The 2022 Genesis GV70 2.5T Is A Superior Bargain Priced Luxury SUV
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 лют 2022
- The #GenesisGV70 was a much needed new luxury SUV for Hyundai's luxury division. Last year, we tested the fully loaded #Genesis #GV70 Sport Prestige with the twin-turbo V6 engine. This week, the #GV70Advance with the base 2.5L turbo engine making 300 HP serves as a more affordable entry into Genesis's entry-level SUV lineup. It packs a ton of tech, features, and luxury into a very affordable package.

Genesis proves you don't need to spend extra money on the larger 3.5L twin-turbo V6. The base 2.5T engine will still sprint to 60 in under 6 seconds and by choosing the smaller engine, you'll be able to pocket $12,000 in your wallet because it starts at just over $41,000. Would you guys go for the V6 or just stick with the turbo 4-cylinder?

Is it quick than RDX?
@@ldxk They're about the same. Our quickest time in the 2022 RDX was 5.71 seconds, this GV70 2.5T did it in 5.69 seconds.
This is a perfect vehicle. Perfect size, speed, looks.
My mother's Valentine's Day present is a GV70 Select 2.5T blue/black. Supposed to be getting it this week, so excited to show her all the cool features.
Genesis make such beautiful and well- balanced vehicles. I love the big three from Germany, but Genesis is really doing something special here for a reasonable price. Awesome video Sofyan!
Sofyan, you usually get these long term tests for at least a week, right? You seem to like ambient lighting, but you never show it to us when it's dark. If the vehicle is parked at your house/apt, can you do quick videos of it in dark and then edit it in? You don't have to drive it, but if you spend time explaining it, it would be nice to actually see that.
Genesis is the most creative out there while designing wheels ❤
Rarely do I hear you sound so impressed with a car so if you're impressed with it, it must be damn good! Thanks for the comprehensive review.
I owned the 2.5T Advanced Trim Black/Havana Brown and I couldn't be happier. It has so many options, it is fast and ride is so smooth, nice looking Crossover and it is different then anything you see on the road. It is truly a luxury car and sporty at the same time. I compared to other Luxury SUV and on my opinion it beats every one of them on style and price.
Stay warm Sofyan! I found that the 2.5T is the way to go for most people :) Great work as always.
Thanks, Kirk! Hope you're enjoying all that warmth and sunshine down in Florida! Hope to see you at an upcoming event soon! :)

I have been driving G80's for the last 10 yrs and decided to swap mine for the same vehicle you tested and I love it! Looked at Lexus, Acura and BMW and for the money this car just takes the cake. That was a great review by the way!!
These Genesis cars are pretty. I love that the crease where the hood and fender meet goes all the way to the rear. It makes a line from the headlight to the tail light. Those wheels are cool.
I live in downtown Toronto and would never use the V6 so I bought the 2.5T Sport Prestige, LOVE IT.

