Ordered the GV70 2022 2.5 T Advanced plus after watching your review. Here is my 9 month review. My first Genesis purchase. Took a road trip to Pittsburgh from Oakville ON after a big storm in Dec, passing through Buffalo was challenging but the car remained planted with winter tires. Extremely comfortable ride quality, precision handling and the safety features are well thought out. In comfort mode the handling is between a Mercedes and an Audi, the BMW/Porsche handling is much tighter/harsher. The 300 horses are ready to kick in with a growl when you need them. Kids loved the Apple Car Play. Auto dimming side view mirrors were much appreciated (For some reason either people drive with DRL's at night or high beams on ??). Interior cabin plush and luxurious. Getting a lot of blinkers and thumbs up as I am driving down the street, seems like there is a budding Genesis fan base. So after 23 years of driving EVERY German brand I switched to Genesis, it was a big leap. Have not regretted it yet. (the fact I have never seen the inside of a dealership from purchase to service is a blessing) (is it confirmation bias, we shall see) Yesterday drove my friend's new 180,000 CAD ride from Stuttgart (You know which Brand), cannot compare, its a beautiful car. When I came back to my Genesis, I wasn't missing any tech other than the growling 6 Turbo. All for 120,000 CAD less. So 9 months later for my money and use case the GV70 is the way to go. For a 9 year old brand, Well done Genesis !!!!
I have owned this exact trim same exterior color with the red velvet interior. I am so impressed, we also purchased the GV80 and I get looks everywhere I go. The advanced trim is the perfect Goldilocks trim equipment and still the best engine versus the competition.
I got the 2.5t in the So Cal area, no option, MSRP $42.5K, it's so amazing, dreamy! Build quality is as soon as any Range Rover. 300 HP standard, very quite ride, fast when it needs to be....reclining rear seat....love the tail pipe and I think it's better than the round pipes, steering wheel look way better in person due to high quality of material...the NAV and Infotainment is the best in class, very sophisticated. Everything i mean everything feels expensive!!!
I don't see why people are making such a big deal about the steering wheel. I feel, why not be different and I think it looks nice and you have less black gloss to wipe and try to keep clean. Question - Did they tried to market up the price?
The dealer we bought ours from 3 weeks ago had 3 including ours and they sold all in 4 days. I was familiar with GV80 at the time but not GV70. Where we live which is a large tourist county in east Tennesse with lots of traffic and I have seen on GV80 that must live close to us but no GV70s. It is an awesome vehicle and not astronomically high priced.
Been driving mine for the last two months and love every single thing about it! Really have to fish for those complaints. Its Motor Trends' Car of the year for 2022!!!!!!!
Well...you sold me. I've just ordered a silver 2.5T. Now for the waiting....have been told it will likely take 6mo or more. It can't come soon enough. Thanks for the excellent review - practical and focused on what people really need. Do you need the bigger engine? No...you may want it but you don't need it and it may get you into trouble. I've recently come from a 2018 BMW X3 M40i. Wonderful engine, buttery smooth but you never need that much power. The 2.5T has ample torque early and doesn't seem to run out of power in every day conditions. thanks again.
I really appreciate you taking the 2.5L trim rather than the bigger one. All other car reviewers were doing test drive with the bigger one and making all the comments but they are two different vehicles at the end of the day. There will be a lot of shoppers who are looking at the 2.5L and don't want to make a decision on it by watching the review on the V6. Your review stands out and deserve praise for giving an honest review on the vehicle. I would have jumped on it if it had a hybrid version. Based on what Hyundai is doing, I believe that a hybrid or phev of GV70 will be in pipeline for 2023 or 2024. I will wait on that. But, surely if I am in the market for an SUV around 40k USD, this is the one!
Thanks for reviewing this I watch you guys very often. Wife and I bought a white with red/black interior GV70 Sport Prestige 2.5t three weeks ago and LOVE it. I really like color of interior on your review model. Lot of features but the finger print thing is awesome. Yes the 2.5t is QUICK. Was glad to hear you guys give your approval and to hear Zack talk positive, however, Zack Subaru, really? I am with Andrea don’t hear Subaru. We didn’t mean to trade but took her 2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited for regular service and now have a GV70. Another great review and I think everyone should put it is S and SUBSCRIBE!
