Yes we are. I was born 1972, so I was lucky to experience society of the 60's and 70's before really getting into the 80's. The 80's were great in so many ways, unfortunately I have VERY BAD memories of growing up (bullying) and family problems. One of my ways of escaping from the pain back then was listening to the music. My husband happens to be from England, he finds it amusing here in the US that I've for a long time been into European and UK music, while he's been into American music lol.
I've also lost my mother to cancer. Then my 2 brothers age 49 and 51. May they R.I.P. I still miss them everyday. Grievances are difficult but believe me, time is a great healer. But living is part of losing. God bless you. x.

I was at school in India when I became a fan of PET SHOP BOYS and all things English. every time I hear these songs, make me feel very proud of the fact of fulfilling my boyhood dream of visiting London once in a life time.!! 😀 Now have lived in London for 20 years 😋🤣🤣😀❤️
The Pet Shop Boys are an example of music, in any genre, at it's absolute finest. Their debut where this song is from is simply outstanding for a band's first record, and this song just smokes. I love the juxtaposition between the breezy and bright main keyboard melody/chorus, and the rest of the song which is much more dramatic and intense sounding. Chris and Neil are practically in a league of their own, when it comes to synth-pop, love them so much.
From 0.21 until the 'explosion' at 1:14 and then the piano in combination with the bass & beat kicks in ... What an instrumental build-up with a 'kick-ass' follow-up - this must indeed be the 80s - unforgettable times ...
Fell in love with PSB as an undergrad at University at Newcastle, and then courted my girl to PSB. 30 years later… still in love. My daughters love PSB, too. Such good music!
80s music by far is the best and PSB is one of them. very fortunate to be there. Brings back all the memories in high school, still listening to them till today with smiles......even my kids salute to 80s music agrees its better than current music ❤
Just been to their concert in Cork Ireland last week . I love love love the PSB . It was the best night of my life and would highly recommend going to their gigs . I'm 53 now and my body was sore afterwards but well worth it 💕

I grew up in the eighties but never really got into the Pet Shop Boys. Now, 40 years later, in 2024, I can't stop playing them. This is definitely a favourite.
I used to rewind this cassette tape and play this song over and over in my headphones with my walkman when I was just a wee one. This is at the beginning of the birth of real electronic music which I still love so very much today. This song like so many other 80's songs was real poetry and got you thinking. Wondering exactly what message they were trying to convey.
So....what is the message that is being pushed onto people who listen to this song? What race of people comes up in your mind when you hear the word suburbs/suburbia?
This brings back so much... 15 years old when this was out... Running around the council estate in Glasgow... Dressed head to toe in Benetton and Adidas gazelles.. We didn't have much but eachother... Great great times man..

I loved this song so much as a teenager. I used to work on the dock in Portsmouth and there was a bar we’d go to after a shift to play pool, it had a video juke box. I would always play this at least once. I loved the imagery of Neil Tennant in a cowboy hat and shades. I’ve always loved that look, I’m a big fan of the movie Midnight Cowboy too. My early teenage years were formed listening to the likes of Haysi Fantaysee, Yazoo, Depeche Mode, Trio, OMD, Erasure etc. Then all of that morphed into acid house and different forms of dance music from piano based stuff, to Dutch Hardcore, to Acid House, to break beat, jungle and drum and bass. I became a huge fan of DJ SS and Easygroove (technodread), Mickey Finn and Slipmatt and an Australian breakbeat DJ called Greg Packer. Then when I moved north I got into Wigan Pier and Cricketers etc. DJ Ben Trengove and MC efeezee. I’ve probably done at the very least 7 or 8 thousand acid trips, a ton of whizz and way too much cocaine and ecstasy. Eventually I went travelling in South East Asia and I came upon a Hindu temple in Bali. I began to speak to a monk who spoke perfect English about the life I’d left behind and he changed my life. Over the space of a year he taught me so much, eventually he let me help clean the temple then he let me do it on my own. Doing that is considered an act of worship. It really changed me. From there I went to Australia where I have dual citizenship and began working on sheering teams. That was such hard work. We would be working in the Aussie summer where heat got up to 50° C andd inside the corrugated steel shed the heat would be even higher. I saw six foot 8 Maoris being dragged out unconscious from dehydration and heat stroke. It was brutal work. Most of the shearers would take speed to help them shear more sheep during their shift and at night they’d take OxyContin and MS Contin for the pain. I worked four seasons trying to save up enough to tour south east Asia again, but I could never do it. I’d work two weeks in the sheds then we’d come down to Perth and I’d spend all my money gambling and on women and booze. I did eventually save up enough to go back to Bali and Vietnam etc. I absolutely love that part of the world………seems I’ve transgressed a whole load. Pardon me.
@@AlfredoJacome I sense you are being sarcastic. I wouldn’t say sarcasm was the highest form of art but it’s an art of sorts. So good for you for using it to put me in my place. I know on UA-cam you’re not really meant to leave a comment longer than maybe ten words. Oops I’ve broken the rule again.

