AUGUST 1st 2020 UPDATE: HEATWAVE 98 IS AVAILABLE AGAIN! This video was blocked (thanks Sony), so there's a few edits:
3:46 shortened the Highway to Hell intro
39:00 cut a few seconds of Duel of the Fates
1:48:19 trimmed the end of the Wrestling is Awesome segment
Just thought you should know! I figure this is preferable to the video being blocked or reuploading the entire thing!
All the best lads, love Jay
    💚
p.s. happy TNA August 1 Warning!

My views on Tommy Dreamer. Everything that happens to him is all his character's fault if you think about it. Sandman caning him? His fault. His feud with Raven? His fault too. Beulah getting a 3D? Guess who's fault? His. That was his whole character.

Probably my favorite ppv of any promotion ever. First ppv I ever bought with my own money. 13 year old me mowed both my neighbor's lawns to get the money and I remember dialing the number to order the ppv myself. Recorded it on vhs and I might still have the tape somewhere around my house. I flipped out for the Awesome-Tanaka power bomb thru the table outside the ring spot and remember rewinding it multiple times to watch it again later that night. So good

I always called Justin Credible "Master Splinter" when I watched the ECW PPV's with my buddies. He was a hybrid Human/Rat created in some crazy lab experiment along with Nicole Bass. Oh and BTW Nicole Bass claimed in Shoot interviews that Chyna would steal all of her gimmicks in WWE and wanted to get her fired as security for her "Spot". It kinda does make sense when you think about her very short tenure in WWE. I would've popped pretty hard for a Chyna-Bass feud back in those good ol' days.

As it regards the Bam Bam/ Taz match, it was said that they engaged in "short cut bullshit" and that they should have instead started with a " good, solid, heated wrestling match." While I'd have enjoyed that as well, it was a heated feud and billed as a DEATH MATCH. If they had a heated wrestling match, it would defeat the purpose to having a death match blow off to the feud. Just my opinion.

So Bruce Prichard and JR have both said recently that the reason why Taz was "dead" after his debut was that during his match with Kurt, Vince watched the whole thing. There was the one suplex that Kurt "jumped" to help Taz (Taz doesn't like to have help, he just muscles guys up, it lets him be more in control), Kurt landed right on his head and neck. After that Vince said "You need to tell him to change his move set, he can't do that stuff anymore". So Taz being Taz....ruined Taz. Sucks as he had so much potential, plus JR said he had no idea who Taz was when his real name came across his desk lol

    • @RobMcDougall
      @RobMcDougall 4 роки тому +4

Taz has talked about this on his podcast as well - he says it was a miscommunication between him and Angle (Angle jumps but Taz isn't set yet) and rather than just throwing him and risking it he put Angle back down and reset before doing the suplex to be safe; as you say this apparently made the people in charge nervous (even though it was him focusing on safety that made it noticeable).
You can't have the Human Suplex Machine not do suplexes, so he basically had to go a different direction and we ended up with the "Thug Life" character :/

eh, cup of coffee ... Great Muta invented interest in Japanese wrestling in America. I think it's probably a thing that you guys over in Ireland didn't see 1989 WCW ... Muta was THE MAN and left an impression and it's amazing to realize he was only there a year.

So happy to see guys actually having a laugh and some fun when it comes to wrestling because ultimately it's the reason we watch it. Thanks for the awesome show guys keep it up

Awesome v. Tanaka 2 is pretty gnarly too. Tanaka takes like 6 chair shots to the head and no sells them. And at least 2 awesome bombs to the tables outside the ring. Oh and wins the match in between.

    “Special Police Delta Red Ranger”
Jay combined the PR name and the Sentai name? If that was unintentional it works well. makes a nice little Easter egg to people who watched SPD and Dekaranger.

Awesome vs Tanaka @ Heatwave98 is my favorite ECW match ever.. absolutely disgusting but incredible. I grew up in Detroit, which is about 600 miles from Philadelphia. Late at night on different public access / regional network channels we'd occasionally see this dark, shoddy 30-60 minute ECW paid programming.. As a 10 year old kid at the time who only knew WWF / WCW, it looked like the coolest thing ever. Felt like I was seeing something I wasn't supposed to. The internet was nothing like it is now, as badly as I wanted to know more about ECW it felt like it was impossibly far away at the time. I got older and my interest in wrestling waned. Then I randomly started watching again around 2013/2014, got WWE Network and immersed myself in all the ECW I missed out on. I'm so glad I finally got to check it out but it would have been amazing to actually see it and live it in real time.

Tanaka and Awesome had main event bouts on ECW On TNN. Those shows were pretty solid at times. I was amazed how Heyman gave away these main event bouts on tv.