Well first, thank you so much for the support. I agree, everyone should put it in S for subscribe. Lol! Congratulations on your new GV70, you have a beautiful SUV, enjoy.
I just traded in my beloved G70, I had it for almost four years, no issues at all. I purchased a 2023 GV70 2.5T, I am in love! Thank you for your review!
Yes, you convinced me too! I ordered a 2.5T Prestige in May. I like having the top of the line but couldn't justify the cost of the 3.5T, so went with the top of the 2.5T range instead. I actually like the suede/Alcanterra inserts better than the quilted seats of the 3.5T. I loved that Burgundy colour from your 3.5T review so I went with that colour. It will be a long wait. Might see something in December. I was also bumped to the 2023 model, which increased in price by $1,000 CAD. They have NOT changed the steering wheel. They have removed Highway Drivers Assist II as well as they can't get the required chips. The only other change is to add monobloc brakes to the 2.5T. No wireless AA or Carplay. Oh well, still looking forward to it!
I’m a long time Audi enthusiast but my fiancé is looking for her next vehicle to upgrade to from her CX-5 and this is the front runner for her at this time after looking at all other premium brands, just waiting to drive the new NX. I really enjoyed your review of this vehicle and you have a very down to earth approach in your reviews. You’ve earned my subscription with this video. Great job.
I totally agree, nice video been waiting to see the 2.5T. I reserved mine back in August and was suppose to arrive 11/4, but now it will b 12/21. I did not see any point in spending an extra $11,000 for the 3.5T with everything I wanted. I will be very happy with the 2.5T Advanced Trim.
I bought my GV70 3.5T Sport model (in the US) July 2021 & am absolutely loving it. Although I agree that the GV70 2.5T Advanced package is probably the best bang for your buck, even the top-of-the-line 3.5T is an excellent value in the states. Genesis has the best highway driving assist available. This combined with super quiet interior/smooth ride makes for pleasurable commutes back-and-forth from work. The interior/exterior is a work of art… mine is Uyuni white + red/black interior. And plus, The genesis warranty is 100,000 miles/10 year for the drivetrain… Jim Ellis dealer in Atlanta extended my warranty to lifetime (so long as I take it for all schedule maintenance visits… which I do anyway). Car and driver voted this best SUV of the year... I agree! Nice review as always.
GV70 is pretty popular in Metro Vancouver, at least in my suburb in the south. Given the commodity of German brands, Genesis has done really well for an upstart premium brand. Even G70 is quite popular.
My good friend bought the GV70 Sport yesterday and it's a beautiful car. I am a old Chevy muscle car guy and was impressed with the pull of the 4 banger 2.5L turbo. I drove this for a couple of hours on the road and it was a pleasure. Very plush but also sporty as well and lot's of room for a big guy like me who is 6'3. 55K is a big price to me but I have not bought a new car in almost ten years. :) I love the steering wheel !!!!
Saw my first g70 in person the other day. It looks really nice. As I was walking out the store, I saw someone peeking inside of it and looking at the crest.
Love the looks and interior of the GV70. As Zack's said, it mops the floor of the competition on the inside. I think some German brands like Mercedes and Audi have been hiding behind their badges and getting away with their uninspiring and questionable quality interiors for too long. And I even like the steering wheel on this :-/)
@@michaelwiebe4282 Nope! Even a German reviewer agrees this car stands up to the German brands! Add to that the fact that its Motor Trends' Car of the Year for 2022 and you've got an amazing effort by the Koreans who, by the way, employed German techs from those other brands in designing this vehicle.

I have a sport advanced 3.5t The sport wheel does bother me on long drives …. But around town it’s great. I’m in California, I have yet to see another yet, but I’ve had friends see them in other ca cities.
I agree 110%. I find it annoying that 99% of all car reviews focus on the top trim (or at least a much higher trim). I want to see reviews for cars that *I can afford to buy* . Most people are cost-conscious. Why are they underserved by reviewers???
Excellent! You two have the best car review videos! I really appreciate your car analysis and comparison along with your Q&A section. It's very helpful. Thank you!!
