Definitely noticed this on Colapinto onboard this weekend. Lewis also does very similar things he drive very weird racing lines without losing speed to protect tyres. Hard to do completely overlooked
franco clearly loves lewis when you see his interactions with him. its entirely possible that franco learned this style when watching lewis's onboards over the years.
@JARDEH you would be correct, this quote is from 2020, when he was 16 years old: In the meantime he tries to study his “way of performing on track” of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. “They are very good,” he described them. And he highlights their “way of racing is tremendous,” “they are very aggressive” and “the consistency they have in each of the races.” “They are drivers that I follow a lot, I watch their careers and in the future I would like to be like them,” he concluded about his references in the automotive world.
I was very surprised to hear Peter Windsor say that Franco drove like sainz with a wide line, because I saw the exact opposite. Good to see that someone can look at his driving objectively and come to an accurate conclusion. 👍
PEOPLE DON’T KNOW WHO THEY’RE DEALING WITH!!! Colapinto decided at the age of 14 to stay alone in Europe to compete because his parents ran out of money and couldn’t afford his expenses. He wanted to reach Formula 1. From a young age, he had that in mind, and you can see it in his interviews. Imagine staying alone at that age, far from your country, customs, and family, while other kids that age are playing video games. One day in Europe, he was riding his bike when suddenly the car in front of him stopped abruptly. Colapinto kept going and crashed into the car, breaking his face and nose. They called medical services because the bleeding wouldn’t stop. They took him to the hospital for first aid, and they told him he needed surgery. Franco said he DID NOT want surgery because he had to race that weekend. So, he raced with a broken face and nose. But it doesn’t end there. When they took him to the surgeon the following week, he told the doctor to fix his nose without surgery because he had to race the next weekend too. So, the surgeon put his nose back in place without surgery and without anesthesia. He preferred to endure the pain rather than stop racing.
Great exploration of Franco's skillset. I just got into F1 last year and I've been craving fresh blood.okay that sounds weird, but you know what I mean. Fresher, eager...er young talent is a breath of fresh air

Cam i dont know about you, but if I were at Audi, I would be putting pen to paper for Colopinto, for 2025, with an option on 26-27. At the very start of a practice sesh, Im glued to the monitor looking for the rookie, and he never disappoints… i don’t mean to play devils advocate at all, but I do wonder, what does James Vowles think, would he rather a Colopinto and Sainz line up in 25, if he could pick all over again? Im mashing the button on it now Cam, the boy is a multiple grand prix winner and potentially more!
And it would be remise for me to not state facts here, you’re operating a 5 star channel and deserve all of the F1 accolades coming your way in the future! Keep up the alien pace my friend 😊🏎️
When looking at the turns geometrically, you also need to consider what follows after the immediate turn. The trajectory optimization must consider the whole situation. This means you need to optimize for the whole track, not just the next turn.
Yeah! Maybe the only pilot with a whole country pushing alongside with him. There's a very promising future ahead to write in the pages of F1 racing. VAMOS FRANCO! VAMOS COLAPINTO CARAJO!!!
When Lando does it, it looks like a piece is missing out of the puzzle. Compared to Lewis or Max do they look so complete as in racecraft and application.
Can't agree on turn 8. The wide run allows more time to straighten the car for turn 9 allowing a faster exit for the straight. The only reason not to do this is you didn't have car control on turn 7.
I heard you talking about Charles, i dont remember excly the year but was monza and the way he was crossing the chicane all terrain, did you considered the fact that it was in is mind the faster way to do it, not is normal way but the faster way as is car was so much slower than RB for example, or about France that wasnt an error driver but maybe.. as Alonso referenced some time ago the car is easier to control/drive at 90%, but then again if you'r going at 90% the car isnt faster per se, against other car i mean- i mean you want to do something with the thing you have in your hands and you can go slower or faster, slower is 4th place faster is a 3rd what will you do? Will you take the chance? Or not?
@Cameron: Did you see Peter Windsor's bit on what the points difference would've been if McLaren made Lando first driver from the beginning of the season? Very enlightening, doesn't back up Zak's / Andrea's narrative. On the contrary..
Is it just me or unlike all the other 19 drivers when comes to Max it takes a lot longer to give him a time penalty or whether he has to give the position back
McLaren haven't yet realized that they were competing for p1 and Lando still thinks he's winning at p2. I think Lando needs to grow a pair or be a no2 team driver to a world champ. He's a great team-mate but that never made a f1 champ.
Cam it may be too soon to ask this question as Antonelli hasn’t had a race yet. However, do you think Mercedes replaced Hamilton with the wrong young driver? Even though it was convenient as Antonelli is a Mercedes Junior driver
I saw lando taking this same line in battle with max - and - franco was on for Fastest lap. I agree they should be optimising for qual and race but these drivers aren't as sharp as we should give them credit for. You're 100 % correct
