I watched this event live and believe me there was definitely a part of me that night that thought that things could have gotten rather violent had Cena won his match. For starters I didn't put it past Vince to have his guy win even at an ECW show, and the fans were RELENTLESS that night (and drunk) so you knew that if Cena had won things were definitely going to spill over and things probably would have ended pretty badly. I think even Vince wasn't bold enough to piss off this ECW crowd..

He tapped out to Kurt Angle at No mercy 2003 and No Way out 2004, was last eliminated by Batista at Royal rumble 2005, and only pin was when Edge cashed in his MITB briefcase after the Elimination chamber match.
Think the problem with the Eugene character was that lasted too long and there was no where to go after a certain point. I actually thought that for awhile WWE handled it well. The heat was very much on the heels and I thought they made Eugene quite empowering. But then the lost the plot later. And the idea that the Sandman beating up on someone whose handicap is cool, is just tasteless.
Agreed. In all fairness, though, was there a single aspect of the Sandman character that wasn't rooted deeply in tastelessness? You could argue that they were just being consistent, lol.
I think Eugene represented cheesy WWE creative, like a mid 90s cartoon character and Sandman was rated R just demolishing it. Like Stone Cold beating up Doink the Clown or something.

The context that a John Cena heel turn was actually being played with and very nearly happened at Unforgiven 2006 (three or four months after this), Cena playing up the heel act in the main event could legit have been foreshadowing for him to strike back against regular audiences

I'm glad when you where talking about Cena you mentioned his first few months on Raw and his opponents at the time (Christian , Angle , Shawn Micheals , and Jericho) , because I think that was a HUGE part about why some of the crowds started to turn on him. It would be like now with Reigns they decide to give him a super push and put him over CM Punk , Daniel Bryan , Ceasaro , and Ziggler . You would pretty much guarantee a portion of the crowd would turn on him.

The best thing about the reaction to Cena that night was that every chant was legitimate. That was the wrestling fan berating the face of "sports-entertainment". The fans told him "You Can't Wrestle" and they were 100% right. Back then he couldn't wrestle. He did his shtick night after night resting on his laurels for about 4 years by that point, and that night he was hit in the face by reality. This match is a very significant moment in Cena's career because it forced him to move outside his WWE safe zone, and since then you can see he has really worked on his craft. This was the night that he matured as an in ring performer.
He still was very much the same exact wrestler until about 2010 when he started doing that weird flying legdrop. This match did absolutely nothing. He got the last laugh because a lot of those geeks bought anti-Cena merch that he got bonuses from and they saw One Night Stand turn slowly into Extreme Rules while ECW on Sci-Fi was absolute dogshit and pissed on the legacy of the actual ECW while main-evented Wrestlemania for the next 6 years.
@@aidyn7758 I didn't say anything the lads didn't say in the video. Cena from 2012 onwards was the only time I felt he looked like a main event wrestler. It's nothing new, it's just the most prominent example. So, old Cena = crock of shit. Developed, experienced Cena ( like from '14 to '17 whixh I would call his best years) = much better
Randy winning the title at Summerslam? OSW you are such a tease. Everyone knows that he found it after it went missing at Wrestlemania and I'm totally not typing this at gunpoint by Vince Mcmahon.
Always great to listen to you guys, and this one didn't disappoint! Particularly cracked up at your impressions of the bad entrance themes. I mean with Sandman, he may as well have come out to Coldplay and it would've had the same effect! And now we wait for December to Dismember
I'd say Cena and RVD can be compared like this: RVD started out great with good fundamentals, a great and innovative moveset and with great agility, enabling him to have amazing, action-packed matches. But then he never changed that style, never bothered with really telling a good story in his matches and when he got older he also got slower (and honestly didn't seem to care that much anymore) and the quality of his work started to detiriorate. Cena on the other hand started out rather bad, with bad fundamentals, a basic and boring moveset and just looking very clunky in the ring for at least the first 4-5 years, making his matches mediocre if he didn't have an absolute master like Angle or Jericho to lead him through it. Then he learned more moves, learned how to tell stories in the ring and nowadays with the right opponent, he usually has the match of the night on any card he's on. I totally agree with the statement that Cena's best matches are better than RVD's best matches. I think 2013-2016 Cena vs 1998 RVD would've been amazing and would've blown the match on this PPV out of the water.
