This was the absolute perfect ending to The Hobbit trilogy. Very well done.
ThomasStreet Couldn't have asked for a better ending. I was wondering and worried about how they were going to end it, knowing that it has to lead into LOTR, but this was perfect.
This ending was why Peter Jackson had to not only be a part of it but most of all direct the Hobbit Trilogy and he bined the Trilogy just right.
and the perfect begining to the lord of the rings trilogy
It’s just such a shame Peter Jackson didn’t realise that in FOTR the map was half covered by papers when Gandalf picks it up to look at it,but it is the best ending to the hobbit possible
@@Makeitso2023 He also changed the map so that it said "Here of old was Thror..." instead of "Here of old was Thrain..." and Greenwood the Great instead of Mirkwood.
That ending was so damn clever. And of course I teared up.
We all cried in the theater, and clapped and cheered for 3 straight minutes during the end credits 👏😭
@@DTSsince2016 I always check if there is a post credit scene like Marvels
But the Hobbit trilogy was a very sad ending
This movie is the best way of expressing the phrase “it’s all about the journey, not the destination”
Dalinar?
It's also about stepping out of your comfort zone to shape yourself and evolve the best you can.
@@fianavandebumbo3198 I think that's more of Kaladin's thing.
Seeing the end of the hobbit at the movies totally broke my heart.. Realising we wont see anything as good as the Lotr and The Hobbit.. Imma keep watching this
+Pure Desty I liked The Hobbit, but I LOVED Lotr
I wished bilbo had been to more adventures I really like him better than Frodo for me
@@mysteriousdude6296 Never read the books, so this trilogy brought me much needed perspective into Bilbo's character and the ring's corruption on it's barer.

Rest in piece Ian Holm. You'll live on in our memories ánd on film.
Rest in Valinor, Bilbo
This scene of the movie made me cry. But then again, every scene of the movie made me cry.
I love how they ended the hobbit the exact same way they started LOTR... Its just to show that they were always part of the same story but it was really good
Dom Swinchin, its just that I wished there was more scenes between younger Bilbo from BOFTA and older Bilbo from FOTR at least ones that were still left from the Hobbit book with appendices and maybe indirect sources from either History of Middle-Earth or The Silmarillion.
***** yea, they could have done that but then again, this was just older Bilbo writing what happened, so it could have been boring watching older Bilbo just writing
Dom Swinchin, its doesn't have to be about older Bilbo writing but more with earlier start of Concerning Hobbit liked when Bilbo (either as Martin Freeman or Ian Holm) adopted the young Frodo after his parents drowned on Brandywine River. Frodo became good childhood friends with his cousins/kins Merry and Pippin including noticeable Sam somewhere in there. Bilbo gets a visit by Balin (with maybe his expedition adding Ori and Oin) in Bag-End before going to reclaim the ancient kingdom of Moria.
I mean come on these at least would suffice as a falling action and resolution before the grande finale of The Hobbit.
***** right right ok
I am a man, but I cry like a baby when I saw this.
I have a strong s feeling that this trilogy should have been named "there and back again"
It was: The Hobbit. J.R.R Tolkien wrote on the opening pages: This book is called The Hobbit or There & Back Again. It was up to tge reader how they wanted to know it as.
This is the most perfect ending in cinema history: when it gives you that reminiscence of the previous fantasy work.
First time i saw this i instantly knew what was happening, and i LOVED IT!!!!!
I have to admit, that was a hell of a way to not only end one series, but to start the next.
I would be honored to be invited in Bag-End. I promise to be a humble guest, to be as quiet as possible, as long as I can hear Bilbo's stories and discuss with... Frodo, my hero, my idol. I love him, I adore him.
+Lia Ballon I'm pretty sure I would do like Gandalf and whack my head a good one on the ceiling beams.
Well... I'm sure that me too! ^_^
Well you may not be able to talk to them but they did recreate bag-end and they did make it to where people can go there and walk through the town and his house look it up online you'll know what I mean
@@ethan-dg9xj 🤩 cool !!!
I’d like to go see that online, like you’re saying !!!
I'd adore gandalf's fireworks and I'm sure most everyone would wish to live in the shire
No thank you! We dont want anymore visitors, well wishes or distant relations!