Hi Randy, I'm looking into buying this 2022-23 or 3.5tt if I can afford it. How's it holding up? Been reading lots on Genesis fan forum.. Kinda scared for long term reliability. Any rear differential issues for you? Love my bulletproof 2013 Acura TL but I'm ready for this step up. Also in the GTA.
Hey Sofyan & team,
The GV70 offers a wide variety of modes for the driver to enjoy.
As I approach 60 yrs old (and I'm a bit of a car guy) I totally love the luxury & comfort side of vehicles BUT also what to turn it up when I can. This GV70 3.5TT should really be about $20-$50K higher priced. It simply does everything really well and is 2nd to none is this segment when it comes to ride quality, comfortness, quietness all while surrounding the occupants with massive luxury features.
It is called the baby Bentayga for many reasons. It is so quiet & refined when you want it to be - When you're stuck in traffic or going no where fast. My wife asked me if it was an EV as it was so quiet. Those double paned windows really make a huge difference. Plus the massaging seat is nice!!
When you want to drive spiritedly switch it into Sports + mode and you easily hear the roar of the engine and the sweet exhaust notes while enjoying the rear wheel driving bias sporty experience.
In comparison, the RDX A Spec it an excellent top rated vehicle but that engine is super noisy vs the GV70 and its a much more stiffer ride. Plus I wasn't impressed with the 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds to the GV 70's of 5.7 (4.9 seconds in the V-6). And the RDX weighs 450 lbs less.
Its the luxury components/options, higher tech, standard features & options, the ride quality (can be extremely quiet & smooth AND aggressive and sweet exhaust notes) that makes this GV 70 THE clear winner in segment.
Overall the CLEAR winner for me the is the GV70 3.5TT in Sport trim level. I'll take it in that Gorgeous Mauna Red exterior colour with 2 tone interior combination please:-)
In Canada that full load price is $76,500 plus taxes. The F&PDI is included in that price. No discounts from that at all.
The electrified version is coming out in 2023 but in Canada the top trim level will be about $25K-$35K higher cost to the ICE version. Besides its NO Gas requirement the EV version is a littler quicker with 0-60 times 4.3 to 4.6 seconds. For me I'd put down my deposit yesterday if the EV version had a time in the 3.5 second range. It will have a 500 kms range on a full charge.
PS - Lots of dealer problems with Genesis in the States. Here in Vancouver No problems at all. I have 3 dealers within 40 minutes and the nearest is 15 mins away.
Cheers all!!
Impressed! I wish you could get the full digital gauge, and massage seat and a little hybrid action to increase the MPG’s. I think this would be Perfect for me.
Great video, as usual. Many thanks.
Great review. The GV70 2.5T Sport Prestige is the way to go!
Thanks for a great review. I also prefer the more subdued look of the 2.5l vs the 3.5l (wheels, exhaust, etc). Agreed, for roughly $50k it’s a tremendous value👍
I bought the 3.5 Sport Prestige, wanted the performance difference and the interior/tech upgrades. While it's $12K more than the base 2.5, it's also $5-12K less than comparably equipped BMW/Audi/MB, which I benchmarked. Either way, base 2.5 or loaded 3.5 Genesis is becoming a serious player, equip a GLC43 to match specs and you're over $80K. Love the GV70 looks inside and out....
BMW dealerships are good in general on price negotiations, I bought 2021 X5 with 10% off MSRP which made in cheaper than GV80, whereas goodluck to buy GV70/80 even at MSRP price. So, keep in mind that aspect, genesis prices are good on a paper, but in reality they are very close to more luxurious brands.
That's not including any mark-ups - something Genesis (as far as I've seen at least) doesn't do. As the dealers are basically proxies, the buying process is with Genesis directly. A loaded GV70 is 76k in Canada. A loaded X3 M40i here in Calgary is a staggering 92k because of markups.

I was waiting for your review!
After watching your thorough reviews, my wife an I decided on purchasing a Genesis GV70. I visited two Genesis dealers and I told them I planned on paying cash but one dealer said I would have to pay an extra $5,000 if I paid cash rather than finance the car through them. The second dealer said I would have to pay $3,000 extra if I wanted to pay in cash. The GV70 may be a great car but this type of dealership practice completely disgusted me. I definitely won't be buying a Genesis!
Wait they told you it was extra to pay cash rather than financing? I don’t understand why I always assumed you were better off paying cash rather than making payments, geez Genesis really screwed up and lost a customer
they are doing just fine without you lol You are like a child throwing a tantrum. Oh shit i cant do this or that? then I wont buy it~~ lolz

