I do it like you. I think it is a good thing to sit down before bed, go through your bullet journal, cross things out that you finished that day and set up the following day. It calms me down before going to sleep because I know that I have everything ready for the next day to come :)
does anyone else put this video on as they set up their own daily spread for the next day? lol I watch this video almost every night, I set up my dailies the same way as you and I'm altering it as I go along and find things that work best for me. I love watching your videos as I work in my own bullet journal, Kara!
Had to pause the video just to tell you that your time tracker solves a HUGE problem for me. I tried writing out a full list of times and that took up too much space, and I looked into purchasing a planner with the times listed, but most only cover from like 7 am-5 pm. I work evenings, and I have college assignments due before midnight, etc. This totally solves this issue in a short amount of time. If I see a section marked off with whatever I choose my work color to be, there is no need to write it out. What a simple yet genius idea!
Hi, Kara❣️ Still very new to “Planning”, I want to thank you SO much for the “Bullet Journal 101” Series that you offered, along with all the others that I have and anticipate enjoying! Your passion for what you enjoy and the love of sharing it to encourage others comes through very clearly in your presentation.💕 Thank you for the talent, encouragement and inspiration you share with such joy. I have “Journaled” for the majority of my life (in my own unique and varied ways) and at almost 60 years old (March 🎉😊) I have found new excitement and creativity to carry me another 20, 30 or 40 years! So glad to have found this community of Beautiful People, Ideas and Productivity❣️ And thank you for the generous “Sharing and Teaching" roll you play as a part of it. Warmly, Rita
5:18 WHOA WHOA WHOA I just realised how genius the time bar feature is! I thought it's only for logging in what and when you did something throughout the day but apparently it can also be used to show when you are free?? Wee, no more writing down time numbers beside my to dos!
You should do more bullet journal videos, whenever you try a new type of spread or something! they're very helpful and amazing! you're a huge inspiration for me. I am usually really messy but I want to start a bullet journal to help me get organized.
HI Kara, I love your videos and your style!! The fact that you need almost no equipment to have a nice bullet journal motivates me a lot and you make it so easy and hassle free. I´m so glad I found you, I think you are very generous and inspiring. Greetings from Spain!!
I'd love for you to do a beginners guide journal that highlights what you currently do. The concepts, what you have found works, what does page one and page 10 look like and so on. Im going to go out now and buy all my supplies and i've watched about an hour of your videos and I still feel like i might stuff this up :) I've got the daily down pat, it's the index and everything else im not too sure about. there are other sites, but I like your style and creativity. thanks for inspiring me.
This looks more like an art piece than something you're supposed to do every day. What if you're in a rush? What if you're travelling? How do you manage this?! Seems more stressful than something helpful. But it is STUNNINGLY beautiful :)
if you look at the website where this idea came from (bulletjournal.com) it is nowhere near as artistic as the super artsy bullet journals it's known for now. the bullet journal as a very flexible system though so you can make it as fancy or basic as it suits you. i've kept a very basic but ugly journal for the past 9 months and i'm kinda ready to try and make my next one a bit more well curated and nice, but we'll see.
i thought like this too, but the original creator on bulletjournal.com has an overview on how it works and it looks very basic & boring which is also very easy to do. its actually very cool. it can be as simple as possible, its what you put into it that can make it look like this one & take this long.
OMG I couldn't agree with you more. These girrrrrrly cutesy Bullet Journal videos "That's a fun little arrow" "I'll just put a moon right heeeeeeeere" i.e. I'm going to make a calendar by HAND SQUEEEE! make me want to run screaming to a drugstore to buy a daily planner where all of this craziness is already on the page - albeit minus the calligraphy, colors and clouds. I'm going to go straight to the source that others have kindly posted (bulletjournal.com) and see if that makes more sense to me. Can I possibly achieve my goals without pastels and cute little suns to tell me when the sun rises? OMG I DON't KNOW!
