I understand, a song like this makes you want to go back and visit that time again. First loves, futures unrevealed, and how it felt to be young and free.
Having left home at a young age from an abusive house in 1985 and moving overseas, I felt alone and invisible. These guys and their music spoke to me and acknowledged my pain. "King's Cross", in particular, made me realize the reality of my situation - that I would never be loved at home, and that I couldn't go back. At least, I knew that I was not alone in the world, and that there were others who were feeling the same way. I was 18. I'm 56 now, and I will be forever grateful for their music. Thank you Neil and Chris❤
It did get into the Top 20 in the UK in March/April 1986,as the follow-up to the number 1 hit West End Girls. At the time the TV news and press were full of the engagement of Randy Andy and Fergie, which is bound to be seen in a completely different light now to how it was then in the light of recent scandals.
@@csb7376 True. The next single they put out was Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money) that summer, and I'm about to play that one on the gradual chronological crawl through the 80s I'm on. It reached number 11 in June 1986,but they trumped that by getting to number 8 for two weeks in mid-to-late October with Suburbia.
@@rjjcms1 Yeah, although I I was obviously aware of them after West End Girls, it was Suburbia that really made me follow them more closely. That, and In The Night, or The Clothes Show theme as we all knew it at school.
I am 52 , now and I would say that the 80's sound was defined by a few voices, one of which is the PSB....original, dreamy and melodic with just the right blend of harmonies and technologically influenced loops. It defined a generation and an era. I still love listening to them every week. earlier stuff is the best!
Love Comes Quickly was released as a single after the album was released, and I think a lot of people had already bought the album, so didn't bother to buy the single. It did do extremely well in the 12 inch vinyl charts however, and there was also a limited edition released featuring a huge, oversized label - which I'm lucky enough to own :D
Because the 80s was THE time for music, the fact that it only hit 19 should speak volumes about the quality of music that was being pumped out at the time
Anyone 50 and over had a good decade in the 80s. No mobiles as such but everyone knew where everyone was. No Internet , good music ,big hair ,mullets and good vibes. Total opposite of today.
When West End Girl first came out, I immediately fell in love with this genius SynthPop duo. It was so fresh and different. When they released Love Comes Quickly as the second single, I knew I would be a fan. And I’ve been listening to them, all their releases since. They have too many masterpieces to name, but this will have to be my favourite. It’s just perfect. The trumpet or clarinet sound towards the end, which is more prominent in the 12” version, was hauntingly beautiful. Listening to it now more than 35 years later, it’s almost heart-achingly nostalgic. Pet Shop Boys, it’s been a pleasurable and memorable musical journey ❤
You cannot compare todays music to the 80's, just something about how they put their music together back then was pure, smooth and dead on point . PSB were musical geniuses. Their music is much better than what's out there today. Their music will live on forever.
I just found out it's saxophone played by none other than Andy Mackay from Roxy Music. Wow and all the years I knew this track I didn't know he had part in this one.

One of my favourite song. I was a kid back then…..now I’m already 49 in 2024 and I still love this song though! Brings me back a lot of my childhood memories……
This song in particular reminds me of when I met my best friend, Andy. Who then passed away from Leukemia in early 96. Him and his sister taught me to really appreciate PSB. Been a huge fan ever since.
His choir boy falsetto really highlights this very well written song. I love the sequencer synths. I always like synth pop, post punk and melodic metal the best.
It's the mix of strong songwriting and exciting new sampling sounds and technology. It's the best of the past and the promise of a bright future, in one package, without sounding calculated, like todays music. Nothing will ever sound the same again. At least not for me.
Music and lyrics are both kinda haunting. You can tell there's this sort of paradoxically-threatening-yet-hopeful aura to the lyrics... It's a warning: Sooner or later, this happens to everyone. Love comes quickly whatever you do, you can't stop falling. But it's also wishful thinking: Sooner or later, this happens to everyone. Love comes quickly whatever you do, you can't stop falling. The melody slightly changes whenever they want to convey one or another. Such a beautiful track.
I met Neil whilst serving in the Royal Military Police in Chichester in 1989, I was on a course at our Training centre there. He had been to a show at The Chichester Festival Theatre. He was the perfect gentleman. It was a pleasure to meet him and talk to him. Back in Germany all my platoon had the Introspective CD. I told him so. Believe me, he is a lovely unassuming man he has time for people. Thank you Neil for not destroying my illusion of you. I still love your music
I just turned 44 in December. Grew up the first 10 years of my life in the 80's and absolutely love and can't do more than a day without dome good 80's melodies. Pet Shop Boys had excellent vibes and videos that were great echoes of what the 80s represented.

