  • Finally was able to cross the river with my metal detector and prospect for gold nuggets on the inside bend where there is a ton of bedrock. I've been wanting to detect this spot since I got my Goldie Rocks claim but my metal detector is not waterproof and the water level has been too high to cross.
    The water level is low now and it's too cold to river snipe so today was the day and I fount my biggest nugget yet!
    The detector I'm using is a Whites MXT with a small nugget shooter coil.

    right on Eric, yeah that DeWalt I mentioned is light & easy to carry & very strong for it's size & easy to hide incase DFG comes around, funny BLM says it's ok w/ them, go figure. What I do is get a 3/4" surgical tube & put at end of nozzle about 12" to 14" length so you can get into those smaller cracks, works great. I couldn't believe all the material you were getting when you broke up the bedrock, pretty cool,

      Thanks. Yeah quite a surprise, that big nugget must have been the sound I heard on my second target but just didn't see it till I panned out the material. Yeah I really wish I knew the history of this claim spot. The previous holder had it for quite a while and never seemed to work it much. Lots of old relics around from the mining days but there still seems to be virgin bedrock and ancient stream deposits that are unworked so it's kind of a mystery. I know this general area has a history of some larger nuggets so it's always exciting to think of what I'll come across next.

    Eric, that's amazing looking bedrock & crevices there, so many places to dig, never ending and never enough time to get it all. suggestion: in order to save precious mining time, I pan down to the black sand then put that into a freezer bag to take home & run the black sand on my Miller table, I think the Miller table is the best way to get rid of the black sand & most of the gold stays on the Millet table top, there is rolly polly gold, so I have half Miller table at the top & half V-mat at bottom to catch the gold that goes down, works really good, takes time but hey, when your at home, should have plenty of time & you can do more mining this way. Also, get yourself a DeWalt 1.5 gal battery shop vacuum to get all the dirt cleaned up, this vac. is small & light & very strong, bring xtra batteries. Must be very exciting to find gold w/ the metal detector, I can't wait until I find mine. Very nice nugget also. VG is cool also.
    Thanks for the adventure, Serg

    • @wildernesseric
      @wildernesseric  7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks again. Awesome, I have a friend with a shaker table I should do that and just bring it to him. I've been collecting the black sand in a jar, at some point I'll process it out. Yeah I really do need to get a vacuum of some kind it would make things a lot quicker. I haven't gotten serious about processing volume yet, still just kinda poking around the claim to see what spots are hot and what spots are not. I've got a mile of river on this claim so it's gonna take a while! Yeah I purchased the metal detector like 10 years ago thinking I would find some nuggets... just now I FINALLY found some gold with it. Hopefully the first of many!

    Dont get hung up on the inside bends when looking for gold.
    Gold is where you find it .
    I dredged for over 30 years and most of the gold I found was on outside bends or in the middle of river in riffles behind big bedrock current brakes.

    • @wildernesseric
      @wildernesseric  7 місяців тому

      Sage advice. Could that be because the inside bends had already been worked? I am finding gold on the outside bends too just less of it but it's chunky. With 30 years of dredging experience I'd love to pick your brain about how and where to look when gold shipping.

    • @kirkstewart-vf6hg
      @kirkstewart-vf6hg 7 місяців тому

      Pick away at my brain if you like .
      Personally I just think the inside bend thing is just overrated as the best place to find gold.
      Riffles were always my best spot right in the middle of the river providing the bedrock had good crevices.
      Of course if you have any ancient river channel being eroded above your bedrock areas is a great place to search.

    • @wildernesseric
      @wildernesseric  7 місяців тому

      @@kirkstewart-vf6hg the middle of the river here seems to have too much overburden for sniping, I'll have to dredge it some day. Meanwhile I'm curious if you could describe the shape of the bedrock spots where you found your biggest nuggets and what was upstream from them etc.? I'm finding that the where the water swirls on the edge of a boulder or rock outcropping is where the gold drops out. So far I've found my biggest pieces where there is smoother bedrock upstream and then drops onto some rougher bedrock.

    • @kirkstewart-vf6hg
      @kirkstewart-vf6hg 7 місяців тому

      I have found most of my biggest nuggets either on broken serpentine bedrock or blue diorite.
      Have also chipped out ounce and half of nuggets in conglomerate just above bedrock.
      Best day I ever had was 4 1/2 ounces in 3 hours behind a bedrock outcrop in middle of a riffle it had sand behind it and my partner said I should check behind it.
      I told him hell it has sand behind it nothing will be there.
      So I put on face mask and started fanning with my hands to see anyways to satisfy him .
      The sand blew away and the crevices were yellow I about fell over.
      Started up the dredge just a 4 inch at the time and so damn much gold I had him run to the camp and get me a spoon to spoon it up with.
      Any Bed rock chuck above water that forms a split in the water current or calm is the best place to snipe if bedrock is shallow or exposed behind it.