Julia Caroline you can do this system (bullet journaling) in a much more simple way if you are in a hurry :). That is the purpose of this system, which is flexibility. It can be art and it can be a total mess, as long as it helps you :). You should try it!
I had never even heard of bullet journaling, I'm so glad I found your video. Creating your spread must be so soothing. My favorite part is 24hrs log. Awesome idea. I definitely need to start doing this asap.
I just set up my bullet journal for 2017 and I'm new to the system. I plan on using monthly, weekly and daily pages! I'm a student and I messy person that's trying to be productive so I need all of the space I can get! Thanks for the tips!
I love the way you set up the events in the calendex, I had never seen it before. Especially with the reference to the page it was listed on. Definitely a nice way to do future planning in a bullet journal. Right now I don't really have things I have to plan ahead that way but definitely a good idea for the future :)
This was exactly the perspective I needed after struggling around with my dailies/BuJo in general for the past week. It hasn't been bringing as much joy to my life as it did when I first began in Feb but I've realised that it's because I needed to go back to the basics and focus on simplicity! Thanks Kara :)
I've just started getting into bullet journaling. For my first month I have followed the traditional system but now september is only a few weeks away I've started looking at other ways to format each day. This is my favourite way I have seen so far!
I'm a fan of sticker planning mysef, but I am trying to incorporate hand lettering into my planning. I love the slight messiness, it adds to the charm and I personally think it's a little bit of the fun of handlettering! your planning is beautful.
I really like this layout and think it would really help me! the monthly tracker is awesome too and i came up with a health version to track my bad asthma, allergy and arthritis days c:
A friend of mine just told me about bullet Journaling and your posts/videos are wonderful!!! Thank you! I've been needing a system to organize my new (and surprisingly hectic) life as a stay at home mom. I'm so busy with him all day that I get nothing done for myself. I'm hoping this will help!
I enjoy watching and listening to your videos. You speak so confidently and clearly. You give great detail. I'm setting up my first bullet journal as I watch your videos.
Love the new headers! My dailies are a mess, something I've been struggling with. I keep putting things off, but I like how you've gone back and migrated things.
Your voice is very soothing! I absolutely love bullet journaling and my bullet journal has become my best friend. I'll have to try explaining in my next video, I've just been showing. Thanks for this video.
I really enjoy watching your videos, I'm really curious about all the different types of spreads you have in your journal. A P.s I really love that you journal without the added cost of washi-tape and stickers and etc. Because as a newbie to journaling it's really inspiring, as opposed to other journaling/planning videos that often have to do with sticking stuff to paper and that's discouraging to people who don't have the luxury of buying color printed tape. Thanks for keeping it simple with colored pens, dotted pages and the mind.
+tasfiah123 Yes! That's always been my thing... I do use washi tape every once in a while, but ultimately I find that I can do everything I need with just pen and paper :)
Love the idea to put a paperclip on that calendar! I just started bullet journaling last month, so I'm not nearly as good at it yet, but it really has started to make a big improvement to my productivity :) thanks for sharing, definitely subscribing :)
Kara, you never cease to amaze me. Your planning hacks are off the chain! Thanks for sharing as always. Will you ever share your entire notebook collection? :)
+Zaneta Sykes Thanks Zaneta! I'll be doing a new flipthrough when I get to the end of this notebook. I like the idea of sharing my whole collection though... thanks for the idea! :)
+DfarrahB What's so funny about that comment to me--creative and utilitarian--is that I've gone in both directions since following Kara and learned so much. I hope you strike a great balance, too ;)
+DfarrahB Thanks! The creative aspect keeps me engaged with my bullet journal, but above all else, it is very utilitarian to me.. a nice mix of both is always good, I say :)
I just realized what the Calendex is used for. I was confused before. This is actually neat so you don't need to repeatedly write the tasks over and over again, which in my case might not always be a bad idea but it saves time nonetheless. Gonna check your post on it today. Thanks again for sharing.
Thanks so much for this video. While it is a couple years old I'm still new to BUJO'ing and this has inspired me for my February 2018 dailies I've still yet to start. (really only missed yesterday since Feb. 1-4 was on the last week of January spread. I'm going to try these techniques.