Guys, been enjoying your videos for a while now. You sold me on that vehicle. Only problem: 8 to 10 month waiting list in Montreal, QC. This is getting quite frustrating watching great reviews and test drives but not being able to buy the cars… Keep up the great work.
Fun Fact: Genesis has the Filippo Perini from Italdesign a head designer for Lamborghini, Luc Donckerwolke who did work for Lamborghini, Bentley and Audi. You have Albert Biermann, Fayez Rahman, and Thomas Schemera, engineers and M division former heads of BMW, SangYup Lee from Bentley, Alexander Selipanov from Bugatti, designer of the Chiron exterior, all on one team. Genesis was not playing around when they are going after the German brands.
Great review as always, you two! I could live with the dial shifter (I have one now on my Land Rover Disco Sport), it wasn't that hard to get used to. But I couldn't go for the "non-sport" wheel, it would bother me every time I sat in the car! The rest of the vehicle looks very nice, Genesis has done a good job with the GV70.
Wow! You guys pulled off a 180 from the 3.5T review. This is awesome!!! I am glad you liked this car as you mentioned in the 3.5T review that you are a Q5 biased. Thank you for this review! This made me very happy with my purchase decision.
This is absolutely the car I want to buy. Problem is, here we are 7 months after this review and they are STILL charging mid $60,000 for them. No way I'm paying $15-20K over the MSRP. I'll take a Santa Fe Calligraphy for a couple years until the price on these comes down to normal range. Should be able to get a good pre-owned one then.
I like the old school steering wheel because it reminds me of the navy blue 1979 Cadillac Coupe Deville with baby blue interior that I drove while getting my driver's license! Ah memories! And this was in 1993, not 1979 so I'm not that old...although it is 9pm and past my bed time! Good night!
I find it strange to see someone on here that had a similar Cadillac experience like me, except your experience happened one year before mine and the Cadillac interior is burgundy.
This is an incredibly attractive offer from Genesis. I've watched several reviews on the GV70...everyone loves the style. I mean....what's not to like?.
I love my 2023 GV70 Advanced with the two spoked steering wheel especially on long trips. You can rest you hand in the middle which for me is comfortable.
I just had a brand new 2022 Alfa Romeo stelvio. Traded it in for a 2022 gv70. Couldn’t be happier. My car prior was a Range Rover and prior to that was a 328i. The genesis beats them all. I haven’t drive a recent bmw but I’ve sat in a few. Wasn’t impressed.
Genesis needs to offer 3 things on the 2.5T models: 3 spoke steering wheel, full 12.3" digital instrument cluster, wireless carplay and androidauto. GV70's design language, styling, luxury feel, tech and features are its strongest selling points. V6 top trim is priced too high to be competitive in this segment, the driving dynamics isn't quite to German competitor's level. But the 2.5T trim with all the bells and whistles is a pretty formidable package. Thanks for the detailed review Zack and Andrea.
The steering wheel looks better in the black interior and I like the 2 spoke design because I like to hold the wheel at the 6 position on long drives. The style could be improved but I like the 2 spokes.
I have a Genesis G80 these cars are top class there like BMW 7 series but at half the cost. Thinking about getting the GV70 next for the wife in the future absolutely amazing cars/suvs.
Thanks Andrea & Zack for doing this 2.5t review - been waiting for it for a while. I am planning to lease the 2.5t select because like you said it is reasonably priced and has value written all over it. Buick steering wheel should go I agree; I test drove the 3.5 it's good but I didn't get the "wow" factor when price is considered. the only thing "missing" in the 2.5t select base model to me is the power folding side mirrors and may be a better looking more simple wheels. the "hump" at the back is a bit high as I have 3 kids; I still like this better than the GV80
Hyundai dealers in KY area are adding huge markups on the GV70 and GV80. Drove a GV80 with 2.5T and was impressed with how smooth it was. Resale value after 4 years 40% of new… Hyundai dealership experience. I don’t care how good it is. Gotta go with the bank of Lexus.