    • @wildernesseric
      @wildernesseric  7 місяців тому

      @@kirkstewart-vf6hg Awesome! That's the stuff dreams are made of. Most of the gold I'm finding is under sand behind obstructions in the river so yeah sand is a good indicator here as well even though people say there's not much in the sand spots. Serpentine, diorite, and granite are pretty much all of the bedrock on my claim and transitions in some areas so I'm thinking there is lode gold here too. Good to hear about giant nuggets hiding in the conglomerate above the bedrock, as I move on the bedrock toward the ancient stream bank I run into a whole side of conglomerate. I haven't processed much of it yet but plan to break some up and run it through a sluice in the future. I have found some nice bits of gold in the little bit of conglomerate that I have broken up though. Thanks for the tips, what's your record nugget?

    Congratulations that’s the toughest one!
    Tear the bed rock up with the right tools make a mess and then detected!
    Your detector will not be ruined if you drop it in the water or get it wet!
    I’ve owned about every detector made for gold and there extremely tough in fact when they get dirty yeah in the switches and so forth I actually wash them in warm soapy water let them dry out good in the works like new.
    Your Coyle is probably the weakest link make sure you were in Coil covers and when you beat it up and The inside of the coil gets loose drill some show holes in it squirt some silicone in there so don’t send your false signals make sure your call wires wrapped up properly and does not get damaged make your machine solid so the call wires aren’t flopping around your machine is not flopping around your headphones are not shorting out so your machine is solid no false signals always use your headphones.
    Keep your coil on the ground kick stuff out of the way with your feet if your coil is not 3 inches or less you detecting nothing if you go over a rock that’s 2 inches in diameter you’re not detecting anything look for the small clear signals most people Hunt nails or cans
    Nuggets or small and have one field.1Beep
    Any metal has a north and south field 2Beeps
    Sniping is the best way to learn more gold hangs out.
    Semi dry Suit stay light cover ground. You can always go back with the right tools.
    Best time for mining is right now when that rain is coming down harder I’m headed out right now to prep don’t have no water in them normally. Throw the rock out roll the rocks out if they’re bigger walk up and down stay active in the water it will concentrate and get you down to bedrock Follow the old timers

      Yeah, mainly I'm just having fun and love to get out but the hobby is definitely paying for its self. My metal detector paid for its self when I found a big piece of railroad track out in the woods. I've managed to find enough gold to pay for my gas and my gear. Not getting rich with it but it's less expensive than fishing 🤣 There's always that chance that you'll find the big one too... then all the time would be more than worth it.

      @wildernesseric Ya,I used to love fishing,as a young boy,but as the years went by, I got impatient with the fish, and they just refused to co-pperate and get on the hook asap! Also,fake rubber lures never worked for me!
      But I'm with ya on this, chasing gold and minerals is fun! Or intriguing!
      It's like having a box of crackerjack, ya never know what you'll find in the box for a prize!
      For the younger generation,that don't see Crackerjacks products it's a box of flavored popcorn,with a prize inside (I hear the sales just went up,ca- ching!),but you knew there was supposed to be a prize inside but ya never knew till you opened the box,sorta like prospecting,,and dumped it out! At least us impatient kids, the others ate thier way to the bootom to find the prize!Sometimes I did it that way .
      Have you ever heard of"greenstone"? That a granite quartz mix on your claim is what one of our local mines is mining!
      The one caveat is bears! Last summer while exploring my claims, I came back to my truck to find huge bear scat about 500 feet from it! And Canad wants to ban guns! The grizzly are up to 1500 lbs near prince george bc!
      These are huge animals! And the mountain lions, don't forget them too!
      The problem with searching for gold with a buzzing beep noise is the distraction from your surroundings, even without the metal detector, y
      your so intense on the gold persute! Keep your head up once in a short while, and having a dog with you is best!
      Mine was half wolf/shetland collie and wouldn't back down from a mother bear and her 3 cubs that came to my place one day! I had a deer jumpinh over my truck while I was going by,I found it dead and fed it to my dog,he wouldn't eat the raw heart so he buried it by a big pine which brought her around!
      Bears have great noses,can smell fish a mile away!
      Anyways have fun! Just so we all know ,how much was your mine lab metal detector?
      I would like to see a unit that can vibrate like a cell phone or flash 3 different colored lights for the indication of metals!
      Thst way,ya can maybe hear an animal approaching,also since I have tinnitus from loud noises in garages I'd like to see one with other then just beeping!
      Yellow fir gold red for Iron and green for mixed metals! Or another light for intensity of search results!
      See ya!