Thank you for all the pointers to creating a daily log. Basically what i understood was -- First you have to go to future log, find out the page number written there, and visit the original page where the upcoming event is mentioned. Secondly, regarding tasks , find out an unfinished task from previous page and mark that previously unchecked task as having migrated to the current page. Thirdly, choose a task from the goal list and also update the habit tracker .
Really liked seeing your way of planning with your time tracker and all. I love it. I'll have to think on it more and maybe some of it will fall into my system. Gave it the Thumbs Up!
I really like this video. It has some great ideas. I've been trying to figure out how to plan my weeks on one day. I found that I had all days of the week on one spread, but then if I wanted to add additional notes into my journal it wouldn't be in order chronologically. It was bugging. I like just doing one day at a time. I homeschool, so I will put our school plans in my Happy Planner, then reference them in my bujo (I plan a week a time)... it will be win win! Thanks for this detailed post! I'm liking the more concentrated posts on just one spread, showing how you reference etc. :)
I love the way you do your dailies! I'm new to the bullet journal community but the layout i do for dailies seem congested (because I'm trying to fit a whole week into one page and it doesn't help that my notebook is a bit small). But, seeing your daily log layout, I think I'll incorporate it into the layout I'm designing for my journal in the coming school year. 😁
Sim just beginning to discover bullet journaling, thanks to yourself and your brilliant you tube videos. I am too absorbed with my A5 Filofax and decorating it for my personal life, but for my professional life I think bullet journalling would work a treat. This particular video really helped me with getting in my head how it would help as you went through each of your tasks. For me in particular I would benefit from seeing how those pages you have on monthly weekly and annual goals/to dos worked. I mean the ones you briefly show in this video. or maybe you already have featured them in one of your videos and you could point me in the right direction. thanks so much for your videos, very inspiring :)
+Jennie Leon Hi Jennie! You might find it useful to browse through my bullet journal blog posts right here: www.bohoberry.com/category/bullet-journal/ I'll be making "mini-tip" videos very soon to explain some of my other spreads as well so stay tuned :)
I think the problem for musicians is, we have calender dates up to two years in advance. I have those dates/tours in my head, but even for the several months ahead, I have my entire teaching schedule (which varies), concerts, and tours I need to see right away when called for work. Been using a rhodia planner.
I'm kind of binge watching your videos. Not sure how I managed to not find out about this bullet journal thing until now. I'm an obsessive planner but found none of the premade planners ever REALLY work right for me. I'm just getting started based on watching your vids and I am SO inspired. Thank you so much. (And seriously... instagram lets you make landing pages? That's a new one by me!)
+Chaos And Critters Thanks so much! IG does not let you build a landing page... this will be a landing page on my blog for people arriving from Instagram :)
I just learned about Bullet Journaling from a Goulet Pen Company post on Facebook earlier this week. I discovered your video on Pinterest and you've become my newest hero (or is that heroine?) with your creative yet simple approach. Thank you!
hmmm i've kept a journal for a long time now, I've put it down due to work demands but I needed my frien to hear my thoughts so came back to journaling then... I found you!!! and the ideas of decorating my journal has really reinvented my ideal of silently keeping my life written down in a format I can accept and adopt... I may be alone with my idea but I am a true bullet journalist and as such, I cannot support anything else. (filo fax?,,,) I see you have enough followers so me leaving you wont't be a big deal... any how... good luck to you and the tribe. Thank you however for offering yourself freely without expectations.
+Laurence Padiolleau Awesome! I'm so glad that you understand the calendex better now... I think I'll do a "mini-tip" video on it soon to dive in further :)
Thank you so much for this video. You seem to do a really job putting out videos that answer exactly what I am asking. You're such an inspiration to me, Kara :)
hello, love your ideas. so you do not set up your daily pages ahead time. Instead, you set it up the night before. Is that correct? I just started bullet journaling and I haven't found my own style yet. I am overwhelmed! Thanks so much for sharing your tips with us.
