    I hope projectors get good enough to be considered more mainstream, so there’s even more and more competition. There’s a lot of products out there but it is somewhat niche so the prices are still really high for what’s available. I have been considering a projector for years and just bit the bullet this year but my budget kept increasing even though I only wanted a VERY casual projector. This looks so awesome, and it’s cool to see really big name brands are making amazing projectors.

      Projectors are cheaper than TVs for what they offer. And they've been good enough to go mainstream for over a decade - but they won't go mainstream because they're not as user-friendly.
      4k/120hz ones are difficult to shop for, but 1080p/120Hz can look amazing at huge image sizes (my #Ptax200 720p used to look incredible at >6ft wide, and it was made in 2008).

      Right!...I have a black screen and I was leaning towards the Benq V7050i...but I'm thinking with a darker screen the brightness Epson provides might match perfectly...15inch throw for 120inch is killing me though...

    Finally! Much awaited, though I bought my LS500 and thought of returning it if your review rated it bad but after a few days of use I realised it's a performer like none other I trialed. The ease of use, setup, the image quality are fantabulous. I know the LG OS is best when it comes to use but Android TV is as good. is The only downside I see is the distance from the wall for a 120' image. And yeah, I've been projecting on a wall till now and it looks amazing, wonder what an ALR screen can do when I get one. Though you mentioned a light output > 80, in the night time I've mostly viewed it at the minimum 50 and that made the fan noise literally unnoticeable.
    For the sound, as even the Epson official ad says hook up your own speakers so I got an JBL 310 to pair with it and then played The Dark Knight - my my I had a theatre in my living room! Though the projector sound is okay for a small room around 100in x 100in - definitely speakers are recommended if you'd like to immerse in the viewing experience.
    The only other UST projector I liked better than Epson LS500 was Samsung LSP9T but unfortunately the price was too high.
    I'd wait for your comparison video but from the ranking perspective and my trial with all the other projectors I'd rank them as below:
    1. Samsung LSP9T (the best of the best)
    2. Epson LS500
    3. BenQ v6050
    4. LG HU85LA
    5. Optoma P2 (simply loses to LG because of it's super clunky OS)
    and yeah Vava and Hisense are not anywhere near these, they're just Chinese crap

    • @rajatm
      @rajatm 3 роки тому +1

      UPDATE: The projector picture was stunning but the projector has issues with sound output - it's gone, even after connecting AUX/HDMI to external output. The sound is dead. Had to return it unfortunately as Epson provided no support.

      @rajatm 3 роки тому +1

      @@Fireavatar33 I'd say Samsung LSP9T remains the top with the sound, picture quality, fantastic interface. Epson LS-500 is certainly the top when it comes to cost and features offered, I however went for the 1080p Epson LS-300 after the defective LS-500 and I am enjoying it to the core just projecting on the wall, and with the inbuilt yamaha speakers.

    as someone who daily drives the Epson HC 3800 projector as a living room TV, that brightness is a major deal for me. I will take the resolution hit every day if it means being able to watch under daylight conditions. I am surprised that the great placement/zoom flexibility typical of their long throws did not translate to the UST models. I guess it's the nature of the technology.

    • @jonnyelpoiss7

      I also drive the HC 3800, i’d like more luminosity as well, but for 2300$ it’s not worth it since the HC 3800 has almost every other feature the ls500 can offer. I’d wait a little bit.

Hooked my Xbox series X up to it and playing on that size of a screen with low input lag is amazing! The big downfall is the distance from projector. Spent days trying to find the perfect tv stand for it. They have some high end ones specifically for it but price tag is outrageous. I’d recommend this projector. Keep up good work!

    Good review! Love the fact that It fits right in front of the projection screen, it’s 4000 lumens and has 3 hdmi port. That being said, at 4800$ CAD, i’ll stick with the epson home cinema 3800 which has all the other spec this one have and no latency while playing on ps5 and that has hdmi 2.0 18gb just like this one. For 2300$ CAD cheaper, it’s a way better deal than the ls500. I would have expected at least hdmi 2.1, better sound and native 4k at this price, 1000 more lumens cant justify that price tag. so i’ll just stay with the home cinema 3800 mounted to my ceiling until they release one with upgraded feature that justify the price.

    I have two objections against LCD projection,
    1. color shift after time, yes LCD projector will not look the same after few years as it was new and colors degrade.
    2. the dynamic contrast is very bad when compared to DLP, we are not talking about deepest black and brightest white, we are talking about low scale of shadows and highlights close to maximum and minimum. This is the reason why you dont see much of information in dark shadow areas on LCD projectors, and same bad sky projections. This is where DLP shutters the LCD projection.
    and since the introduction of multicolored color wheels in DLP, the rainbow effect is gone and I absolutely prefer the DLP over LCD projection.

    Hi Chris! Awesome review as always. I'm thinking about purchasing my first UST and I'm chosing between the Epson LS500 and the BenQ V7050i. In Sweden I can get them for the same price, roughly 2600 USD. My living room is bright during the day, therefore I'm thinking about getting the LS500 with its superior output. My first question is whether 4000 ANSI lumen and 2500 make a huge difference? I mean is it linear? Is the Epson really 60% brighter? Do you think the 2500 Lumen from the BenQ will be enough with a good ALR screen? Unless there is a huge difference in brightness I'm thinking about getting the BenQ since it has way better throw ratio. Thanks / Magnus

    what projector would you recommend for in an apartment under $1700 usd?im looking for something that going to look very good with colour and black as well as being bright(i'm coming from OLED/QLED TVS so something similar) I think I want 3lcd and a true 4k and smart functions/speakers aren't important, there isn't to much light where it would go altho there could be some shining through a window at the bottom.
    also,do I need an alr screen or can I just project onto a wall/get the wall painted a cretial colour or way?

  • @thcyprus
    @thcyprus 3 роки тому

    When you can get an 85/86" 4K TV for under $2000, I don't think it is worth paying more than twice as much for a projector + screen at 100". The main aim of UST projectors should be 120"+ but only the LG and Samsung can get that size from a reasonable distance. The rest need to be too far from the screen to project a 120" image. I think this should be a major factor when comparing UST projectors, and not just Picture Quality.

    • @ChrisMajestic

      Going from 85 to 100 is a HUGE difference. I do agree that the aim should be 120 inch though.