+jcp210289 I feel that sort of comfort too when listening to it. I hope the girl that i want will come to me. This is where this song meets Depeche Mode's "It's No Good".The lyrics goes like: "I'm gonna take my time I have all the time in the world To make you mine It is written in the stars above"... Destiny gotta make those songs become true for me! And every one else :)
I first heard this when it charted... I think that was around spring 1986. The weather was still chilly but sunny, and these lyrics came drifting out of my radio. Loved it then. Love it now.

Love how Neil's voice soars on the lyric! A forgotten classic.
I agree! At first I wasn't sure that was HIM singing that part so glad you confirmed it. I love his voice! It's so sweet and gentle.
YES. So happy someone else noticed this. Literally my favorite part of the song.
I used to think it was “you can fly away to the end of Hawaii” lol
😉
Great song from the brilliant pet shop boys. Reminds me how great it was being a teenager in the 80s ♥️.
You're absolutely right, we were fortunate to have some of the greatest music during the 80s.
Loved it great music, great movies and you could leave your front door open all day

So true! I feel so nostalgic for that time of my life and feel so blessed to have experienced it.
Just when you least expect it, just what you least expect.....PSB ruled the 80s like no others....still great in 2016.
I agree.
Ronald Schwartz they were good times for me, being a teenager back then, love was always around. Sorry but when you hit your 40's you realise that love is for young fools and poets. Sorry people, that's just how it is unless your doing it financially. Cheers people.
TheGodParticle........wise words....you have to make your own dreams and achievements come true and enjoy it on your own, before you get taken advantage by some crazy so called , I love you..person....(the devil never sleeps ).I have seen that happening to a lot of people......be careful....very careful....
Still great in 2017.......
Ronald Schwartz Also my favorite lines from the lyrics. Just brilliant!
One of my favourite song. I was a kid back then…..now I’m already 49 in 2024 and I still love this song though! Brings me back a lot of my childhood memories……
Masterpiece. Still in 2024.❤
I am obsessed with this amazing song!! ❤ My favorite from THEE PET SHOP BOYS!!🥰
Haunting brilliant! Still gives me goosebumps! Goes right to the heart!
This song in particular reminds me of when I met my best friend, Andy. Who then passed away from Leukemia in early 96. Him and his sister taught me to really appreciate PSB. Been a huge fan ever since.
Sounds sad.
I'm very sorry to hear that

THIS FUSION ON ELECTRONIC MUSIC WHIT A POP MUSIC IS AMAZING, AWSOME
Still sounds good in 2022!!!
Better than most actuall stuff
Yes listening since 1988....
Class act.
Going to sound good, when we're all dead ha ha.
Better than 2022
Masterpiece.
I´ll buy you a beer six pack for that comment man.
One of their best songs. Far too good to be left as an album track, yet far too good for the charts. It stands alone as a great 80's anthem.
Top elettronica!! Dal 1988 li adoro
This song should have been as big as "West End Girls".
West End Girls is my favorite song of all time!
WEST END GIRLS R GREAT TOO
Think it should have been bigger!
West end girls is overrated, poor tune.
SiiliViin keep taking your meds

So blessed and privileged to been there then and listened to classic 80s tunes like this then as I still do now, simply brilliant.

The Best song of the album Please
Probably PSB's best song, awesome!!!
Just a PURE classic
A masterpiece of a video regardless of what the director or others might think. It turned out awesome and so fitting with the song. Love Comes Quickly is my favorite Pet Shop Boys song!
MrBrightWave hi me too
MrBrightWave me too, reminds me of my second love and a misspent youth. Cheers
A truly beautiful song and video #ART
Love this track. 👌 👍 👏
Totally agree.
My God! There is SO much talent that comes from the British islands and surrounding ones like Ireland too! Just makes me feel lucky to be here to discover it.
This is their best song! Love it!
Me too ♥
Also for me the best song of the two. I hear it again and again ....
Love it toooo
*One* of their best.
I second that!
I remember this song gave me strength after my first break up. I remember getting a sense of comfort listening to this song. Such a beautiful song.
+jcp210289 I feel that sort of comfort too when listening to it. I hope the girl that i want will come to me. This is where this song meets Depeche Mode's "It's No Good".The lyrics goes like:
"I'm gonna take my time
I have all the time in the world
To make you mine
It is written in the stars above"...
Destiny gotta make those songs become true for me! And every one else :)
the album PLEASE its the top representation of the 80s on its very top xpression!!!
One of the most haunting and beautiful songs of the time. I just saw PSB play this live and it was so hypnotic.
I first heard this when it charted... I think that was around spring 1986. The weather was still chilly but sunny, and these lyrics came drifting out of my radio. Loved it then. Love it now.
Pensa numa música maravilhosa, toca até a alma ♥️