I like this car BECAUSE a lot of people don't recognize it.
It looks like a unfinished prototype Bentley. People don’t recognize it because the exterior looks *incomplete* at certain angles.
Facts!!
@@mybro727 oo what about it makes it look incomplete to you? I'm just curious cuz it didn't look that way to me
@@saswata1445 Idk. Maybe it’s their grilles which are massive but naked. There is nothing (except for the awful radar detector block of plastic) there to break up their Superman shield 🛡 grilles. It’s even worse on the sedans. So at certain angles it almost looks like a unbranded vehicle especially in lower trims. It’s not just the gv70, it’s the GV80 too. They both have exteriors that look like really nice pre-production or unfinished China remakes of a Bentley SUV, again at certain angles. They have a weird presence. Not in a bad way, nor a good way either because you can tell it’s _not_ an actual Bentley too.
Been watching this vehicle for a bit now and am hoping to buy this in the next couple years for a family vehicle.
These REALLY standout on the road👍👍
Genesis keep the hits coming. Sofyan! Great review on the entry model. I like to see Albert Biermann and his team do a high performance model. Excited to see what future products gonna be. Has anyone see the Kia EV7 Concept? A Genesis version of that gonna be awesome. Happy Cupid Day everyone💘
My dream car....just amazing
Damn good performance from the 2.5T!!!!
The NX is so small, I wouldn't even look at that one, but this package here with a strong 4 cylinder with a good price can't be ignored. Awesome review 👍🏽
Agreed. Pretend the nx doesn’t even exist. I said it before many times the gv70 has ended the nx that’s not even on sale yet
Is this 2.5T engine reliable?
@@TheMichaelJu It's a relatively new engine, so reliability is hard to speak of. However, it's the same exact engine as the 2.5T in the RWD based Kia Stinger and very similar to the 2.5T in FWD based Hyundai/Kia vehicles. So with such wide mainstream applications, parts and repairs should be affordable in case something goes wrong. And seeing as Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis all offer 10 years/100K miles powertrain warranty, I wouldn't worry too much about their reliability.
I would buy it if the GV70 offer a hybrid variant. But my wife wants a Hybrid, so we are looking at the nX350H.
@@jml9550 We are a Toyota/Lexus family and I really wanted to like the NX350H. I had a deposit on one and went and test drove this Genesis and I liked it so much. It really is fun to drive which I could never say about the Lexus. Did you ever get the NX?
Wireless car play is a must since a lot of phones no longer have a auxiliary port
How is the steering? Not too light I trust?! Macan heavy and I love that.
I have the exact trim and interior color but black exterior. I have to say you don’t need the 3.5T but the advance trim is a perfect middle ground and it delivers extremely well in performance. I don’t miss the extra features of the 3.5T. Highway driving assist II basically allows to change lanes while the one on this trim doesn’t but that’s about it. My only gripe with the Genesis is the voice commands that could use a lot more features. Kudos Sofyan for the review. Been a fan for years.
How do you like the interior color? this video does not seem to do justice and does not seem to capture the real color
@@alfacricketer it’s beautiful to be honest. It feels more upscale than a blue or something like that but also brings out the design. When the sun hits it there’s a lot of depth to it.
I've been in Longboat Key Florida for the past week and I think I've seen more Genesis' in one town then currently exist in the entire country.

awesome review. Sold me and I went and test drove one and I am now in the process of purchasing one. Puts the volvo xc60, Audi Q5 (I owned 2 A4's in a row from1998-2011, worst cars in terms of reliability I ever owned in my life)and BMW x3 to shame. Only thing people need to include in reviews nowadays is whether they include a replay function in sirius xm. It BLOWS MY MIND that some of the high end badges still do not include this simple/old technology where you are able to live pause and rewind sirius xm preset stations for 60 minutes once the car has been running that long. Uconnect with dodge and chrylser has had this for almost a decade, yet volvo and BMW STILL do not have this feature. I can't live with out it anymore in a vehicle
I was looking at those same models. Will be signing for my GV70 today! Any issues with yours?
If I wanted to spend $50K on a vehicle, I would definitely consider this vehicle. The power is more than enough for me. The interior lighting would be quite nice,...and though the V6 would have some neat features, HUD, full screen cluster, etc,....I'd be okay with this specific model.

I love this car. Seriously considering one. Was hoping to go up to a VW R from a Mk7.5 GTI but the interior I found it worse than most people. It’s horrendous, unusable, gimmicky and very very cheap. The 2.5T genesis makes a lot of sense to me. Would fill in a nice gap in time for me while kids are requiring more room for a few years then move back to something else later. Maybe a mk9 R if they exist.
I’m cross shopping this against the A4 allroad. This is much cheaper though and more usable inside. The interior is amazing. I liked the 2.5 more than the V6 actually - yes the v6 is faster but I found the 4cyl felt lighter on its feet. Just waiting for maybe until the end of the year when dealers stop tacking on an extra 5k for made up fees…….

I'm sure there are other comments regarding this, but the 2.5T models do not get a heads-up display in any package including the Sport Prestige. This is reserved for the 3.6TT. What was Genesis thinking?! At almost $54,000 on the 2.5T with Sport Prestige, you should be getting this option! Even Kia and Hyundai have a heads-up display.
Strange oversite isn't it? My wife's CX-5 has heads-up display and it isn't even the top level trim!
