Hi again Tim, glad you got my reply. I did pretty good yesterday, gold in every pan, most small but some good size flakes. I used the shovel for the first time & it worked good, very strong & doesn't come loose when you tighten it down like other folding shovels, the only thing you might not like is the head spade is flat, not curved like other spades, but I was able to shovel out a lot of overburden, it works for me. It was good to get out there again, the American river still has lots of gold, most small, but fun to find, lots of exposed soft bedrock & crevices to work. One of these days I'll come across a nugget hopefully. Thanks, Serg
Hey man. Loving the video's. I've been watching them all night. Lol The little barbell you found is a fly weight/eyes off a fly for fishing. Look at the fly you found, that's the eye part of it. The big angled iron piece I believe is a anchor block for the old timers. They drilled a hole run a steel rod thru your piece on a angled rock and had a anchor point or a flat top for a board for walking rock faces with.

That big chunk of iron triangular shaped with a hole in the middle could possibly be and old fashioned strut bracket connector or a shock coupler. Just my opinion.
You are right, in the video after this I found an old mining camp from the 1800's. I also found some remnants of what looks like an old flume. I'm going back sometime in the future to metal detect the old mining camp.
I live in South Florida 30 min from Fort Lauderdale Beach which I call bottle cap beach. And pull tab park. Lol. I wish there were good clean hunting grounds .
Question, how come you're not using the whites detector to help discriminate out the hot rock, and using the graph it gives you to determine the metal it is detecting. I have the same model, same head and a Whites GMT as well. Granted I defiantly don't have the best experience metal detecting though. I'm located in Southern Oregon, was wondering where you're at.
I think that's a good guess on the block even though there is not a bridge nearby I suppose it could have floated way down on some wood. The nails appear to be from at least a couple different era's in time. Definitely need to do some exploring around the area to see what I can find when I get some time.
Your finding the old timers pots and nails from up stream so just stay with it. I'm injoying your channel. Stay positive and learn the various sounds of detector. Run almost all the material on bedrock. Just to see if ???
Yes you're right. In fact I did some exploring around the area and found a really old mining camp! I'm going to show it briefly in my next video probably and then scour it with a metal detector later on. I enjoy detecting for relics more than gold detecting because it's more fruitful. I haven't given up on gold detecting though, I'll be back at it.
Pretty sure you will have the same luck with a gold bug or other detectors like the goldmonster. I have had the same issue's whenever I've been out in northern California with my goldmonster. As a rule of thumb I just start panning or sluicing wherever I find a bunch of iron now. There or here in the midwest. As for that big piece of iron...no idea. The small piece was cool. I thought a warn down lighter striker, but its too shiny. Maybe some kind of jewelry. Is it magnetic? Look's like some kind of precious metal.
That's what I'm guessing about the detectors. I've only used VLF detectors and have not tried a pulse induction detector yet, hoping to get my hands on one to test as they work differently. Another viewer seemed to think the small piece as part of a fishing lure, I thought it looked kind of like a body piercing stud. It's not even slightly magnetic.
Yeah, I tried to look it up after that but couldn't find any information on how old it could be. It definitely looks old fashioned as no modern tire weights look like that. I'm finding square nails and round nails so I'm thinking maybe there is stuff from the 1800's mining days and the 1930's. Either way it was a long time ago because nothing is left but wilderness and pieces of metal.
I've been carefully studying all of the trees, rocks, and even the deer in the video. I am 100% sure that I have a clue on how to find Eric. Don't look here in Indiana. That is definitely not my state. Hope that helps...
Yeah, seems to be status quo with detecting. Even though there's nuggets there you still can't find them in areas like this with a detector. I guess that's good and bad. Those who are willing to dig a little get rewarded, but it's work to find the gold.
@@wildernesseric gotta go away from people most try, like creeks where the hike is harder. ToeToes always finds stuff, but he also find a ton of crap too.
@@petertwiss356 that's the crazy thing, this is away from people. Didn't expect to find this much stuff. I suspect now that there's probably some old mining camps around somewhere. I'm gonna do some exploring and see what I can find.
I've tried all 3 modes and get the same results. I did some testing and put a small nugget in with some black sand. The nugget reads as a hot rock because of all the mineralization(black sand) around it. I think this is the main reason I'm not finding nuggets with the detector, and there are way too many actual hot rocks to dig all the "hot rock" targets. I'm gonna have to try a few different types of detectors and see if I can find one that will work in this area.
I have looked around the area since this video and have found an old mining camp and possibly remnants of an old flume. I'm going back to metal detect the old mining camp sometime in the future.
@@wildernesseric oh sweet, how cool is that. Good luck searching for treasures my friend happy trails, safe travels & heavy pans Sir.
@@phylxguy5547Thank you, yeah I keep finding more and more cool stuff and places to treasure hunt in this area. Wish I had more time to explore it all. You find any valuable relics? I'm wondering if the old timers had a habit of stashing gold or coins.
@@wildernesseric well depending upon what you perceive as valuable I believe so haha I've found an allotment of tools, a belt buckle & multiple coins obviously not in tip-top shape nonetheless a treasure to me. Although I do know of a guy who has found a stash jar that has almost 1 oz of gold nuggets and a little bit of flour gold he found not far from a old pioneer campsite that was almost 10 years ago now but that showed either they stash ,lost, got robbed or possibly killed by either murder or sometimes of natural causes but they occasionally had something of significance that gets lost into time & mother nature's labyrinth of flora that takes back making for an incredible adventure searching thru the maze of obstacles put forth to aid in your experience.

@@danielhughes9556 that's a good thought. Though I wonder how it got to the river in the middle of nowhere? Maybe a piece of bridge that washed out way upstream or something? Maybe floated down connected to a piece of wooden structure?
@@danielhughes9556 oh, well I guess you're the right person to aske that question too then 😆 Now I wonder how old it might be? Also wonder if maybe it could be something to a piece of old mining equipment.
My friend has a gpz7000 but it does not work well in this area because there is too much metal trash and mineralized soil. It's quite a challenging area to detect.

I did for most of the time. I tested it with a small nugget I had and it seemed to work best on that mode with all the iron trash around.
