  • Hey everyone I hope you’re having a great day! In todays video we go over a question that I have seen pop up a lot recently in the online forms. Is an M113k car a great platform for big power? I hope to answer that question and provide you with some prices for the more common build questions out there.

I’ve got an E55 with an LSD, long tube headers, 63mm injectors, a forced induction Interchiller kit (5 degree C on a 30 degree C day), Bosch intercooler pump ,tj merry transmission tune, black engine mounts, an intake kit, belt wrap kit,, 83mm pulley, bigger radiator, bigger fuel pump, and a bunch of other stuff.
It all makes it very fun to drive.
I’ll get a 105mm throttle body soon and that will be that.
They’re a great car and I highly recommend mods.

Getting a CLS55 this week, and you just voiced my entire logic behind choosing it :)

CL55 was the Flagship. S class coupe with every bit of technology Mercedes and AMG had.

Solid advice here. I own one of the Designo mocha black cars that you referenced. Lovely spec but I paid a hell of a lot more than $15k for it! lol
I also agree with your stance on the Airmatic. It rides well and I’ve never been in a converted E55 that felt right. An occasional air strut replacement is just the price you pay. I also think it’s gotten more of a bad rap than it deserves due to it being mixed up with the horrible ABC suspension. The Airmatic is a simple system and is easy to troubleshoot if anything goes wrong.

Also worth mentioning the added advantage of adjustable ride height! I would never be able to enter my garage without airmatic due to the fact that the cats sit so low when you have longtube headers and decently large (not Chinese) cats underneath the car.

Just got my first m113k car a few months ago with the cl55 never seen such a community and mod accessible car, I was literally looking through the vrp site for like 2 hours at all of the different way I can go with building this motor

Just got my '06 E55 this year and IMO the M113k is a fantastic engine in stock form, but it also has a ton of mod potential should you want more power. Last I saw some guys are making close to 700 WHP on a stock longblock. It's definitely a stout engine.
If you're wanting more power these engines have a lot of aftermarket support now and the community surrounding these cars on the various FB groups and here on UA-cam is top notch. Lots of knowledgeable and helpful people when you have any kind of question about maintenance, repairs or modifications.
I would love a CL55 or SL55, maybe someday I'll have one but the four door / mid size E class just makes the most sense right now as it's very practical and I wanted to avoid the maintenance cost of ABC suspension. S55 would be a world class ride for long distance driving but I don't do much of that where I live. The E class is plenty comfy already though.
I've heard conflicting opinions on split cooling vs. not split but to me it makes sense to split it. Same with clutched pulleys vs non clutched. I'm still doing my research on those two mods. Mid length headers are another exhaust upgrade option, almost half the price of long tubes but I don't know what the power difference between the two is. You can always add cats to either if you live in an emissions area, just make sure you get good quality aftermarket high flow cats.
I'm 100% with you on air suspension vs converting to coilovers. IMO the Airmatic system was one of the major selling points of these cars that were $80k+ when new (about $120k in 2023 after inflation). Although people do seem to like them, I don't see how a $1500 set of aftermarket coilovers would be an improvement unless you're just using the car for racing and want the weight savings. Yeah the Airmatic parts are expensive to replace, but they last 15+ years and 100k+ miles and the system is actually pretty simple to work on. I love that I can cruise around low and then raise the car up should I encounter a steep driveway or something. I'm past my days of crawling over speed bumps diagonally and still scraping my exhaust with friends in the car... that was 20 some years ago and I told myself one day I'll have one of those amazing Mercedes V8 Kompressor cars... and now I do 😁

So i have written with some guys who sell parts for the m113k here in germany, since i have a cls 55 amg for 2,5 years now. It was my dream car since 15 years when i have first seen a cls 55 amg at a local dealership when i was 7 years old😄 .
700Wheel horses is not achievable on stock block because the rods and pistons wont withstand that.
Split cooling is not mandatory but everyone is telling you to do it if you start to mod your m113k, and you actually can DIY it for like 60 bucks.
Mid length headers are the best, if you still want to use your oem cats or high flows on the same position as original.
Backpressure is another thing with headers, because you will loose boost if you go straight pipe with longtubes.
Pulley wise i havent informed myself because in my opinion a clutch delete is not necessary if you drive your car on the streets but every one has his own opinion.
Airmatic is a very good system but they tend to go bad when they get old but once you spend some money to replace the struts for ex. there shouldnt be a problem for a longer time period with that system.
Many people say that you have to loop the fuel rail due to fuel starvation on cylinder 8 so it wont run too lean and burn out and kill the engine. No one understands why it works but it works, but only if you have other mods installed.
In my opinion a good upgrade is upgrading the transmission control unit (TCU) it will shift faster, and you can raise the rev limit to 6500 and some will even raise it to 7000.

The M113K motors are basically limited to 17psi or less of boost when using the stock ECM and TCU. Depending on mods it is hard to get to 700whp but just over 600whp is plenty do-able. My 2005 CL55 has just over 600 to the wheels and it is stupid fast.@@gamburger7979

I fell in love with the platform. Motor is a beast. Trans I feel otherwise about but it’s still pretty reliable. Just wish that 7g were In these. Easily a 500hp beast with headers and a good tune.. I cannot wait to upgrade my pulley. Picking up another m113k in 3 days ❤

DIdn't know about the SLR trans tune - I have an "04 SL55 - it is as you said very fast especially for the weight - with the ABC / Vario roof its a 2 seater that weighs almost as much as a SUV, but still runs a 12 sec 1/4 mile and hits 60 in about 4 seconds. I agree the ABC suspension is a work of art - and is crazy expensive to fix - I lost a ABC pump and accumulators and it was $7K.

Wow! That's insane man $7k for a pump and accumulators! Did you have a shop do it or yourself?

Would it makes sense to split the coolant if I am keeping it stock. Other than a transmission tune.
