@@calumbishop7082 The original plan was to have Sargeant do 2 years in F2, not just one. However, Jost Capito rushed that plan since they wanted to get rid of Latifi. Sargeant's actual debut would've been this season, and I think it was a huge mistake to rush him up after only one year in F2.
@@smokeybandit9760 I don't think a second year in F2 would have made him any better in an F1 car. The guy clearly just didn't have it. @@Sl1mch1ckens Not saying I 100% agree but a proven race winner in great form and a very impressive rookie would be an amazing line-up for Williams. Alex of course has been doing a mega job for Williams as well, very fast and very consistent, racking up the points at every chance. I can't even remember when Williams last had a driver choice this good. Massa/Bottas at least, maybe even going back to Montoya and Ralf Schumacher. Since 2017 we've only ever had 1 good driver at best (sometimes 0), now we have 3.
I have to admit that I haven't really followed Colapinto up until his F1 start. I've watched all of F2 this year, so I have seen him race, but there was nothing really about him that made him stand out to me in that series. So when Williams announced him to replace Sargeant, I was rather puzzled. I just didn't get why they would chose him. But "success in F2 or a lack thereof doesn't necessarily translate into F1" is well-proven at this point. I was impressed if not exactly surprised by Monza, but since then my impression of him has increased dramatically. What impresses me the most is how quickly he seems to be able to acclimate to the car and find the limits. I think it's pretty easy to downplay Albon given how close Colapinto is, but honestly I think that has more to do with Colapinto doing a great job than Alex not doing good enough. They are both putting that car in spots that it really shouldn't be in, which is more than anyone can say about Sergio Perez. It'll be a shame if he doesn't manage to secure a spot on the grid next year. He's also great in interviews as well, and I love his sense of humor. I'm going to say something probably a bit reckless, but he's like the Argentine Daniel Ricciardo. I am officially a Colapinto fan and I hope he excels during the rest of the season.
Love your videos Will! The Riccardo video was a masterpiece. I think Franco is going to continue to do well this year and probably won't have a seat next year but in 2026 with some driver changes and next years silly season i think he will find a seat in a lower team. I just hope he doesn't have to wait until 2027.
I don't want to see Colapinto on the sidelines next year. Not only is a decent guy with a really inspiring back story but he is a fantastic driver. Would love to see him in a top team.
Always remember, junior series are not a parameter to compare drivers. ART, PREMA, Trident, Invicta, are powerful teams in F3 and F2 and make the impression that the drivers are so good. Franco never was on a team in Freca, F3 and F2 to be champion, but in every category he was top ten in the standings
@@theorenhobart What a stupid comment you make. I guess you didn't think Hamilton could even come close to Schumacher's record a few years ago, did you? Well, who knows... it's very difficult but not impossible. The same was also said about Fangio's record... and that record was broken too.
It’s alright mate, I think we all were. He’s done a solid job thus far and it’s heartwarming to see the Argentine fan base come out in force to support him. I don’t see Albon and Sainz staying long term at the team unless they take big steps forward. So when they do leave, James Vowles need not worry too much about finding a successor.
Franco´s performance makes me wonder what other hidden gems may be in the F2, F3 or perhaps even the Academy grid. Drivers like a Hauger, Linblad, maybe even a Maya Weug or whoever else.

Colapinto has outperformed Sargeant's entire career in just those 3 races. Dude has a bright future in F1 even if he spends a year as a reserve driver. We all need to remember that as good as Colapinto is, Antonelli is even better. Which is nuts.
why is antonelli better? both won f4 by landslide, and colapinto was ahead of kimi in f2. the difference is franco is not 18, he has raced in lmp3 and the Toyota racing series and whatever drive he could get behind the wheel of. and had success every time.
You may remember the video of an infamous Argentinian celebrating with champagne the death of your beloved Queen Elizabeth. Bringing up the subject of the Belgrano is more or less the same, with one difference, the guy was celebrating with champagne but had nothing to do with her death.
I hope Franco gets a fair shot at a permanent seat, would be a massive shame if he didn’t get the chance to develop or the opportunity to show the world what he’s capable off with a bit of leeway and a decent car + team.
He seems to be a nice kid and he's definitely got the minerals and ability to make a career in F1. Unless these last few races have flattered to deceive, but I don't think so. I hope everyone goes easy on him in Qatar. That's going to be a killer for half the grid, unless they've changed something about it. I don't think he has done anything wrong yet, I suspect that if he does do something _apparently_ silly, it will be there. If so, don't judge. Unless it's in lap one and he's really done something stupid, then he'll deserve exactly what anyone else gets under such circumstances. But he's not going to be as strong as his more experienced cohort and that one was really hard on even the toughest drivers last year. Looking forward to seeing him in Austin. I don't think the car is up for points without assistance, but it should be a good comparison to Alex. Assuming Alex's car has recovered from its heat allergy and desire to cling onto anything cool. Fingers crossed we'll see a good clean run for them both. If he has a clean season from now on, especially if he scores more points, I'm going to be convinced that Vowles will be regretting spending so much on Carlos...
When Leclerc had his rookie seasons with Sauber/Alfa, I told everyone he was going to be a serious contender. I could see how sharp his skills were and look at him now that he has good hardware with Ferrari. Franco is going to be the same way. He has ton a raw talent (so does Ollie), but he's going to be held back with his Williams machine.
I love your videos, but I’d love it if we can stop with the Falkland “jokes”. You might think it’s light banter and for most it is, but there’s always people that don’t understand. Can we ditch those jokes and continue having playful banter instead? It’s just casting a shadow over an entire country who wants to move on.

@@calumbishop7082 sometimes you get a Niels koolen or a mahaveer raghunathan rather than a Theo pourchaire or a Lando norris
@@smokeybandit9760 I don't think a second year in F2 would have made him any better in an F1 car. The guy clearly just didn't have it. People love to slag Mick Schumacher for his F1 stint but Mick was stuck in a terrible team with a worse-than-useless teammate in Mazepin for his first season and by the end of his second season was already bettering Magnussen. Meanwhile, Sargeant had the team bending over backwards giving him every opportunity available and he made zero progress.

As a williams fan i think i would rather him over sainz next year but not much we can do now. I just like supporting our own drivers.
Same. Love Carlos, but Colapinto and Williams are just such a perfect fit for eachother.
@@somefrog6089 yeah i dont mean it as a slight against carlos at all i think he will do great. Just if its the choice of external or internal driver in always team internal.
I'd rather get rid of Albon and have Carlos - Franco as the drivers.
@@slash148 how come? I dont agree but thats a pretty interesting opinion.

0:14 I’m imagining Enya would be playing here if it weren’t for copyright 😂
I spit my water brother 😂
Is it me or does Franco Colapinto look like an Argentina Ayrton Senna?
Biggest risk of Colpainto's career is the ladies....
I'm loving the slick editing style for this video Will
Well done video. Good footage and excellent script! I’ll be subscribing!!👍👍👍
I love your videos, but I’d love it if we can stop with the Falkland “jokes”. You might think it’s light banter and for most it is, but there’s always people that don’t understand. Even so, most british people don’t really understand how much that affected our country. We get along nicely with people over there and that took many years to rebuild. Can we ditch those jokes and continue having playful banter instead? It’s just casting a shadow over an entire country who wants to move on.
