Reliving The War is a web series where every episode of WWF Raw and WCW Nitro is compared on a segment by segment basis.
When the wrestling "Monday Night War" was in full swing, fans had a decision to make... would they watch the WWF or would they switch over to WCW's relatively new "Nitro" show that aired on TNT? The Monday Night Wars is considered by many to be the absolute best time to be a wrestling fan, and this series looks to relive the glory days by presenting the full Raw vs Nitro TV ratings battle that took place in the 90s and early 2000s.
WCW Bash at the Beach 1996 just took place in Daytona Beach and the whole wrestling world is buzzing. The unthinkable happened at the pay per view, Hulk Hogan turned heel and he joined Kevin Nash and Scott Hall. This week's episode of Nitro, live from Orlando, looks at the entire Bash at the Beach fallout as a new era begins in World Championship Wrestling. To demonstrate how "behind with the times" the WWF truly were, Vince McMahon answer to the earth shattering Bash at the Beach show was to put The Godwinns in this week's Raw main event.

Giving a point to the fireworks over the Nasty Boys promo was brilliant!
Dean Malenko vs Rey Mysterio is an underrated feud. They had consistently good matches with each other that really helped move the cruiserweight division forward. Dean would also have an, in my opinion, underrated feud with Jeff Jarrett the following year.
Dean and Rey both had amazing feuds in wcw. Dean’s feud with Jericho was phenomenal as was Rey’s with Eddie Guerrero.
Dean was one of the best workers of his era; Jeff Jarrett was ratings poison regardless of who he worked with.

When are stone cold and the rock showing up?
For 22 Months, WCW, The company that, 2-3 years previous, Vince had called a "Clown show", beat the WWF hands-down in the Ratings War!
@@dend1 I don't want to spoil much, but let's just say WWE (WWF) is about to get destroyed in the ratings (and in quality as well) by WCW starting now and for several months (each month with WCW kicking WWF harder and harder), which is going to force Vince McMahon to do a complete revamp of WWF(WWE) and turn it into the Attitude era. Stone Cold is around right now but he is a mid-carder at this moment not getting that much TV time, but he will begin to gain steam eventually and slowly get into that main event after several months. Stone Cold's slow rise from mid-carder to main eventer is very much worth watching. As for the Rock... well... he's not going to show up till later in 1996, but let's just say when the Rock shows up, he won't be the Rock... he will be Rocky Maivia... a happy, smiling, squeaky clean good guy with an ultra positive view on life who loves everything and would never make fun of anyone.... and the crowd reaction he is going to eventually get is going to be VERY interesting. His slow transition from Rocky Maivia to The Rock (which he will be forced to do. You'll see why) is a very interesting metamorphoses as the WWF (WWE) in general is forced to transform from the family friendly "New Generation" era into the "Attitude era" due to how badly they are about to be destroyed by WCW in every way possible. You'll see.

I really like how the series started out with a more "neutral/documentary" style tone and is now a lot more snarky. I love it and can't wait to finally binge more episodes

@@rikkihill22 I mean y'all aren't wrong. Ice in the winter isn't uncommon, but it's always manageable and maybe sucks for driving for about a day or two, but this is definitely a freak event. I personally love the cold and winter in general because screw summer heat, but I'm just done with this.
@@Thor-Orion we appreciate it. I luckily have power, but management forgot to drip the taps in the unoccupied apartment next to mine so a pipe burst and my place flooded. Luckily it didn't ruin everything, but my carpets absolutely have to be changed and I'm sure I lost some minor things considering I just moved in 2 weeks ago and still had things in boxes on the floor 😬
I always loved Bobby Heenan, but I especially loved him around this time because his whole take on Hogan’s heel turn was basically “I told you so!” Even turning heel couldn’t get the Brain on Hogan’s side. That’s a true commitment to the bit.
The makers of the new Mortal Kombat movie chose today to drop the trailer. The same day Glacier is featured on RTW. Coincidence? I think not.
We all know that Glacier is the fight choreographer for that movie.

This looks like it was made by people who grew up with the source material and who will give it proper attention. I like it. They proved with Sonic that this kind of VG movie can be done reasonably well.

Im really surprised they ever let Mongo McMichael do a Tombstone piledriver or any piledriver considering how potentially dangerous the move is and Mongo's inexperience in the ring.
Probably partially done to disrespect the Undertaker too. Have some novice doing his finisher devalues it.
I mean, it WAS WCW, so yeah.
Mongo belonged on the ring about as much as a Polar Bear belongs at the equator! It was a huge mistake to even allow him to join the Four Horsemen!

It is actually a very safe move and it was given to people with a lot of strength as an easy finisher. It is only dangerous when 150lb midgets do it because they are too short and not strong enough to hold the other guy in the right place.

Bret would have helped for sure. This was a complete throwaway episode of Raw. Where was Undertaker, Mankind, Goldust, etc? And the two people who are always absolute money in the ring...one is off making a soap opera, and the other is shackled to Ahmed Johnson in a backstage interview.
Owen Hart should have been the top heel in the WWF during The New Generation era. He was the precursor to Kurt Angle with his comedic abilities, but also a real threat in the ring. They really should have done more with him. I love that he would bring his slammy awards everywhere with him too. It's just these little touches that make him so brilliant.
Nawwww maybe in 1994 to 1995 he should have been world champion.

Rey is possibly retiring soon. He started wrestling back in 1989, when he was just 14 years old. He's had an amazing career, but age and injuries have taken their toll on his body. Will he actually retire, though? Only he knows when he'll call it a day in the Ring.
46-47 years old...and can move like he was still in his teens...well, for the most part. He deserves a WWE Hall of Fame spot, if he wants it.
Can't beleive this is 40 ep in already. Feels like it just started. Love this series. Always watch it as soon as possible.

Episode 40!!! What!!! Been here since reliving the war started.
And I have to say I love this reliving the war...it takes me back to when I was younger and so many memories when I was a huge wresting fan..it will never be that good again
What doesn't get enough credit is Schiavone's role in the Bash at the Beach ending. He ended the PPV with 'And Hulk Hogan, you can go straight to Hell'. He didn't even seem angry, just dissapointed and defeated. It's weird to use terms like this when talking about wrestling, but it was haunting. He went from cheering Hogan moments before to just being completely numb, in shock. His whole world was turned upside down and there was just nothing there anymore. Absolutely fantastic delivery.

I’ve just come across your channel a little over a week ago and started with a couple videos outside of this series. When I first saw this series on your playlist I thought it was a great idea but didn’t think I could actually relive the Monday night wars seeing how many episodes there are. But I watched the first Nitro video and first Raw video on Friday and then out of curiosity I watched the first battle to see how you put the battle together and now I just finished this episode and looking forward to watching the whole series. This has brought back so many memories and you do a fantastic job with these videos and definitely earned the sub. Keep up the great work and it shouldn’t be too long to catch up to your current videos in this series considering I watched 40 episodes in about 5 days.