I'm sooooo in the minority in my opinion. I much prefer the two spoke steering wheel. I personally don't like driving with a 3 spoke. I'm a soft riding, luxury cruising kinda guy. Hate overly stiff suspension. Safe handling yes. Stiff and uncomfortable for the sake of "sporty handling"....no thank you, I'm not trying to track my premium/luxury SUV. LOL. My favorite car/steering wheel I've ever owned was a 92 Buick Regal sedan. When out cruising down an open road or the hwy.....I like to put my hand on the bottom of the wheel and just relax. Can't do that with the third spoke in the way. AGAIN.....I'm in the minority here and its just my opinion. Great review as always!
Great review. This was very helpful. I was looking at Mercedes, Lexus, and Volvo. What was I thinking not putting this into the discussion. Going to test drive it today!
I don’t have an issue with the 2 spoke steering wheel.; in fact love it. I’ve owned one for a couple of months and find it well laid out. The use of piano black plastic in a high touch area and haptic feedback instead of click buttons was a definite turn off for me. Similarly I wasn’t a fan of the sports package with high gloss black paint on the front and use of black plastic instead of chrome. That cr@p shouldn’t be on a luxury vehicle (IMHO). Very happy with my vehicle overall but the fuel economy I get is 40% more than stated… and that’s in Eco mode and trying to keep consumption as low as I can.
Can’t help but wonder where the front license plate goes…the front end doesn’t have an obvious place for it. Great video and awesome vehicle. When my Nissan Murano is ready to trade I will go for the GV70 2.5
40% residual! That’s not impressive. I’m sure the Lexus after 48 months is probably 55%. What these numbers say is no aggressive leasing. However wait and buy one used. Depreciation is your highest cost of ownership on any vehicle.
Love this vehicle and would get one tomorrow but where I live the Genesis dealership has no new models for sale and the one used one they have is $10,000 more than a new one! WTF? When will the dealership nonsense stop. How long can they milk the supply chain excuse for ripping us off?
Was recently told by the dealer they are deliberately not keeping inventory at the dealer to keep it exclusive. They want cars ordered. Part of their selling strategy. You can’t see or drive one. Crazy.
Great review. Begs the question, why would anyone pay so much more for German cars? The Genesis is a much better value and will likely hold its value well due to much better reliability than the current German competition.
Hopefully more ppl start taking this brand seriously. Because of the Koreans, all products have gotten better. Where do u think ur heated steering steering wheel came from in a b series hatch? As always super review. Needs more giggles. Very honest review.
Creating a portfolio of bespoke RWD vehicles and going for the throat of the Germans was the smartest thing Genesis did. Lexus started off smart by offering the original LS but quickly diluted the brand by rebadging Toyota products to make other Lexus products. The NX should be based off the IS. The RX should be based off the GS. The ES should have NEVER existed. The money and R&D they put into that car could have been put into the GS and it’ll still be alive today. Both the IS and GS were excellent driving vehicles. Lexus had the answers and for some reason never took advantage of it. I hope they learn their lesson when Genesis starts to destroy them limb from limb.
Lease residuals are not really correlated to resale values. Car makers make a profit from the interest rate and just selling the car to the dealer. Residual often has no bearing on market value.
My order of this exact trim from July in Mississauga my not arrive until the new year. Is this the Himalayan Grey with the Havana Brown interior which is my choice too ? After driving various Audi cars for over 20 years, I’m switching to Genesis, hopefully no regrets in the coming years ? Fingers crossed, great review Zack
Another Great review. I can’t figure what you mean about the steering wheel? Looks good and hands fit at the right places. 2 vs 3 spoke ? I’m more interested in the controls within reach on the wheel. Maybe I’m missing something?
Not sure why people are hating on the steering wheel. It’s unique looking and more comfortable to grip without the third spoke. If you like the car but don’t buy it because of this design you have to rethink your priorities.
I'm surprised this shares the same AWD underpinnings as the BMW and what Zack said about how it drives, is probably due to Albert Biermann's involvement. Overall, Genesis is doing great moves lately. People should give them a chance and get on the ground floor with these offerings.
