I used to spend a small fortune on books, mostly from Waterstones. Then about 16 years ago I bought a kindle. So between the kindle, charity shops and market stalls.I haven’t paid full price for a book since then. I love to pass physical books on, I love that one book can be passed on to make someone else happy. Reading should never be a luxury.
I honestly don’t know why so many people hate buying second hand books. I know it can be a bit gross if they’re not looked after the best but it’s nothing a quick once over with some baby wipes can’t solve and you can’t beat the prices really. There’s some great bargains online too I love world of books (WOB) and eBay can be a goldmine for harder to find stuff. 📚
We absolutely LOVE charity shop hunting! Especially if it's a posher area! We're in the North East & regularly goto Northallerton & York. Managed to pick up some amazing books from the as well as coats (£400 rab down jacket for £20, brand new £350 rohan jacket for £12.50!). Our last 2 holidays have been a week in Matlock, which ment visiting a huge amount of charity shops in all the little market towns & also included Chesterfield. Got some books off my wishlist that I'd never thought I'd see in the wild. As for around where we live, it's mostly a lot of generic books. However 2 of the larger charity shops have a massive book area & it's 5 for £1! I got the complete inspector morse set for £2.60
Ellie has good taste, it’s a great jacket. It’s so great that you are parents who put your kids first. So many families around my area have kids with no shoes, no school books, no coats in winter, but they can always buy their alcohol and cigarettes (alcohol is relatively cheap but cigarettes are up to $70 a pack here). It’s rotten to see them buy that garbage when their kids are begging for a cheap lolly or a snack and get told no, we can’t afford it. Go without your smokes for one day and you can, ma’am. Haha love the subtitles at 4:46 that subbed ‘books’ with ‘balls’ 😂😂😂 early morning humour sorry. Sorry this is so long! I love this idea so much. My friend goes to the charity shops every week for other reasons and she’s convinced me to go with her one day just by sending me photos of all the books. I recently paid $15 for a used book on eBay (I’m collecting the hardcovers of one of my favourite series) but when it arrived it was in such bad condition that I can’t even put it with the rest of my books in case the mould spreads. My friend listened to my rage story (it’s far longer than this) and texted me the next day. She found me a much better copy for under $5 in a charity shop she goes to every day before work. I cant donate or even recycle the other copy because it’s in such terrible condition it has to go right in the bin. If you’re still here reading, sorry again for the bonus book.
@@StardustandMadness I absolutely am still here and read the whole thing lol. Thanks so much for your kind words. My kids will always come first. I'm glad you managed to get a better condition book too 😁
I just did a massive book haul for my birthday and half the books are Stephen King, I freaking love his character work and his flow is addictive, but that's the beauty of books. Not every book is for everyone. Love your haul. Cheers

Well that was fun! I take my read books to my local Tesco or Morrison supermarket as they both have a ‘used’ bookshelf where you can pick up books for a donation to a local animal sanctuary. A very random selection is on offer but you can drop lucky. If you like gory crime have you read any Patricia Cornwell? They revolve around Kay Scarpetta the chief medical examiner in Virginia and they definitely require a strong stomach .. 🤢 Loving the vlogs 📚💚

See if you find a few bring and swap shops. We have little book shop in Liverpool that’s a charity book shop. The idea is you take in books if you have any and can take as many as you want for free. If I don’t have any to leave I’ll just nip to the charity shop to leave some for them, books I’ve read and loved but already have. a prefect shop to take the kids too! Loving watching your videos! For example, yesterday I nearly ordered a book full price off Waterstones (couldn't find it on world of books) that I wanted (but the wifi was lagging) so I decided to go in store today to buy it. Before going to Waterstones I nipped into a charity shop and BOOM there was the book, for £2.50 hehe

Before reading the tattooist I’d do some thorough research because there’s a lot of controversy around that book. There’s articles online from the auschwitz museum etc that strongly suggest this book is not at all accurate and has been harmful to the memory of survivors and their families
It's funny how different we all are with reading - you find Stephen King a waffler, yet the reason I gave up reading Chris Carter was for that very reason - every single book he has to tell us how the main character thinks he is sexy but is only into one night stands, how he doesn't need any help because he reads a lot then he knows everything.