Such a great bit of social commentary. Suburbia is hell; many of the more bizarre crimes happen there; and the false feeling of security that people have, can be easily exploited by predators. In the 80's people were flying high, and despite the plethora of propaganda, and fear mongering, lots of people were getting molested because nobody was watching. (Conversely, there was only one case of Halloween candy intended to harm, and it was a father who tampered with the candy! Yet, it was common practice to get your candy X-rayed; heresay and gossip are dangerous and extremely uncouth.)
Tab, then diet coke, coupled with many secrets and lies, were the paucity of substance that made the 80's. Reganomics, that is the origin of the miserable financial climate we experience now. I digress, great song by the phenomenal "Pet Shop Boys", makes me feel old, however. They were ahead of their time in many ways.
The fringe of the 80's, though, and the punk/pop marriage that gave us PSB, in all their brilliance, is still unparalleled.

To break the suburban spell
Let's take a ride, and run with the dogs tonight

Break the window by the town hall
Listen, the siren screams
There in the distance, like a roll call
Of all the suburban dreams
Let's take a ride, and run with the dogs tonight

❤This song Chris is absolutely fantastic as always anything Chris does he is absolutely fantastic at and Neils voice is so sweet these guys are unbeatable.. Absolutely ❤em
Loving it again ❤❤
I was at school in India when I became a fan of PET SHOP BOYS and all things English. every time I hear these songs, make me feel very proud of the fact of fulfilling my boyhood dream of visiting London once in a life time.!! 😀 Now have lived in London for 20 years 😋🤣🤣😀❤️
So you are one of the people destroying england. Go home
Synth-pop at it's best - the PSB produced one catchy recording after another and Suburbia is right up there with their best work.
2023 PETSHOP BOYS is still Legendary!
Grew up listening the pet shop boys.
Brilliant...just sheer brilliance.
Awesome Track!!!
Fell in love with PSB as an undergrad at University at Newcastle, and then courted my girl to PSB. 30 years later… still in love. My daughters love PSB, too. Such good music!
What an intro!!!! Lovely 🏵️
Stays like a hook in my mind since the 80's
80s music by far is the best and PSB is one of them. very fortunate to be there. Brings back all the memories in high school, still listening to them till today with smiles......even my kids salute to 80s music agrees its better than current music ❤
lovely 80´s, from argentina, thank you guys PSB rules!!!!
😊Nothing will ever beat that synth hook..... Timeless thanks PSB
So lucky to have lived my teenage days in the 80s , theese songs remind them
Just been to their concert in Cork Ireland last week . I love love love the PSB . It was the best night of my life and would highly recommend going to their gigs . I'm 53 now and my body was sore afterwards but well worth it 💕
It really does something to one's soul,80's music.I think people of all ages experience that.just listen to how this track is composed....excellent.
+Saber Chamaoui Inteng, do you think 80's music was better constructed and composed then is often given credit for...?
Pet Shop Boys my fav.boy band in 80's❤️❤️❤️
AM just blown away, Music from that era was everything good..
I grew up in the eighties but never really got into the Pet Shop Boys. Now, 40 years later, in 2024, I can't stop playing them. This is definitely a favourite.
Wonderful intro 🎵🎶
I used to rewind this cassette tape and play this song over and over in my headphones with my walkman when I was just a wee one. This is at the beginning of the birth of real electronic music which I still love so very much today. This song like so many other 80's songs was real poetry and got you thinking. Wondering exactly what message they were trying to convey.
So....what is the message that is being pushed onto people who listen to this song?
What race of people comes up in your mind when you hear the word suburbs/suburbia?
Potato chips
Listen jew, you know that it's the white race that comes to mind when suburbia.
Do a fucking song about JEWISH surburbia.
+SDRockman maybe that's why I love the song because I love the Jewish people. You are an idiot.
SDRockman what
So, so good. The drum roll intro at 1:13 is astonishing.

Pardon me.
GREAT !!!
GOOD FOR YOU AND SO MANY GUYS !
GOD BLESS !!!