Adding moves no, but putting them in the proper context however is king.. I'd agree that RVD never became a tremendous story teller while CENA INDEED learned how to be outstanding. (How could he not, nite after nite he was paired with some of the TRULY great workers in the history of the industry. If he didn't become a great worker he'd have to be an incpable moron or retarded) RVD'S ECW stuff at least W JERRY LYNN had physical Storytelling.
Nothing is more indicative of Vince McMahons destruction of the wrestling world for an entire generation than some idiot saying something like "moves dont matter". You do realize that the entire point of wrestling is.. the wrestling... and that that consists of... wait for it... wrestling moves.. right?
This was during the WWE Fantasy game era and I had Sandman. Why? Each weapon shot, outside of a hardcore match, was worth three very valuable points. Taking Sandman was a gamble, but if he made an appearance and hit a couple of cane shots, he was well worth his tiny price tag. He proceeded to hit 17. I was jumping for joy watching him slaughter Eugene. The first part was great, but him getting hit a shit load of times, right in a row, as they were leaving is what had me celebrating. I finished 7/400,000+ that season, Sandman being a major reason why.
See I liked the Big Show in this, he looked like a monster. Had things not gone south the way they did we might have got some pretty great matches. I mean he actually hit a move and it looked amazing. If I recall him and Ric Flair had a pretty alright Hardcore match for the ECW Title one time for no reason.
I argue that back in the 90s, show would have been a good heel for ECW if he went there instead of WWE. Because of how different he is. The original ECW would have made him play a rich jerk who’s almost 7’ and the ECW fans would throw trash and he can take it. I’m pro Big Show to ECW but not pro big show on WWE-ECW if that makes sense.
to think that people would think that Edge was somehow less hardcore, despite being in TLC 1 and 2, in the original Money in the Bank, and making a career out of spearing people off or through things, is insane.
I was there..and when Cena came out everyone got together everything they could throw and in the section there were conversations happening as to who would keep their souvenir chair and who would throw it. It was an amazing atmosphere.
Thanks for the videos. You guys are great and it just reminds me of getting loaded on sugar and watching WCW (in my day) witg neighborhood friends, playing goldeneye or perfect dark. Thank you for your content, you guys are pretty funny at times
Cena throwing his shirt repeatedly into to crowd was the early (and more extreme) version of when Cody’s weight belt was thrown back at him in a tag match during his final few months at AEW
There's probably been some unique and crazy signs in WWE' s history. Unfortunately when you go back and watch older attitude era shows they end up blurring a lot of them out! I'd sure like to know what some of those said.
Wasn't Jerry a heel in 2002-2005 until JR was fired? I distinctly remember Lawler's obnoxious and terrible heel commentary during the Booker T vs Riple H feud.
I feel bad for Rey because I don't want his entire legacy to be jokes about his knees. I remember the great matches, the epic storylines and feuds, yet everyone else just seems to remwmber his injuries :( Anyway, great review as always guys. Take a bow.
How many times has Big Show turned? Not counting when he debut as a heel for WCW in the summer of '95, at least 28, or about one turn every 18 months. www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/1o04ph/history_of_big_show_heelface_turns/
It's interesting to note that they went from a "Traditional" ECW ring in '05 to a dressed up WWE ring with ropes instead of cables, and smaller turnbuckle pads. Foreshadowing for the future? The first step in ECW becoming "Federationized"
@1:28:46 I totally agree with him tbh, like tho RVD did have some great matches and storylines, but I believe Cena was just able to pull the WWE crowd into it just that little bit more and get them invested in him no matter his role when he was the rapper or the hustle, loyalty, and respect guy lol. And like when he comes out and the crowd is just booing him relentlessly, even if they’re going to boo him when he comes out and does any little thing, he still just has them so invested in his character or “lack there of” ig you could say sometimes according to some folks, he always had people invested in his matches and I totally agree with him. And that’s not to say RVD didn’t have some wonderful matches that everyone, including myself, enjoyed cause he certainly did, but also Cena was in the spotlight and in the Main Event spot more consistently than RVD, and since the fans knew Vince would prolly never put all of his eggs in the Van Dam basket for him to hold the belt near as much as Cena or nearly as long as him either, so maybe that’s why it felt Cena’s matches were better and people were more invested. And plus he was just so over with kids and girls basically that he it was ridiculous and he’ll always be over with the kids I’m sure if he keeps up the whole HLR character forever lol.