On top of Albert Biermann they got Fayez Rahman, and Thomas Schemera on board as well from BMW. Genesis also has the Filippo Perini from Italdesign a head designer for Lamborghini, Luc Donckerwolke did work for Lamborghini, Bentley and Audi. SangYup Lee from Bentley, and Alexander Selipanov from Bugatti, designer of the Chiron exterior, all on one team. It's pretty insane how many engineers and lead designers they poached for their team. Their designs have been trickling down through to lower models of Hyundai and Kia as well. I'm lucky enough to live in S.Korea so I see these new models way earlier than other markets and man they keep coming out with fantastic stuff year after year.
If the worst feature to be found is the look of the steering wheel it's obvious that the GV70 is a winner.
Totally agree. Who cares about the wheel. Definitely not deal breaker. The ride of NX feels like a glorified Toyota. Not umpressed

@@bennylinhe3129 CDN$ 59K when I pre-ordered it in April
I have a sport advanced 3.5t
The sport wheel does bother me on long drives …. But around town it’s great. I’m in California, I have yet to see another yet, but I’ve had friends see them in other ca cities.
Really? I ordered my 2.5T Prestige in July and got in on October 22 here in Toronto. Actually got the white with the Blue interior.
The Koreans are really crushing their interiors lately.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the review!
We bought a 2023 GV70 Sport Prestige and we love it. Great review, thanks 🙂
I like the steering wheel! I like to droop my hand at the 6 oclock position..Im lazy...and Im a lifelong trucker...I ll take this wheel anyday
Wow! You guys pulled off a 180 from the 3.5T review. This is awesome!!! I am glad you liked this car as you mentioned in the 3.5T review that you are a Q5 biased. Thank you for this review! This made me very happy with my purchase decision.
3.5T is overpriced. Not sure why they always give us the top model, this one is better.
I really like the 3.5T, I just think Genesis is asking a lot for it.
@@Motormouth... How it's Compared to Lexus and Acura in Reliability...❓❓❓
Should be able to get a good pre-owned one then.
have the prices come down now?
Yes, Indeed. The best-in-class for sure!
@@JT-fq2bl it just means you're supposed to buy the Genesis with the burgundy interior!
Hello,
Yes this sure is sharp looking !
Thanks for sharing.
Excellent, very enjoyable review!
Thank you so much!
Would love to see a comparison of GV70 vs 2022 RDX
Just got one in silver after tried Q3 and X3. A stunner and a constant head turner! Car and Driver SUV of the year!
Lol a Hyundai 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Congratulations, enjoy!
@@naveenthemachine Some people are just band whores, let alone know who were the designers of this Genesis SUV. 😂😂😂
@@andreaspencer9813 Thank you!
@@naveenthemachine I agree with you Lexus is cheap and nasty and indeed it is a Toyota. Caked up Toyota trying to look rich 🤣 but fails miserably...
looks like another winner from Genesis..there interiors for the price point are very nice indeed..enjoy
I owed various version of Genesis from the first gen sedan to the G80 V8. The GV70 could be my next car.
How’s your resale value on your genesis when you fade it in?
Never heard of this car, but I’m buying one today lol. Tested it yesterday and it was fun.
This is an incredibly attractive offer from Genesis. I've watched several reviews on the GV70...everyone loves the style. I mean....what's not to like?.
Not to like? The steering wheel. ;)
lol
I have my doubts that it will depreciate as projected...if it is the quality I suspect it will fall in line when it comes to resale value.
What's not to like is dealers wanting $10-15,000 over MSRP due to the high demand for this car coupled with the chip shortage causing low supply.
Don't quote me on this but, I think all the chips you need will be in the car when you get it....QC's got that.
Great video. Can you switch off the piped in engine soundtrack in this model?
I absolutely love this look of this car, I own a G70 and love it. I may upgrade! :)
I love my 2023 GV70 Advanced with the two spoked steering wheel especially on long trips. You can rest you hand in the middle which for me is comfortable.
Not everyone gets the elegant touch of the 2 spoke steering wheel styling.
Exactly, I think it looks very stylish and different, why be like everyone else.
Yes. I actually like it a lot
RDX is a glorified CRV
NX is a glorified RAV4
GV70 is from G70 which is a luxury rear drive sport sedan
Very interesting point!