"And what about very old friends?"
jahpolley *Opens the door* Gandalf?!
thanks guys, I watched the video too
I cried at the movies when I saw this lol My childhood described in two trilogies lol
Fantastic ending, and the beginning of Lord of the Rings.
+Ben Dover I agree!
@@zorrothefox2000 Awesome I think they should go back to The Fellowship of the Ring and change a little bit and add some footage from the end of the third Hobbit movie?
@@craigprentice5634 Maybe they will! I definitely believe that they should replace the LOTR cave/Gollum sequence in the prologue with excerpts from the similar sequence in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
@@zorrothefox2000 replace it with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf headed back to the Shire from the Lonely Mountain and open up with the sequence from the end of the third Hobbit movie
@@craigprentice5634 Replace the cave/Gollum sequence altogether? No, I don't think so. That sequence is needed to show how Bilbo got the Ring, to begin with, since that's what the LOTR trilogy is about. And to foreshadow Gollum's role in that trilogy.
Also, I like how everyone thinks they’re being clever by pointing out the delay in Bilbo opening the door.
Like that even matters in the slightest.
All the dislikes are from Visitors, Well-Wishers, and Distant Relations.
That's true lol and Sackville-Bagginses as well....
I like how they went to the effort to recreate this scene from a different perspective and then fuck up the timing between Gandalf saying "and what about very old friends" and Bilbo opening the door.
Just think of it in terms of storytelling, it was just sped up a little to get Bilbo to Gandalf faster. In the Fellowship of the Ring, Bilbo would have to have been stood near the door to come out that quick. In An Unexpected Journey, he was obviously sat down when Gandalf knocked at the door. It makes more sense in terms of storytelling that he is sat down as the camera moves towards the map, if he was near the door it would have been too sudden and Bilbo wouldn't of been shown with the ring, as the scene is designed to connect the two trilogys. Of course at the time Peter Jackson didn't know that years later he would use the scene again in the Hobbit, but as I mentioned earlier, speeding up the scene in Fellowship feels better than waiting for him to get to the door when he is sat down in The Hobbit. Peter Jackson obviously didn't speed up the scene in Fellowship when he shot it all those years ago, because he didn't know he would eventually connect them together. In your own mind, in terms of the story it feels organic. It is the viewer who is speeding the scene up because it makes sense for the scene to play out as quickly as possible, and not be waiting for Bilbo to get to that door. It's cheating a bit, but it makes storytelling sense.
RIP Ian Holm, you will be missed greatly.
Hobbit trilogy ends there from where lotr trilogy begins. What an editing.
When a Story Ends another one Beggins ☝🏽
You mean "Baggins?"
He means "Begins"
I saw what you did there…
Truly 'there and back again'.
Best ending scene ever ❤️

What a beautiful ending to the Hobbit trilogy. And a beautiful song from Billy Boyd in the end credits.
as much that scene was simple as much it was so emotional to me bring back alot of great memories .. peter is real good with ending scenes and how he connect scenes between LOTR and the hobbit..
Love the ending of hobbit 3 and great job man
So awesome thank you very much for this...:)
***** :DDD
Rest in Peace Bilbo
I watched LOTR when I was maybe around 7-9 years old. I went to college and then found out that there was an incoming trilogy, The Hobbit. After waiting for the third part, I watched it. When I saw this as the ending, there was this shiver in my spine and I didn't even realize I was teary-eyed. From 2006, the day I watched it, to 2014.. Everything changed, I just miss the old days.
Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful way to bring all 6 films full circle. Great edit BTW.
Before The Battle of the Five Armies came out, people on the IMDb forums were all guessing on how it was going to end and transition to the Lord of the Rings. I couldn't understand why as they were clearly going to go back to this scene since the Hobbit Trilogy was basically Bilbo reminiscing his adventures as he he knew that his 111th birthday celebration was happening. I predicted that it was going to end like this and I was right.
I was wondering this at the end of the movie. Thank you for actually doing it!
They even made sure they timed the door opening right, absolutely love it!
Also RIP Ian Holm
Gandalf: You haven't aged a day.
Someone clearly needs glasses.
for being a hobbit and being 111 years old he looks really young
Thank you for this Maxe!
BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS! this is precaous
Makes me cry. Instantly
i was so shocked and happy when i watched this
Great job with the segue between the two films that were made years apart !!!
many years old still perfect
Thank you so much for this. :)
cut out "you haven't aged a day" :P
Hussain Pradhan True. Like Smeagol, Bilbo wasn't supposed to have aged since he found the ring.
When they made Lord of the rings, they didn't plan on making The Hobbit too, and in the flashback scenes in the fellowship of the ring, you see Ian Holm finding the ring.
@@BarbaraGordonBurnside Oh, my understanding is that you still visibly age, just not as much, but also your lifespan is extended, despite how old you look. I mean the fact that Gollum was over 500 years old definitely shows.
Genau das wollte ich auch machen, sobald die bluray draußen ist:)
Perfekt👍
And as they say... The rest is history!
Simplemente perfecto el final del Hobbit, donde ahí acaba una historia empieza otra
THIS IS BEAUTIFUL
This was absolutely best of the best of the best perfect super stupendous ending
what a perfect video!
Beautiful
that awesome!!
Thank God Peter Jackson convinced Ian Holm to come back to do The Hobbit. Ian originally turned down the offer because with his medical condition, he didn't think he could play the part. PJ told him they could make it happen and that they did. PJ gave us both Ian and Christopher Lee's last performances.
PJ wasn't supposed to do the Hobbit. It was Guillermo Del Toro.
Yep. I definitely cried at this point.
This is so cool...that is all I can say right now.
"And what happened next?"
*"I think you already know the rest."*
was beautiful :)
Bilbo finished his book in Rivendell instead of this they should have had that scene where Frodo arrived in Rivendell after his encounter with the Nazgul
Bad idea, just like if they had the framing device take place on the ship to the Grey Havens after the end of ROTK. It basically spoils The Lord of the Rings for newcomers that started with The Hobbit. And it would also leave them wondering why the old Bilbo is suddenly in Rivendell when last we saw him it was on the day of his birthday.
Believe me, the way they handled the framing device was perfect. It's the morning of Bilbo's 111th birthday, sixty years after his adventures with the Company, his nephew Frodo is going outside to meet Gandalf, and he's reminiscing on his past as he continues writing in his book (as we see in the FOTR extended edition) and fumbling with the Ring. Then Gandalf knocks on his door and Bilbo opens it to let him in. It's a well-made and to-the-point framing device that connects it to The Lord of the Rings without spoiling anything that happens in that trilogy. That way, you don't feel left in the dark if you decided to watch The Hobbit first.
Awesome I was to open it like that in the The Fellowship of the Ring at the beginning
Just beautiful ending and beautiful opening :')
When Gandalf knock on the door we should seen bilbo talking and run to the door and opening it and see him hugging Gandalf in lord of the rings
The only 2 things that have made me cry, this correlation and The Riders of Rohan arriving to Minas Tirith

Back when Bilbo was watching that damn thing I was like 'Curse that shit!' but then the knock knock sounded like 'Dude OLD FRIEND COMING!' Manly tears...
I loved the Hobbit film very very very very much...it was like I was in the part their journey. wow! I have watched Hobbit triology at a strech from evening to night. I haven't seen The Lord of The Rings yet.
It ended where we started 17 years ago. With a hole in the ground.
Wow i dont see this part in the movie 😳😐.Thank you very much for this video
it's sad that this is the last lord of the rings/hobbit movie ever let's hope 2 of them doesn't get remade there perfect just the way they are
goodbye lord of the rings/hobbit movies.
That's probably why Amazon's TV series won't be retelling the story shown in these movies. They'll be telling new stories set in the Second Age instead.
@@Bauglir100 Is the Second Age before or after LOTR?
@@Wapak95
The Second Age is the age of Numenor, of the forging of the Great Rings, and when Sauron was defeated for the first time and lost the One Ring.
The Third Age is the age that The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings take place in.
This made me cry a little at the end of the hobbit
Peter Jackson is a god
+education Junkie Tolkien is a God. Without him, none of this would be possible.
If he was a god he would’ve started production on Tintin 2 years ago
I legitimately cannot give him enough praise. It hurts when whiners on the internet say horrible stuff about him cause you can see in the behind-the-scenes that he put an obscene amount of work and passion into making these films and seems like a decent boss to boot. And that's all with Warner Bros. breathing down his neck and actively trying to make the films bad behind his back.
