@@passmethatbook I just found Dragonbone Chair at the used book store- an excellent DAW edition for $8!!! I’ve been wanting the series for so long but the paperbacks are still $16-18 for the DAW pbk editions I’ve wanted. I’m SOOO EXCITED to read them all! I just back from the book store so I’m a bit gushy. 😂 Can’t wait to find the other two (or 3) titles!! 🙌🏼
Hello Tyrone I hope you're well. I am also a bookish Dad as well and have a youtube channel, also talking about books and mental health it's refreshing I am not the only one.
I’m going on vacation to London soon and I’m sooo excited to see all the book shops I’m going to find… if anyone has any recommendations please do not hesitate!☺️
one of my earliest reads way back in my teens is a novella called "the snow goose" by paul gallico. although i did not fully understand the war setting of the story (i'm asian and didn't know much about the more specific details of ww2 at the time), this is one of the first books that really hooked me into reading. i can't even remember where i got the book. this is also my first experience as a reader to heartily recommend it right away to a friend only to be met with their utter lack of interest 😹
I personally loved American Dirt. It was , in my opinion, the victim of an unfair cancel culture attack that got out of control. I am a social progressive, but thought the backlash against this book was unfair when I looked into the controversy. Decide for yourself:)
Omg omg omg I’m one who recommended The Prison Healer to you!! Yes!! This is one of my favourite modern trilogies. I hope you love it. The first book is so good, the second was a bit slower paced for me and picked up midway, but the third is absolutely brilliant again from start to finish!! I never wanted it to end. Edit: if you’re interested in James Patterson, his Alex Cross series is great. Patterson is famous for short chapters, so if you have the ‘just one more chapter’ thing like I do, it works a treat when reading his books because you don’t feel guilty for reading just-one-more-three-page-chapter 😂
I tend to start series as well, but I need to get them finished. I’m trying to change that. i’m reading the first book in a large sci-fi series and i love it, so you know I am determined to read the whole thing LOL Sword of Kaigen still is on KU, by the way :) I say you start the new one that you spent all that money on 😊
@ Okay but how about what you’re missing when you don’t finish. I’ll bet that was a big help 🤪 But I’m kind of not kidding and that’s the thing for me. A bit of the opposite. I worry that I’m missing the end of the story.
Love this! I love that you’re bringing the lesser known books to the forefront! I am also terrible for starting a series and not finishing it 😂 I just feel like I’m too scared for it to end so I just don’t bother 😂 it’s a bad habit I know! You camera was worrying me at points, I thought it was gonna fall then realised it’s a fancy one 😂
In fact American Dirt did cause a general media & social media controversy when it was released. Despite a huge budget spent marketing it the general consensus on booktube was it was dirt!
@@BookishDadReads please read this book with an open mind. It got bad press because people questioned whether the author had the right to talk about something she had no experience in. She wasn’t an immigrant nor Mexican. However, I think they are missing the point, for me, I never read a novel because its going to be accurate, its not historical fiction, its a good book about family and gang life. It was entertaining and draw my attention and empathy towards the plight of immigrants that made me want to look further into it and read more first hand accounts. Inspiring curiosity and opening up dialogues about areas that are unfamiliar to us is what literature is all about.
@TheUnabridgedMe within the first two chapters I knew I would love the book. I don't care about the authors knowledge. You can't win with some people. She's raising awareness on a serious issue. If she hasn't done this people would only moan that she wasn't using her platform for good. Damned if she does, damned if she doesn't
@@BookishDadReads Of course, there's always a book for someone. I guess I was just pointing out that this novel had drawn widespread criticism both here and the US. Naturally that didn't stop it being popular. Enjoy it!
@@BookishDadReads Unfortunately the controversy was a lot more nuanced than this White woman who didn’t make the journey. It was that she got a huge advance, she supposedly plagiarized some bits from another Spanish author, and that the Spanish she used in the book is very wrong, she doesn’t have that lived experience, and that people that have that lived experience have been trying to tell that story but publishers weren’t buying them or if they were the publisher was buying for a lot less and there was no marketing budget or campaign. Glad that you’re enjoying though.

Keep up telling us all about underrated or unknown books. Always subscribe to Kindle Unlimited when on offer. Have found many new authors to read doing this. Sorry for long comment.
I love Charity Shop books. We who read ALOT, simply cannot afford to be buying new books all the time, who has such money right? I am currently trying to collect a few series to read in order after reading like book 12 in a series and then hunting for the others, LOL.
American Dirt was I think included in Oprahs book club. I recall there was even some uproar about the author?? But it's always interesting how the Goodreads crowds don't always overlap with people who read these books
I read American Dirt when it came out and really loved it. The furore was because she wasn’t a Latino and how could she, how dare she, write about a situation she didn’t come from, didn’t understand, used stereotypes, yada yada. Profiting from the suffering of others …Cancel culture. Storm in a very self-righteous teacup. I mean….imagine a white Mark Twain having the cheek to write about blacks and racism! Shocking, eh? Imagine writers relying on imagination….😱 I love your enthusiasm and sense of humour. Sad to hear your kids didn’t get fed this week but I am sure they understand literature is important.