Isn't this a glorified santa fe? Same engine
As always, love the great reviews - in-depth, personal and super helpful
Not a fan of the 2-spoke GV80 steering wheel in the GV70. The 3-spoke sport steering wheel should be the standard
Interiors in these are beautiful
Andrea, I have the 2.5T Prestige with the Sport appearance package, it comes with 19" wheels, NOT the 21" wheels
Sorry about that my mistake, I usually don't miss these things, thanks for pointing it out.
Weird, my 2.5 prestige has the 21” rims.
@@MrBudha25 Canada or the States? I'm in Canada
@@randyfine4535 ohh that might be why. I’m in the states. So annoying how they have these little differences.
Yup, in Canada, we get suede seats, HUD, 19" wheels and in the US, they get no HUD but the full digital dash, mesh seats and 21" wheels.
Finally !! A gv70 2.5t review !
So many 3.5t sport prestige reviews are out and I really don’t like the fish scale wheels on the top trim
The steering wheel looks better in the black interior and I like the 2 spoke design because I like to hold the wheel at the 6 position on long drives. The style could be improved but I like the 2 spokes.
Same here I like holding steering wheels at 6 so for me it's amazing
Same here, I thinks it looks nice and different, why be like everyone else.
Me too...it has an ole school appeal
I have a Genesis G80 these cars are top class there like BMW 7 series but at half the cost. Thinking about getting the GV70 next for the wife in the future absolutely amazing cars/suvs.
Hot take but I love my old fashioned, big, 2-spoke steering wheel and it’s one of my favorite features in my GV70!
Thanks for taking my question!
Of course, thanks for participating!
So glad this review popped up on my feed. I love the way you do your car review. I subscribed right away. Thanks for sharing this video.
Thanks for the sub!
Me too, I like it much more than the GV80.
I like it too
Great review. This was very helpful. I was looking at Mercedes, Lexus, and Volvo. What was I thinking not putting this into the discussion. Going to test drive it today!
Glad it was helpful! - Andrea
@@Motormouth... How this car Compared to Lexus and Acura in Reliability..❓❓❓❓
Question for Andrea: how do you compare the handling of Genesis GV70 2.5T to that of Mazda CX-5 Turbo?
Weird I really like the steering wheel. Very clean and elegant imo
another fine review.
Thank you very much!
A year plus later, the depreciation in reality is nearly zero. There is still more demand than supply.
Thanks glad you enjoyed it!
I love the steering wheel since I like to keep my hand at the bottom on the highway.
I actually prefer the steering wheel. Hope they keep it at least optional
@motormouth Between the gv70 advance plus, xc60 inscription, q5, q3 what would you recommend?
Completely agree about wish list:
Wireless car play
Three spoke steering wheel
Have you done a review of the Genesis GV70e? How about the Cadillac Lyriq? Could you review those vehicles for us?
I love the two spoke steering, much preferred
Nice review, my favorite design on a SUV... A bit disappointed on the gv60 when compared to this one. I think I'll lease this one
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the review!
I love these two
Thank you so much!
Great review.
Lease residuals are not really correlated to resale values. Car makers make a profit from the interest rate and just selling the car to the dealer. Residual often has no bearing on market value.
Thank you for the review.
I never hear about auto dimming inside and outside rear view mirrors. As a night driver I like to know that information.
FREAKING KINKY! BABE WANTS A BUBBLE BATH! ❤️
i agree, the steering wheel itself could be the deal breaker....what does genesis is thinking ???
Another Great review. I can’t figure what you mean about the steering wheel? Looks good and hands fit at the right places. 2 vs 3 spoke ? I’m more interested in the controls within reach on the wheel. Maybe I’m missing something?
we just got the NX but I dont like that the 14" screen only shows one thing at a time. The GV70 can go split screen
IS THIS A RELIABLE CAR AS TOYOTA HIGHLANDER IS. IS IT COSTLY TO MAINTAIN THIS CAR VS TOYOTA HIGHLANDER
I’m getting this in January.
I have a 2019 G70 and I'd love to switch to one of these
What is your recommendation for aftermarket wireless Apple CarPlay for this car?