This is the scene I picture when Coronavirus finally dies and the human race can return to normality
Slightly uneven, but a very nice side-by-side edit of both scenes.
0:13 Gandalf: And what about *very old friends?*
Best triology of all time
It took me by surprise when they put that in the end.
I love how you can now sort of watch this in a loop, just forget about the Grey Havens. Breaks my heart anyway. I´ll just pretend nothing had happened and everyone is still living happily in the Shire and Bilbo continues to not age ^^.
I feel like that misses Tolkien's points about growth and the price that heroes pay, though. Bilbo and Frodo pass into the West because it is there that their hearts can find peace.
damn, I wanna cry 😥
and thus one tale has ended. And another one begun
Who put onions here?
Just like star wars, Rouge One then part 4. Sad : (
I love this movie
😘😘😘💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
RIP Bilbo
If only the timing was better this would have been perfect.
Yeah, the dramatic pause before Gandalf's "And what about very old friends line", the brief moment that Bilbo takes to walk to the door, and the removal of Gandalf's "You haven't aged a day." line definitely throw it off a bit, but it's still a great ending.
Ha, walks into the other screen
It ended the way it started.

Awesome I think they should go back to The Fellowship of the Ring and change a little bit and add some footage from the end of the third Hobbit movie in the beginning of the Fellowship of the Ring?
perfect sinc
The best ending of saga
1 scene is from The Fellowship Of The Ring
The ending of the Hobbit & beginning of LOTR form a perfect circle symbolising the One Ring itself...
Bem loko.
Yees
I like it but when but before he opens the door the timing is a few seconds off.
The end of the Hobbit and the beginning of Lord of the Rings ❤
Inconsistencies like that bug the heck out of me.
Funny, I just realized there was a continuity error, when Gandalf came in there were a couple papers on top of the map he moved while picking it up in LOTR.
Me gusto el final del hobbit aunque ahí quiere decir que ahora vendría una aventura contra un mal mayor
Inded, the both movies are well linked!
Can you add some videos with Alfried? He is fun! He remembers me the series the "Blackadder" with Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean)! XD
I just wanted that rat to die
The rare fun moments in this epic and beautiful third episode! In my opinion, they are lacking.
What happened to "You haven't aged a day?" ;P
Well he kind of did age. XD
***** it wasn't really so much of a whisper. I suspect they just took it out because he doesn't look like martin freeman anymore and that they will take it out of LOTR in the remastered edition.
Thaddeus Cornell That would be pretty horrible if they did that, and would make Peter Jackson into George Lucas.02.
Retconning facts from LOTR and the books just to service the continuity of the hobbit trilogy. It's the Hobbit trilogy that made this error, not Lord of the rings. It still doesn;t make sense that this aging happened, when Smeagol already lived for thousands of years because of the ring, and once the ring was destroyed, in his final scenes in Return of the King Bilbo seems to have aged really rapidly, so from the Lord of the rings, it's undeniable that the ring held back his physical ability to age.
Barbara Gordon what would you expect from a film that came out almost a decade later? Ian Holm grew too frail to do everything that would be required from the role.
The correcting of the line was a necessary change and Tolkien did a necessary change in his hobbit book as well. Did you know in the original hobbit book that gollum was friendly and had no intention of eating bilbo? When LOTR came out Tolkien himself pulled a "George Lucas" and changed the entire chapter about gollum and the original went out of print (and had only been printed in the UK before the change).
Don't let hatred of the hobbit movies cloud everything.
Well that seems to have shut her up. I hate people that can't understand that an adaptation isn't meant to be an exact replica.
That delay
Omg
I like how The Hobbit ends, because while The Lord of the Rings had a definitive ending and you knew that there wouldn't be anymore stories that followed, The Hobbit shows that it's not really the end, since The Lord of the Rings follows.
You know it's LotR when the like ratio is 1000 to 7.
It always bothered me that in LOTR bilbo answers the door almost the second Gandalf stopped talking as if bilbo went for the door as soon as he heard the door or was shouting from right on the opposite side of the door but in the hobbit bilbo takes a solid 5 seconds extra to open the door. Idk little details matter to me
