of this TV. I need the TV now for a big NEW YEARS EVE party we are hosting at my home. So at the latest, would be 2 days from now. He then said, you know what, we have a really nice Hisense that is super comparable. Although they were not side by side, when I watched content on the U8K, my eyes were just as impressed and I have really good vision without need for glasses. Although we did not test out the sound quality, on paper, the U8K clearly wins in this important area for me. Plus, it was new in the box ready to go. So I bought it for $900 (same price as the QM8).
    I also read a detailed review on RTINGS that I have trusted for many years. They pointed out that the U8K was better out of the box without calibration. That is VERY appealing to me as well. They also have it edging out the TCL very slightly. Splitting hairs really.
    I do know a thing or two about TV.s and great PQ as I currently own a Sony BRAVIA XR X95K and a Epson 5050UB in my Home Theater showing on a 135" Silver Screen,

    My son has last years TCL C835 & my friend has the 8K TCL X925 from 2 years ago & they both have full access to local dimming control off, low, medium & high. I am sure the 2023 range will too. If VRR & ALLM mode is on inside tv then you won't see local dimming options so temp turn them off & you'll suddenly have access to them. Your TCL is probably still in ALLM & VRR Game mode. Also, in audio there should be a Dynamic Sound option, turn it on and the TV comes to life. (The other sound options don't come close)

      Yeah honestly this felt like a really haphazard, and a bit disappointing. I don’t think the tcl was calibrated at the time of filming, atleast the camera did not make it look so, and the little things like having the tv in one of the worst audio settings when comparing audio, or not mentioning that if you don’t use game mode you magically have all of the settings at your fingertip (including vrr STILL and allm.

      @euphorichaggis8486 11 місяців тому +1

      Actually, I stand corrected my son who owns a TCL said its because of ALLM being on which makes you not see the full local dimming features showing up on the TCL QM8 TV. Turn ALLM and VRR off inside the TV and you will suddenly see the full features of local dimming (off, low, medium, and high). Put the TV into movie picture mode first and choose to apply to all inputs after you choose what you want then and only then turn back on ALLM & VRR inside TV menu. Turn audio into dynamic for the best audio. Also you can tweak the sub levels too inside the TCL, also surround and treble etc. Hope this helps. Have a look and report back to all of us.

  • @michaelzoran
    @michaelzoran 9 місяців тому +1

    TechSteve, at 2:58 you do an excellent demonstration that shows the TCL QM8 has excellent smoothness with "Motion" that apparently has virtually no Stuttering or Juddering. However, the "Motion" test clearly shows problems with the Hisense U8K. The problems with "Stuttering" when watching Blu-ray movies at 24 frames per second were ultimately the reason I did not buy the U8H in 2022. Reviews have said the U8K has superior "Processing," especially when playing low-bitrate problems and reducing "Posterization." The "Posterization" was a severe problem with the U8H, and comparisons show the "Posterization" is actually an area the U8K is noticeably superior to the QM8. But, as far as the 1080p Blu-ray movies running at 24 frames per second, do you know if the U8K and QM8 experience these problems with "Stuttering" and "Juddering"? In one of your reviews and comparison, you mentioned a Sony TV sold at a similar price has fewer problems with "Stuttering" than these TVs. This isn't a surprise, considering it was Sony that came up with the idea of movies running at 24 frames per second. But when I looked up the Sony TV you mentioned, the Sony TV has "Full Array" lighting; however, the Sony TV did not have the more advanced "Mini-LED" Lighting.

      @@ricome169, no it isn't. I've personally seen both on display right next to each other at Best Buy. The blacks of the U8K and QM8 are far superior to the X90L. The U8K and QM8 also get far brighter than the X90L. The QM8 has the most color accuracy out of the box. However, the U8K has by far the most manual adjustment settings, which means if you take the time to set things up properly you do in fact get the best color accuracy of all three TV sets. The 75" version of the U8K is also fundamentally different from all of them. The 75" U8K has an IPS monitor - which gives it excellent viewing angles. The Sony X90L and TCL QM8 (and the U8K 65" and 55") use VA panels and have poor viewing angles. The 75" U8K uses a combination of Mini-LED and IPS, which gives it both excellent blacks and excellent viewing angles.

    Having watched this comparison in May 2024 due to both models now been on offer
    as the new version arrive for me the TCL would be better for the content that i watch.
    I never play games and i have a good seperates system for Dolby Atmos and DTS.
    The issue i have with Hisense is that the versions sold here in the UK are not the same
    spec as the USA ones.
    The major difference is the o/s that they use, we get their own Vidaa instead of
    Android / Google and this makes the Hisense a no go, you cant add or remove apps
    as you can with Google.
    Thankfully TCL stick with Google so this swings it for me.
    Thanks for the best comparison that i have found on UA-cam.
