My son is AuDHD and my chief concern with him (since he's had some issues with his father) is to create space. Any kind of safe space. Just so however he chooses to express his feelings, even in anger, there is a safe space in which to land, crash, expel, and even once, cry. I'm so glad to hear that you got the help you needed. It's sad how many people still don't understand Autism. I'm an advocate and an ally. It must be such a relief for you to have the right support. I also have the Tattooist of Auchwitz on my TBR cart and just did a book haul video about it. Sounds like a fantastic read - I know it's based on a true story. So glad to hear you talk about it. So glad to have discovered your channel. Much love from Canada.

I once, for years, held on despite crushing depression waiting for "The Dark Tower" to come along. This wasn't the first time reading (or waiting, during a particularly hard bout I waited for the movie, "Return of the King," like a beacon.) saved my life. When my dad left I was six. I didn't speak for a year. I read. And I didn't stop. At 7 I read the Earthsea Trilogy and began a life long love of fantasy and science fiction. It's a beautiful thing that reading can take us away and sometimes take us into deeper understanding of our lives. Been going through a slog recently but books have slowly lifted the veil. I appreciate your sharing your experiences and encouragement. Books I've read the past two weeks - "Lonesome Dove (highly recommended)," "Midnight Cowboy (really gritty, maybe pass)," "On Wings Like Eagles (7th in a series, enjoyable)," "The Puzzler (goodness)," "Stories I'd Tell in Bars (fun)," and "The Five People You Meet in Heaven (overrated but worth the read)." I'm about to dive into "Uprooted" by Novick. And take the dogs for a walk. 😄 Well that was a novel of a comment. This video was so real and satisfying that I don't need to scroll, I'm off to read. 🌻🍄

Hey mate, i just recently discovered your channel and its a real blessing! Its rare that somebody talks about these topics, but its also very important! Thanks so much for your honesty and your thoughts about this!
I also suffered from heavy depression for a few years, no childhood trauma, just very bad things that happened later in life.
I was not on medication, always wanted to fight this fight alone. But when i look back, i know that some very good friends of mine are the reason that i am still here today.
Now im in therapy and 2 years ago I picked up reading again.
I read allot when i was younger and im super grateful i got back into it!
This video was motivating to stick to it and keep going! Thanks✌🏻

Thank you for sharing your story and your story as a reader. Books and libraries have a well earned reputation for saving lives. I subbed to your channel a few days ago and what I like about your channel is that you aren't stuck in a genre which is really refreshing. You seem to read everything which is fantastic. I also like that you read and talk about books that aren't necessarily the "latest and greatest or the newest". There's a lot of great stuff to read and sometimes I feel like book reviewers are missing 99% of it by just reviewing the newest releases or the most popular books. I've added a few books to my tbr from your recommendations. Keep on going man, sounds like you're on the right path for yourself. I look forward to seeing more videos.

I have been suffering from depression, anxiety, bipolar and PTSD for nearly 20 years and sadly have tried to step into the ether three times. *This comment is relevant even if it looks like a ramble haha* I have followed your journey on Instagram for some time. I am now half way through this UA-cam video and I really want to comment something caring and substantial, but it is midnight and my brain is feeling 'ahhh' after sorting out ridiculous admin issues my healthcare. So I may come back and edit this comment later. 😃For now, I leave a reading suggestion and a neurodivergent therapy suggestion. I find that reading books helps my suspected neurodivergent brain especially during 'transitions'. I have been looking into DBT for neurodivergents (I am being assessed for autism and adhd myself). It is a subtype of CBT but focusses 'accepting that two things can be true, what is happening now and changes to make in the future'. Maybe your autistic brain would like it too? Helps with how to process stuff. It is also helping me cope with transitions a bit better. I don't know if you find that this impacts your mental health too? It is a recent revelation for me, but one that reading can help with! I really struggle with transitions because when I switch from A to B, it takes time for my brain to catch up with where my body now is at B. My brain moves so fast all the time, that it never felt grounded or present at A and thus didn't link with my body at A and move with it, so my brain stayed at A. I then feel so unsettled by being stuck at 2 places simultaneously that it makes my mental health worse. Transitions can take me hours or days. Reading can help my brain to slow down and register where I am and thus link brain and body. Making this relevant to a reading suggestion would be to try non-fiction books (like Unruly by David Mitchell narrated by David Mitchell!), or try a foreign language book - hear me out.... I loved learning Classical Latin at school (there were 10 ish of us at GCSE as others dismissed the subject). But we used to analyse the Latin texts in an English Literature style way. There were so many layers of meaning to the text via techniques and translations. Doing that work helped my mind to unspiral out of negative thought pattern that it was stuck in, reset it and let me choose where to take my brain next. Given that supposedly autistic brains don't do as much 'synaptic pruning' as neurotypical, it is no surprise that we feel mentally fatigued and struggle to get rid of and move through thought processes. EDIT: There is a book UA-camr and former English Literature student called SunbeamJess that I have followed for a trillion years. She now has a book related job. You might enjoy her book videos?