thanks for the upload brahs! always love your reviews and been waiting on this one in a long time and i swear the next shirt has to be "what bar?" i would totally rock that shirt! or "im an OSW guy"
I.guess the lads didn't realize at the time that Nick Dinsmore pitched the Eugene gimmick to Vince initially? As tasteless as it was in retrospect, it was his own machination that did him in.
And I’ve also heard a lot of wrestlers say that taking most of RVD’s moves like even the rolling thunder was so hard to take and it always hurt and so did the frog splash.
cena committing so long to that shirt throw is one of the best wrasslin' moments ever. i absolutely love that he just leaned in to it and kept throwing it to different parts of the crowd. god, cena was great sometimes.

Fantastic episode brahs! Especially liked the shoutout to all the Superbrahs, it's nice to see you're still down to earth with the fans :)
Always great to listen to you guys, and this one didn't disappoint! Particularly cracked up at your impressions of the bad entrance themes. I mean with Sandman, he may as well have come out to Coldplay and it would've had the same effect!
And now we wait for December to Dismember
Cena Brah! You're making people riot Brah!
sainttrunks1982 Reference to Crush telling Doink that he's making kids 'cry brah'....See the Wrestlemania IX review for original audio on that
Expect no one started a riot....
Making grown men cry, Brah!
Making grown men cry, Brah!
"...One Night Stand was now going to be an annual event.." KIND OF DEFEATS THE NAME OF THE PPV 'ONE NIGHT STAND' DAMMIT!
Cena didn't need to add moves to make him better. MOOVZ don't make a wrestler better.. ffs, what a mark.
Adding moves no, but putting them in the proper context however is king..
I'd agree that RVD never became a tremendous story teller while CENA INDEED learned how to be outstanding. (How could he not, nite after nite he was paired with some of the TRULY great workers in the history of the industry. If he didn't become a great worker he'd have to be an incpable moron or retarded)
RVD'S ECW stuff at least W JERRY LYNN had physical Storytelling.
@@PatkaBoy831 yeah they do. Watching the same moves over and over again is boring, its better to add more to change it up
Shows how much charisma is valued over talent huh?
Nothing is more indicative of Vince McMahons destruction of the wrestling world for an entire generation than some idiot saying something like "moves dont matter". You do realize that the entire point of wrestling is.. the wrestling... and that that consists of... wait for it... wrestling moves.. right?
Totally love these reviews. I am addicted. Thanks guys!
"OH MY GOD he hit a move!! How EXTREME THIS IS!!"
REALLY looking forward to December to Dismember, as it's the only one of the ECW Saga I haven't seen!
Great episode guys! But no "What bar?"
The true essence of "say the line!"
It's with writing like this and knowing that Vince approved it to be on air is what made me disgusted at Vince waaaay before the current scandal
to think that people would think that Edge was somehow less hardcore, despite being in TLC 1 and 2, in the original Money in the Bank, and making a career out of spearing people off or through things, is insane.
Hell yeah new OSW! I know I'm late but this made my morning.
No WHAT BAR?
Marc Pearson everyone's wearing black...
Then a pile of "Milky Way Midnight" Bars
I was there..and when Cena came out everyone got together everything they could throw and in the section there were conversations happening as to who would keep their souvenir chair and who would throw it. It was an amazing atmosphere.
44:52 *hears the words 'OSW sing the Christmas Classics' and immediately throws his wallet at the screen*
angrytaco oh how lucky you would be
Take all of my dimes
@@TheMuldoonFella Oh that was FUN TO WATCH.
It's honestly amazing that the best wrestling content I watch is just a hobby for you guys 😂 love this shit
In contrast, WWE made $349,320 JUST in ticket sales (2,430 paid * $142 avg/ticket). HUGE success.
