- Very rare footage of the free jazz sax master!!!
Previously it was thought that the only footage existing of him was his TV performance in Cecil Taylor's group.
Does anyone have the rest of the video?
Message me if you do!!
if you are the copyright holder and want me to take it down please message me instead of reporting the video. thanks
Albert Ayler with Mary Maria Parks, Allen Blairman drums and yours truly on bass. From concert 1 of 2 at Maeght Foundation
🎧
Thank you for the great music. Do you have any memories to share of Ayler or the performance?
I posted this clip on my fb timeline when it was first published in issue #5 of the Fondation Maeght newsletter. This excerpt is from the beginning of our first concert 25 July 1970. I don’t know if it is even part of the full documentary film “Albert Ayler: Le Dernier Concert” by Jean-Michel Meurice which covers mostly the second concert two nights later after Call Cobbs arrived. Never shown here, but was across venues in Europe in the seventies. It is in the Maeght archives.
@@stevetintweiss Wowza! Incredible! 🤯
I gotta look around for more of this.

Seek out 2022 box set...
7/13/23 Thanks for this, sir. (Happy Birthday, Albert)
I was there!
Hans, I'm sure that you enjoyed in this concert of Albert. Especially because he was at the peak of powers (as documented on both live recordings from Nuits De La Fondation Maegh). Your music from same period was also great and reflects your search of something new and fresh in time of progresive changes in society and culture. From today's perspective it seems, that 60's into '70's were the times in which most of the best music (and movies) was created. Regards from Slovenia!
"Music is the healing force of the universe" - Albert Ayler 🎷
Holy shit! Incredible footage!
WTF is this music.. Why Ayler just played a few notes and I can't stop crying.. These are simple notes from a scale.. Why is it so powerful
He's done so much to be a vessel for pure expression of the human condition. It's the real deal. It's prayer. It's church.
If there's a less wanky way of saying it, i can't think of it at the moment!
Exactly
You're NOT alone.
His sound.... TRASCENDENCE 🙏
If anyone is interested in seeing more Ayler footage, there is a great Live at the Village Vanguard era Ayler group clip in the new Fire Music documentary!! Check it out!!
i wish he'd lived to do a salvation army type version of "rainy day women #12 and 35". i'll have to seek out "fire music". thank you.
I'm having trouble finding this documentary. Is it on UA-cam? Or?
@@a.nobodys.nobody last I checked is available on Criterion Channel
@@scabcastle5786 great, thanks
@@scabcastle5786 thanks , found it right away. This was completely off my radar - very excited
Thank you in the name of mankind!
Just bought the cd box set and it’s really an amazing thing to have in ur collection. These recordings are amazing
Thank you so so much for posting this what a blessing from God this is!
Once in a while I think to do a search and see if any Albert footage has surfaced. I'm glad To have found this and thankful you took the time to share. It's my first time seeing him play. Crazy how little footage of him exists ! You'd think he was from the turn of the century!
Same for me. You know he recorded a whole set with the BBC in London. They found it so triggering that they actually burned the tapes. Never even showed it. Tragic
@@nickbaigent2714 shaking my head right now. Can't imagine the mental rigidity necessary to literally destroy a record of someone expressing themselves like that. Can't fathom such a thing. Why destroy it!?
@@a.nobodys.nobody I know. It’s kinda scary how fucked up that was. It was Video too. A whole set on video. Tragic loss

There is too a filmed recording of Albert at the Sigma Festival in Bordeaux in 1966.
Is the footage publicly available? I would love to see it! 66 was a great year for Ayler
Is this the footage that was in the Fire Music doc?

Can the tv show with cecil taylor be found on youtube?
I believe only the audio. Search Cecil Taylor - Four. There is footage on the DVD My Name Is Albert Ayler. You can pirate this DVD on ru tracker, but I am not condoning this illegal activity 😉