Wow. This is freaking AWESOME! It's so satisfying to see you writing those pretty letters and drawing the beautiful decorations. I kinda want to do this myself but I'm afraid I am not creative enough lol... Anyway, you're cool! X
The more videos I watch of yours, the more I want to try a bullet journal! I've been looking at notebooks for this, but haven't purchased one yet! I think its only a matter of time... :)
Love this! Borrowed your daily spread layout (love the time tracker) and the monthly tracker, which I especially like because it means all my task tracking stuff is now analog (still use Google calendar and the Sunrise app.) New follower btw, love your work. :)
+Robert “Frank” Martin Thanks so much! I'm a sucker for analog as well, but I still use a shared family iCal calendar to keep everyone on track each week :)
Thank you so much for sharing how you do your daily planning. Really learnt a lot and shall borrow your ideas. Really helpful to the BoJo Community. Thanks. :)
This helped me So much!! I've been exploring different formats since the beginning of the year and have adopted your tracking and other components into my planner (thank you!!). This month I'm trying the Bullet Journal Style for the daily for the first time. Even though I've been watching bujo videos for several months, setting up my first daily for tomorrow (May 1) I was at a loss (it's surprising how out of my comfort zone this is!) Sorry to be so wordy but just want to cyber hug you for all that you share. {{hugs}} ~ Pam
This is amazing! Do you ever put your daily household chores into your daily plans? I'm finding that I struggle to keep up with my cleaning scheduled unless they're scheduled but I was wondering if you already have a neat system for tracking chores? Thanks!
I really enjoyed this video. I wish I could bullet journal like you! i suck at hand writing. It seems a lot of time too. And I don't have enough time to do this every day. Good job! :)
+40405991H Aw, thanks! Your bullet journal can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. Ultimately it is a tool to organize yourself better. "Making it pretty" is just a bonus :)
I do it like you. I think it is a good thing to sit down before bed, go through your bullet journal, cross things out that you finished that day and set up the following day. It calms me down before going to sleep because I know that I have everything ready for the next day to come :)

Aw, I love hearing that, Antonia! I'm glad you enjoy it and are getting good use out of it :)

This video is almost 2 years old . . . and it is still GENIUS!!! I am so happy it's still available to view 👍
This looks more like an art piece than something you're supposed to do every day. What if you're in a rush? What if you're travelling? How do you manage this?! Seems more stressful than something helpful. But it is STUNNINGLY beautiful :)
it would be a great way to force you to stop and focus, though. I would be able to do it for a week, I think!

I've fallen in love with bullet journaling. Changed my life! Love your video! Super informative. X
+DAMNSAM Awesome! So happy that you're loving it :)
I love the way how you did your daily tasks and events, you have given me a awesome ideas to put on my journal.
Anyone else just laugh when she said she liked the "messy" look lol
Music Fan me
I would LOVE to see a video or post about your daily/monthly spread you briefly showed!
Eeee! I was just thinking about how I am struggling with how to plan my dailies! It's like you are reading my mind lately with these videos! 🤗
+Geek On Fleek Totally!!

+Vicky Zhang I love that Vicky! Sometimes simplifying is just what we need for sure :)
This has been SO helpful. Now I have a better foundation to make my custom routine. Without duplicating efforts. Thank you so much!!
You are very artistic. I don't have the talent nor the time for such a Zen-like appointment book design. But I enjoyed watching you put it together.
Love it your time tracker! Sometimes the messy look is the best look :)
+MandyJeanChic Thanks a lot! :)

+Ruth Charlton Yay! You're so welcome, Ruth!

Oh, gotcha. That makes sense. I'm a total IG newbie, so I'm going to have to wander over and follow you so I can learn how to use it!
I agree 100%!!! How did I not know about this? I am so inspired! I am binge watching too! :-)
First Time watching you...I enjoyed learning how you do your bullet journal. Will be back!