Thanks for the videos. You guys are great and it just reminds me of getting loaded on sugar and watching WCW (in my day) witg neighborhood friends, playing goldeneye or perfect dark. Thank you for your content, you guys are pretty funny at times
The Mexican cruiserweight wrestlers who look like someone's 40 yr old uncle always make me laugh
YAY!!!!!! Another fantastic episode of OSW Review!
I'm on here twice, once at 1:42:02 with my dachshunds and the other at 1:44:10 with Paul London.
1:25:00 Edmonton also threw Cena's shirt back at him at Raw back in 2012. You boys should check it out! Future splicy splicy?
Cena throwing his shirt repeatedly into to crowd was the early (and more extreme) version of when Cody’s weight belt was thrown back at him in a tag match during his final few months at AEW
"LONG LIVE THE ALLIANCE! LONG LIVE THE ALLIANCE!" The only time the Alliance has ever been mentioned since its demise in 01.
I’ve downloaded the playlist for EVERYTHING! You guys are.....AWESOME!
Awesome review, guys. I absolutely love this show and I will be picking up a t-shirt soon.
Hahaha I love that you guys answered my question like that! I'm still laughing :D
There's probably been some unique and crazy signs in WWE' s history. Unfortunately when you go back and watch older attitude era shows they end up blurring a lot of them out! I'd sure like to know what some of those said.
Love these videos guys, have me cracking up constantly even though I agree with only about 50% of the stuff you say.
Wasn't Jerry a heel in 2002-2005 until JR was fired? I distinctly remember Lawler's obnoxious and terrible heel commentary during the Booker T vs Riple H feud.
“This is WrestleMania, JR!”
Thank u for your upload.Really appreciate it. I will never forget this legend match. ECW ECW ECW ECW ECW !
I feel bad for Rey because I don't want his entire legacy to be jokes about his knees. I remember the great matches, the epic storylines and feuds, yet everyone else just seems to remwmber his injuries :(
Anyway, great review as always guys. Take a bow.
Fortunately he fixed them and he’s almost 50 and he’s great still
@@dustindiaz5511Lmaoo “yeah it turns out he gets like way better and Dominic comes back”
Thanks for the Shout out guys! :D
More terrible Jim Johnson theme song singing. The Sandman one had me in tears!
1:14:12 "But, neither would a Zombie".
WrestleMania Backlash: "hold my beer".
I come back to this review a lot to hear OOCs amazing JBL impression
How many times has Big Show turned?
Not counting when he debut as a heel for WCW in the summer of '95, at least 28, or about one turn every 18 months.

I love that Tajiri is wearing HUSTLE pants.
Absolutely loved the intro clip lads!!! This video is still one of my favs
It's interesting to note that they went from a "Traditional" ECW ring in '05 to a dressed up WWE ring with ropes instead of cables, and smaller turnbuckle pads. Foreshadowing for the future? The first step in ECW becoming "Federationized"
RIP Terry. Fantastic fella
Fun Fact: Edge is the only person in the 6 mixed tag team match that’s not an ECW alumnist
People tend to forget about Litas time in ECW as Ms Congeniality
32:58 Holy shit, that fuckin Marge Simpson impression
Love the crowd. Can't wait to see the vid^^
And I’ve also heard a lot of wrestlers say that taking most of RVD’s moves like even the rolling thunder was so hard to take and it always hurt and so did the frog splash.
Are we going to see the WWECW episode when they return to the ballroom? Batista actually has a fit in front of that crowd.
It's mad watching RVD in a rabid main event here and watching him job to Rusev on this weeks RAW
I'm so happy you remembered the Owen Coyle sign! was going to mention it just before you said it!
You guys forgot the most epic wrestling sign of all time! What about, "I'm a Jay Hunter Guy"?
Worth the wait. You guys are fantastic!
The most famous wrestling is "Hulk Rules!" from 1985 and the second most famous is "Hulk Fears My Popcorn" from the NWO era.
Good lord that Becky Lynch debut. Wow have times changed since then.
I’d love to see them cover some of her 2018-2020 work.
i wish they would... but they wont.
