Hello, I love your videos. Just to let you kow that you do support authors by using your library as authors receive PLR (Public Lending Right) payments for books borrowed, including audiobooks. They receive a payment once every year and this really does help. x
Hello my friend, another great video! I love going to used bookshops, every time I go to a new city, town or state, I always find a few bookshops to go to 😊… I hope you’re doing great, much love from across the pond (America) 🎉🎉🤝 Also, I’ve been through exactly what you’re going through now, medication, psychologists, etc. most of my 20’s I spend dealing with severe anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation, but I am now 36 years old, I love life, I have an amazing wife and kids, yes I sometimes have moments or days of being “off” but mental health issues are not a life sentence. Things can and will get better! There is always hope, so never give up! ❤
Just like me, you havent got too many books, just not enough bookcases. Im not worried because as long as i dont buy any more and i live to 125 years old, i will easily get them all read!!
I totally agree with you. In an age where we are discovering we may not outright own our ebooks, when we discover they can be altered at a later date, or removed if the material is later deemed inappropriate. The only way to go is hard copy. Back to good old reliable analogue. And look at it this way, you can prop up furniture with books, stuff holes, use as insulation and as a last resort you can do the good old fashioned burning, to keep warm and possibly heat some water for a cup of tea. In the beginning of Winter 2024, I think I will keep my books. Small rotating bookshelves may be an option, they are not very expensive and save on space.
Ngl, the book collector in me had an actual aneurysm when you showed the first five books xD So shiny. Peter Pan and Black Beauty are great to read with your kids. My fiancé has put me on a physical book buying ban until we move xD Kindle is fine though :P Also, thank you for shining a light on how little authors actually earn. People don't realise you make literally pennies to a few pounds lol. Edit: I shouldn't laugh but every time you make a comment about your dad I'm just sat here like same xD T_T
@@StephTucker-hc8px haha I love so much 'beautiful' books away when I do meet ups with people from my socials. Il not be okay with him leaving so il always make a joke about it 🤣🤣
I used to shop for clothes for "something to do" or for that dopamine hit. After my mother died, I couldn't do that anymore, because she would always go clothes shopping with me. Now I too get a burst of happiness/thrill when I find a great book at my local second-hand shop. I did slow down buying all those books because they started piling up on tables once my proper bookshelves were stuffed. I mostly buy books that I would need more time to read than my usual library fare. I usually purchase classics and books that I think I should read for example: "A Wealth of Nations" by Adam Smith and the works of philosophers such as Nietzsche.
My TBR is already at about 500. In my defence, when my grandfather passed I inherited two dozen Clive Cussler, a dozen or so James Patterson and the Bourne books. I’m trying to read them, but I’m such a mood reader and my favourite authors are very prolific. I can wait, I don’t have to rush out and buy them, but the problem with that these days is publishers rush to reprint the first or maybe first couple of books in a series in the smaller format then publish the new books in the large format. Then if you haven’t bought the first ones already they don’t match the new books. I hate that so much.
Yay! You went to your local Sally army shop! I volunteer at the Mansfield one and I look after the books. I'm guilty of buying a lot from there. You did better than me at resisting! I'm debating jumping in the car and going for a look 😂 Also, please rip the sellotape off your Robin Hobb, she's amazing and once you've started, you'll want to read the whole lot. I'm on the final one she's written and I'm taking it slowly as I don't want the journey to end ❤
Wow! 4 books for a £1😯 Excellent video. I find that buying books is a different hobby to actually reading books! It's the thrill of the chase, looking for a certain title.
Love you the most ❤❤ just made my morning. My day off and feeling alone and unmotivated despite having lots to do. Thanks for posting this. Also Love the campaign for schools and that you're giving your books to a good cause xx
I just spent the last year reading what I own instead of buying more books. It was tough passing up bookstores for a year and, I admit, I did acquire a very few books. Anyhow, the books I’ve read this past year were really good except a few which I dnf-ed. Glad I kept those books around and now they’re in my giveaway pile.
I love your videos, not only are you handsome and funny most importantly you're so kind. Also I feel like you would talk to anyone if you saw them in the street. You are so down to earth. I love that. Love you the most 😊
I decided to ban myself from buying any further books, just a few days ago, except at my local charity book shop. One factor is I will have to wait for books that I know I would like to have, and let luck step in my direction when she is good and ready.
Met you today at Waterstones in chez and had a lovely chat about books and life. Will try some pf you recommendations. Would suggest trying matthew Reilly & david gibbins as they are archeological adventures. Hope the book ban goes well as you showed great self restraint in waterstones ❤
Aupppppp tyrone 😬im here again as always! 😋that charity shop is proper amazing mate! if i still lived near chez i would be straight in there 🤣😍the manager too whatta guy! 😄so good to see how kind you have been to give back to people in need! LEGEND! Love ya the most 🤍
Another cracking video mate. I have to admit I'm guilty of whenever I go and donate to a local charity shop I always end up buying more than I've just got rid of 😂🤘
Hi Tyrone! Glad to have stumbled upon your channel. Fellow Chesterfield resident, book and charity shop lover! Salvation Army's one of my fave places, in fact I was there this morn :) It's just a short walk from me and so I'm often tempted by that 4 for a pound offer. Looking forward to watching more of your vids. Btw I just finished Project Hail Mary. I agree, it's a great read!
There might be something in the air... I took a bag full of books to a second hand book shop today - the books they accepted get to go on a shelf to find a new reader, an independent business makes a little money so they can keep serving the community, and I get a bit of store credit for the next time I want to buy a book. The books they didn't want, I'm going to put in a little free library tomorrow morning. Of course, the problem with this system is that store credit, telling me I should use it to buy something more to read...
I know what you mean about feeling like you have too many unread books. I’m currently doing the read what you own challenge where you read 100 of your owned books before buying another one.
great video! it's always worth checking a few charity shops to see if your wanted book is there as you can often get them for a tenth of the price compared to a brand new release! At the end of the day the words on the page are the same! I may be wrong but I think in the uk at least there a system where every year the uk pay out money to authors based on the amount of times their books are taken out of a uk library. So the authors will still get some money!
There is a big problem with people buying books for the sake of buying them (I’m guilty of this even more so with my ebooks on my kobo because my object permanence is shot to pieces so I just forget about them). I’ve now decided to only buy from charity shops & libraries too. I’m stopping buying ebooks for my kobo. Don’t stop the chatty videos. Loving them ❤
@@BookishDadReads also as someone who has struggled with mental health for most of my life too just wanted to say keep doing what you're doing. I had a bit of a rough one this morning and your videos have been helping to inspire and pick myself up. You're a top bloke!!
I’ve been wondering if there is a an initiative or charity that would take new books. And second hand in good condition. I bought a few kids books to add to a local charity (Homestart). Which made me think surely there are adults out there that would appreciate new books? If anyone knows of such a charity I’d love to know. I’ve been collecting books my whole life and trying to clear out as much as possible.