I just learned about Bullet Journaling from a Goulet Pen Company post on Facebook earlier this week. I discovered your video on Pinterest and you've become my newest hero (or is that heroine?) with your creative yet simple approach. Thank you!
+Jeannie Leighton Aw, thanks Jeannie! And I think heroine is the correct term but I like hero better haha! I'm weird I know XD
Your journals are such a work of art! I can't wait to get started on mine!! Thanks for the inspo :)
+Emma Manley Thanks Emma! Have fun diving in :)
I loved your video. BUJO is on my Christmas list.
Great video! This is really helpful as I get started with my own Bullet Journal to see what I like. Thanks for sharing!
+Nicki Ivey You're very welcome Nicki! :)
I really love this daily spread!
hmmm i've kept a journal for a long time now, I've put it down due to work demands but I needed my frien to hear my thoughts so came back to journaling then...
Your writing is so neat I WANT IT
Thx Kara for sharing with us your daily planning routine. I was wondering how you used the Calendex, now I understand better.
+Laurence Padiolleau Awesome! I'm so glad that you understand the calendex better now... I think I'll do a "mini-tip" video on it soon to dive in further :)
Great method. I'm about to get a bullet journal. I might try this.
The migrating from day to day has been a bit much for me. i like how you do it from spread to spread! I think I am adopting it!
TaaaDaaaaa! Just what I've been looking for. Thx for sharing
Thank you so much for this video. You seem to do a really job putting out videos that answer exactly what I am asking. You're such an inspiration to me, Kara :)
+Jessie Haynes Happy to hear it Jessie! Thank you so much :)
hello, love your ideas. so you do not set up your daily pages ahead time. Instead, you set it up the night before. Is that correct? I just started bullet journaling and I haven't found my own style yet. I am overwhelmed! Thanks so much for sharing your tips with us.
Hi Anna! Yes, I do everything the night before... one day at a time as I never know how much (or how little) space I will need :)

hi,
thank you for that, great video.
when do you plan ahead, like for the week or month?
Just subscribed, this was a great video, I just started a bullet journal and I cant believe how much I love it, thanks for sharing.
+Debra Ornouski I love that! Thanks Debra!
i LOVE that timescale idea
Great procedures! As always......thanks for sharing!
+Suzanne Light Thanks Suzanne! You're very welcome :)
how are people so organized what the HELL
I totally LOVE this!!! This gives me ideas for my very first bujo
Free hand lines are not messy to me. They show energy and give the pages a creative look that are more interesting to look at.
+Mike Wadley That's a great perspective! Thanks Mike :)
Your TYPEography is awesome
Hello, I love it very much. It was very inspired a lot. Thank you.
Just found your UA-cam and love it I'm very new to bullet journaling and this was a great way I can use in mine
This is a lot of fun to watch - great inspiration.
+Sarah Kipling Yay! Glad you liked it, Sarah! :)
I love your planner!!!
love the time tracker idea.
this has been really helpful
thank u :)
Thank you so much for sharing how you do your daily planning. Really learnt a lot and shall borrow your ideas. Really helpful to the BoJo Community. Thanks. :)
+Bharat Khiani I'm happy to help :)
I really love this system!
THIS IS SO FASCINATING
This helped me So much!! I've been exploring different formats since the beginning of the year and have adopted your tracking and other components into my planner (thank you!!). This month I'm trying the Bullet Journal Style for the daily for the first time. Even though I've been watching bujo videos for several months, setting up my first daily for tomorrow (May 1) I was at a loss (it's surprising how out of my comfort zone this is!) Sorry to be so wordy but just want to cyber hug you for all that you share. {{hugs}} ~ Pam
THIS IS SO SATISFYING TO WATCH I LOVE IT
You're amazing. I don't think that I could be that organized. *awesomesauce*
love your daily planning!
Ur hand writing is perfect! ❤️ I subscribed
Fantastic work!! LOVE IT!
+Casandra Virk Thank you!
This was very satisfying to watch 😌
