This is the calm before the storm, 97 is a great year for both companies and 98 really sends Wrestling into the next level. I can’t wait for the in depth reviews of Raw, it was truly a must see program in 98-00
Sting has been one of my favorite wrestlers since I started watching, by that time he was doing the crow gimmick which I love, but over recent years the more I see of "Surfer" Sting, he really grown on me. Due to that character being not so illusive, there was more crowd interactions and he worked as more fast paced style. He was a perfect gimmick Babyface!!
i couldn't agree more, Sting but more specifically "Surfer" Sting has been one of my top 3 favorite wrestlers since the first time i ever saw him on TV back in like 1989\1990. His other versions are cool but there's just something about early 90's Sting that clicked with me So Much that i would have liked anything he did character-wise after that point. i still have some old WCW trading cards from when Sting won the title his first time, i was so young i can't even remember how i got the cards in the first place. 😄👍
I'm glad to find that I wasn't the only one that thought Warrior was wack as a wrestler. Tons of energy, I won't lie, I was a mark for him in '88, but he didn't bring a lot in the ring.
@Rich Smith But those Billionaire Ted skits were really below the belt, worse than anything WCW said about the WWF. Remember too, the WWF was the established brand and they had less to gain by mentioning the underdog brand. (One of the main points of the billionaire Ted skits was to convince people that WCW wasn't an underdog brand.) WWF had a long standing policy of not acknowledging NWA, AWA, WCW, UWF etc. They felt those companies were beneath the more upscale Sports Entertainment they were selling.
For me, Flair is the current MVP of this war. He's on every single week giving promos AND wrestling, and he's making his opponents look like a million bucks. Nobody made the Giant look stronger than Flair.
I love this series...I sometimes go back to watch the episodes. I love the breakdown. I was pretty young during these episodes and I definitely don't remember them.
I just wanted to let you know something. I only started watching these maybe last week and I am almost caught up. My cat just passed away, I had him more than 17 years and this has helped take my mind of things. Either way you do such a detailed and great job re-living all these memories. There are some good podcasts on wrestling out there, but you are easily the king of UA-cam and this format. Great work.
Love the attention to detail. In this case, checking to see what the pre raw dark matches were and how they would have influenced the opening bout. That’s quite impressive
Why do I love this channel? Cause when a match has low crowd noise you try and investigate why by researching the dark matches. It's that care that makes this the cream of the crop
Thanks for putting all of these videos together - they take me back to my childhood, sitting in my room with my big brother, switching channels back and forth between the two shows. Good stuff and thank you again!

@@Rob_Thorsman You suggest I must be smoking something.... and then proceed to refer to Marlena as a "stunner". Well whatever I am smoking I must have got from you pal!
Regal and Finlay had some good matches during this period. Not sure if you guys in Europe were able to see much of them or their style in the 90's, but it was fresh for us in the US. The international element of WCW during this period was a nice feature that gave the undercard freshness and diversity. Finlay and Regal were both very good at this time.
I have said it before but it cant be said often enough....THANK YOU. The effort you have put in to come this far already is amazing. Its the thing I look forward to most all week.
You work hard as hell on all your videos, and hope you can make a little money on the side. You deserve SO much more credit to how you work ass off on these! I have been having personal issues and you help me forget some of my problems, even if it's 24 minutes at a time. Keep kicking ass my dude!
@wrestling bios what about an episode about your all-time favorite matches .. ie 5-star matches but the wrestling bios version ! luv your channel keep up the good work
Nope not really. Looking for world champion doing this time was kind of iffy at best. Doing this time macho Man should have been world champion to counter a Shawn Michaels champion in wwf
@attiepollard7847 The irony of your statement is that Randy wanted his last fued in then WWF to be with this young kid who he thought had a lot of talent. The guy was Shawn Michaels of course. But Vince didn't want to do it. Macho wanted it to be a long fued. I think Vince was just tired of Macho or something. But anyway, WCW didn't appreciate Macho Man, so he wasn't pushed to be that here. Edit: I remember what happened was McMahon only wanted Randy as a commentator, but Savage thought he could do more.
Memory can be a strange thing. If you had asked me before this series started, there are a lot of things I thought I remembered from the early Monday night war period that I would thought have been a major component by April 29, 1996. Where is Raven's flock? The luchadores? The Cruiserweight title? Where is Ken Shamrock? Farooq? I suppose all of this is coming, but I would have thought that they started in the early months of Monday Night wars. In any case, I remember being very enthusiastic about Monday night wrestling by this period, and was asking my boss to have every Monday night off. It was so much better than what wrestling had been prior to this.
It's funny to watch Austins offence pre-piledriver. He was a machine back in WCW and had Bischoff had any sense he'd have seen that and kept him around. That said he probably would have been lost in the mix as a mid-carder, elevating guys, but letting him go was ridiculous.
15:14 Yay .... the tone when saying " ican't wait to know what this is" ... OF course ... it's your favorite ^^ Next week : the bread and butter of Wrestilng Bios for the raw vs Nitro war ...
the WCW tag division was so much more interesting at this time than the dreadful WWF tag teams. For such a big man The Giant was really enjoyable at this time; much better than either Warrior or Yankem. WCW won this week because they actually put out good matches with 2/3 decent finishes. Warrior looks like a roided up Grinch.
Watching that parking lot brawl when this aired live, it just felt real. The Regal vs. Finlay feud really had me hooked at the time. You couldn't see through anything they did and when they worked together, it was great. It didn't even matter that neither of them were babyfaces or that we didn't get much of a backstory about why they hated each other so much. Their work told the story.
I say your half way right but was the giant the right fit to be real champion to counter a Shawn Michaels in WWE? Nope. I say they should have dropped the belt to macho Man Savage in 96
Even 8 year old me knew the Warrior was old news by this point. I remember flipping back and forth and consistently settling on nitro. Plus I remember being upset Vader was not getting a shot at HBK right away. Being from Colorado I always loved him. Great series, thank you for your hard work.
Warrior ran to the back because he remembered he left his coke out, didn't want hbk getting a whiff
I just gathered that he wanted to give the audience a little bit more value for their money seeing how short the match was...

This time period is when I really got into pro wrestling. I had been a casual viewer before this, but these characters and angles got me hooked.
It’s crazy to think that 24 years later sting would be returning on TNT
@ZCS so just like how WWE has to bring in Goldberg and the undertaker every year?
