We have the LS500 in black. The picture quality is pretty darn good. The only drawback is we wouldn't call it an "ultra short throw" projector since it had to be around 24 inches from the 100 inch screen in our theater room.
We looked at several other short throw projectors that required less distance, but didn't think the picture quality would be as good.

The printer was a bit complicated to hook up ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 but it does the job very efficiently. I like the ink wells versus the ink cartages that cost an arm and a leg. It prints quickly and the quality is excellent. It shuts off when not in use, so you have to remember to turn it on. Overall, it exceeds my expectations. I'll update my review in a couple of months.

This is a great review, and it had almost convinced me to buy it (even though I had intended to build my own screen which wouldve cost about $100 versus the $1000 premium Epson is charging for including one you have to build yourself anyway)... But the need for a 3 foot deep stand in front of the screen is a total killer. Due to the layout of the room I just would not be able to make that work. But I'm still looking and still doing homework, so you have earned a new subscriber! Thanks again!

thanks for the review, also the written one in your link. i have two questions:
    1. can this be ceiling mounted?
    2. how would the picture look if you expand the screen to 150inch?
(note in Europe where I'm based you can buy the projector without the ALR screen)

    • @originaltrilogy1

Yes it can be ceiling mounted. You cannot expand the screen to 150inch, the optics aren't correctly setup for it. You can go to 130" and with the right screen it is still plenty bright.

For UST you'll need an ALR screen for best results.
Of course you can project on a wall or a sheet. Yet because UST projects typically from the bottom of the screen, you'll want ambient light rejection otherwise the image will look washed out.
      Enjoy.

I took a notice about contrast, you wouldn't recommend this projector for completely dark room mainly watching movies/tv series? I'm trying to avoid lamp projectors as much as i can for my first projector.

    • @ProjectorCentralUSA
      @ProjectorCentralUSA  3 роки тому +1

You can absolutely watch in a dark room and have a great and immersive home theater experience with this projector. But for a dark-room theater setup where you have controlled light and don't need this projector's bright light output, you'll end up not using a lot of its reserves and sacrificing black level and contrast performance compared with some less expensive lamp-based models.

Coming from a 65" OLED, how good is the image going to look? I'm worried about the black levels, but tempted by going to 120". Also thinking about the Epson 9400.

I have the a 65” lg Oled downstairs and the Epson LS500 upstairs in a semi dedicated cinema room with a cheap eBay 120” grey screen. I was in the same boat thinking will I hate it compared to the flawlessness of the oled? Short answer…No, I absolutely love it. Just accept the black levels won’t be as good but the sheer size of it, brightness and image quality is worth it. Prefer the oled for gaming but if I start watching anything on the oled that’s more than half hour long I’ll turn it off and watch it on the projector. To add to that I’ve just ordered an ALR screen which should be used with UST’s anyway. So looking forward to even better contrast next week. Hopefully this helps

@@tombrady4942 I've been running mine now with an ALR screen for a couple of months, and it is great and we moved the 65" Panasonic OLED out to the garage/rumpus room. The colour and detail is stunning, it doesn't get completely to black but the impact of the brighter HDR is really worth it.

  • @chagog470

1080p was developed in approximately 2000. It's 2021 and we are bragging about 1080p? Pixel shifting is a bonus only at 8k. 1080p is ridiculous. Signed frustrated epson projector buyer. I may buy a jvc nx9 if I have to wait too much longer. Nx9 8k pixel shifting is 2 years old btw.

@@chagog470 It reduces the screen door effect considerably. It's not 'true' 4K, but all 4K content is compressed and not 'true' 4K anyway. Side by side with the Sony true 4K projector, I can't see any difference in detail levels in movies. Put up a computer desktop and sure, the difference is clear, but with photos and movies, it's very hard to tell unless you freeze frame and get your nose up against the wall.

The significant brightness of the LS500's brightest mode (4,000 lumens) along with the ability to fine-tune the colors in the 3D image is what made the 3D experience so good. So it's not really about the throw of the lens or the format, or even the laser engine vs a bulb, but mainly just about the the brightness, generally decent out of box color, and the ability to tune the picture to make it even better.

It's not a bulb, it's a sealed laser diode setup, and it doesn't look replaceable by the end user. 20,000 hours, even with 8 hours use a day is around 7 years. By then you probably would be wanting to upgrade. It is a waste, but 7-10 years isn't bad, and quite possibly the other electronics will fail before the light source does.
