  • In this 3rd episode of TonePrint Tuesday, we answer a viewer's question: is it possible to have a good whammy effect through the MASH switch?
    Yes, it is, and all it takes is a couple of tweaks. Dive in to find out which - and stay until the end to know how to set up your Brainwaves to play The Blood And Tears.
    Fire up your TonePrint Editor, follow along, and let me know in the comments how this works for you!

      and sadly also on the manual... I want to know what i can customize about the "custom" setting on the voice knobs and nowhere does it say what you can or can't do. Within the app there is no way to create a toneprint unless you have the pedal. But I won't buy it unless I know what I can customize on top.
      Specifically, I'd like to know if it is possible to set the voice at a P12 (oct+5th) or anywhere between 1 and 2 octaves.

    Hi, thank you for all of your videos! I'm hoping you can give me some tips on tweaking the settings to do the Audioslave "like a stone" solo. A slow whammy, maybe a less sensitive curve to let the pitch change more smoothly. I just can't seem to get it right. Thank you!!

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  Рік тому

      Hi Mike, tweaking the sensitivity curve to make it less sensitive might be a double edged sword, as it might force you to put too much weight on the pedal to reach the correct pitch - but try tweaking the Bend Time parameters in the Voice tabs, and make them a bit longer, that way the pitch won't be as jumpy!

    Great video!! Thanks a lot!! I have a question. Is it possible to do the whammy effect by using an expression pedal instead of the Mash button? May be the glide between notes could be more slow (more like a real whammy Tom Morello style) using an expression pedal? Thanks a lot again

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  2 роки тому +4

      Thank you! 🙏🏻 And yes, on the Plethora you can absolutely use the Expression pedal. I think the pitch shifting toneprints already have it mapped, so you just need to go into the Board settings, Exp assignment, Modifier, then pick the Brainwaves slot and select "Expression Modifier".

    How do you make the MASH switch bend the tone down (instead of up) on the Plethora X5? I assume on the original Brainwaves pedal you can just flick the up/down switch for each of the voices, but I don't know how to program that into the Plethora using the Toneprint software :/

      Hi Kalle, I'm working on the full Brainwaves tutorial which should be ready next week, but the parameter you're looking for is ToneBend Tone, inside each of the Voice tabs. The value represents cents (100 cents per semitone, 1200 per octave), positive values bend up, negative bend down. Hope this helps, and sorry for late reply! 🙏🏻

    Hey, Thanks for this video. I am using the Plethora X3 with Mash and I want to use the Mash as a whammy effect as you are showing here. The problem is that when I use the Default Wham preset, it bends to a lower note instead of going up. I tried to explicitly follow your instructions, Is there exact settings I could at least get me in the ball park? I found many screen shots, but they didn't seem to match up with what I'm trying to do.. Thanks to anyone who can help!

    I am wondering (whammy effect) whether I can do a slower way of dive bombing. Pressing the knob the note drops very fast, hardly can hear the 'traveling way' of the note/s. I try to adjust the curve you suggest in the video around 04:00 ish

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  Рік тому +3

      Try adjusting the "Bend time" in the Voice 1 / Voice 2 tab instead, and make them as long as you need. The curve will mostly adjust the sensitivity of the MASH switch in relation to how hard you press. If your bend time is 0 ms, that's roughly how long your dive bomb will last as soon as you hit full pressure, which is why you don't hear the travel time; try picking something like 500 ms to start with, then adjust to taste!

    I am trying to set up the Brainwaves to generate a pitch shift to “detune” the guitar a full step for certain songs. • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  Рік тому

    Please can you help? I'm pulling my hair out and ready to throw my Plethora X5 out the window 🤣
    I've tried replicating your settings, and spent days tweaking every parameter I can find - but I can get the dry signal to go when I add in the pitch-shifted note with my expression pedal. I'm essentially trying to mirror Tom Morello's whammy for the Killing In The Name solo.
    I'm just getting the two-octave higher note added to the existing dry note.
    Also - is there any way to alter the volume of the whammy note? There seems to be a noticeable drop in volume when I 'whammy up'. The two issues may be related.
    Thanks 🙏

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  10 місяців тому

      Sure! I'll take this in steps so that we don't overlook something that might prove important in the end:
      1) ignore my video (we'll come to that in a second); 🤣
      2) plug everything in, including expression pedal (make sure it's calibrated), and load a Brainwaves in an effects slot;
      3) in the Plethora settings, Board, etc, link the Expression Pedal to the Effect modifier;
      4) in the Brainwaves slot, load up the *WHAM* preset (this is the most important bit to make the dry sound go away);
      5) turn both Voice 1 and Voice 2 pots to 96 or thereabouts, i.e. 24 semitones;
      6) ignore the MIX pot, that'll have a flat mapping at 100% wherever you dial it to;
      7) try playing and messing around with the expression pedal.
      This *should* do what you're expecting, and give you the dry signal on heel down, then change to wet signal without changing pitch as you start pressing down gently, and then the pitch will go up, killing the dry signal.
      Back to point 1) above:
      - my video was mostly intended to work around the extreme sensitivity of the MASH switches as soon as you touch them, as well as the level of force needed to press them to 100%. Since this isn't much of an issue with the expression pedal, you can safely ignore it - *unless* you want to tweak the speed at which the expression pedal reaches the full effect. In that case, you can tweak the expression pedal curve within the TonePrint Editor, and bring both ToneBend % curves to 100% at the mid or 3/4 point. Keep in mind that you need them to start only when the FX Chain Mix curve reaches 100%, otherwise you'll hear the dry signal mixed in with the octaves as they climb.
      As for the volume issue, there's nothing you can do inside the Plethora / TonePrint, as the Wet Level is fixed within the Whammy effect type, but I find that running this effect before my distortion goes a long way to even the levels out.
      If this still doesn't work, please let me know and we'll try to figure it out. 👍🏻

      Hi Filipe,
      Thanks so much for your help and detailed instructions 🙂
      Unfortunately, I still have the issue. I don't think it's actually the dry signal I'm hearing with the toe-down. I think it's a wet unison note accompanying the two-octave-up note. Both at equal volume.
      In the mapping screen, both Voice 1 and Voice 2 are set to 'Pitch Shifter - 1. Harmony '
      Both voices are are set at 24 at all points (flat line) and the Mix is set at 100% at all points (flat line) as you stated above.
      On the Expression Pedal screen, the top field is set to 'Pitchshifter - 1. Tonebend %', the middle field to 'Pitchshifter - 2. Tonebed %', and the bottom field to 'Router - FX Chain Mix'.
      The Chain mix starts at 0% and goes to 100% at the second point. Both tonebends start at 0% and go to 100% at the third/middle point.
      Any ideas?

      Different horses on different courses... the Plethora's effects are more along the "traditional" guitar effects lines, whereas those specific EHX are more about emulating other instruments. If you spend enough time with the toneprint editor and the various pitch / modulation effects in the Plethora you might get a few toneprints in the ballpark of those sounds, but if those specific EHX sounds are the ones you want, then just keep it simple and stick to them. 🙂
