GREAT idea of yours and easy to follow video too. Here is an enhancement that uses only 1 tie wrap per wheel. My kitchenaid had three broken wheels! Instead of two tie wraps lace one tie wrap out the the center of wheel axle then around the wheel rim so the tie wrap lays so that it encircles the broken pin and holds the wheel to the tray/axel. The wheel spins nicely and the wheel jiggles but does not fall off. My tie wraps were slightly wider than in the video and that may be why they fit snug and stay horizontal when in use. For image, go to 2:16 of your video and lace the tie wrap out the axel then over the rim to encircle the broken pin. Hope this helps.

Man, just when I thought I was the unofficial king of zip ties I happened to pull this up. I was about to order and replace these for the second dang time this year. I'm going to give this a try for a week or so with the old ones as they are not broken, yet...in fact, it's the stupid plastic bracket piece that keeps breaking so this may take some pressure off of it as well. The problem is that regardless of adjustment, there is just too much play and we've even been super easy on the rack since replacing all of this already. Have a good one sir.

This is awesome, thank you for posting this! I've barely gone for 6 months without having to fix something on my very expensive Kenmore Elite Dishwasher that I WILL soon be replacing. It recently went out of warranty, so now I'm on my own. This fix will hold me out long enough to research and find a better option.

Just wanted to say that this repair actually holds quite well. I had a similar problem and did something similar using one zip tie fished up through the center and around the wheel and it held for for a few weeks (more than a month actually) until the plastic wheel tabs broke off completely.

Has anyone tried this and how long did this last? Zip ties are pretty strong and durable in general and this seems like a really quick, easy and cheap fix.

The repair can last a good amount of time. I do recommend that this not be a permanent fix. The zip ties will grow brittle over time and break but if need be you can redo the zip ties when needed.

Whirlpool will send you the replacement adjustor racks for free. Too many complaints about the top rack breaking.

You are right Sarah, I was able to get a replacement, but it took a while for the part to come in. The repair was able to buy me some time until the new part came in. In my 4 member family dishes can pile up pretty quick! :-)
