Yeah, Goldberg being booked to wrestle 30 minute matches while “selling" pain and injuries, plus doing cutesy poo segments with other babyfaces, is NOT how Goldberg got over.
It explains EVERY WCW/ECW guy's career EXCEPT Jericho (who, surprisingly enough, threatened to leave in 2000 due to the shoddy booking he was getting, so they tossed the title on him for one night on RAW in a reign UNRECOGNISED by the company's record books, just to give it back to Triple H a few days later on Smackdown) and Eddie Guerrero (who was propelled to satisfy WWE's growing Latino market, which is something WWE's been trying to do ever since with Alberto Del Rio [before the DRAMA with Paige consumed his life], Sin Cara, and Kalisto). After all, Booker T was BURIED by the WrestleMania 19 RACISM storyline & it took being "King Bookah" for him to be a Hall of Fame-worthy champion, R.V.D was BURIED by his own problems with illegal weed, Rey Mysterio only became a big name due to WWE piggybacking off the death of Eddie Guerrero as previously mentioned, and all the rest were lower midcard/jobber fodder for the main eventers (Brock Lesnar, JBL, John Cena [upper midcard himself as the Dr. of Thugonomics], and Evolution [HHH, Flair, Randy Orton, and Batista]).
You can say what you want, I still feel that Goldberg had a solid year in the WWE. He beat The Rock, Christian in a Steel Cage match, Chris Jericho and then won the World Heavyweight Championship at Unforgiven (yes, he should have won it at SummerSlam, but that's a simple mistake), and he held the Title for 3 months. After losing the Title, they then spend 3 months building up a match with Brock Lesnar for WrestleMania. He basically only lost at SummerSlam and Armageddon. I just wish his match with Triple H at Survivor Series was like a Street Fight or something. Goldberg was booked as The Man for the entire year, and every rivalry was solid and ended with him winning. People seem to forget that after he lost the WCW Championship to Kevin Nash at Starrcade 1998 (which I liked, because he still looked dominate, and they had a story to show with him trying to regain the Championship). In 1999 and 2000/2001, Goldberg was US Champion for 1 day and Tag Team Champion for 6 days with Bret Hart, but he never regained the WCW Title, and was wasted for the rest of his WCW career. Goldberg's run in WWE from 2003 to 2004 was solid, he won the World Title, and got a WrestleMania victory, most would kill for a year like that. The question will always be what would've happened had he stayed for another year, would he have won the World Title again, or move to SmackDown and win the WWE Title from JBL, that could've been cool. At least he got his final run in 2016-2017. Now he's happily retired, and we just have to wait to see when they induct him into the Hall of Fame.
Yeah, I'm not sure what people expected or hoped for with Goldberg. He was, for the most part, not a very versatile talent or character and he also wasn't really a lifer. Was he supposed to just be unbeaten his entire career? Lol. He was always booked pretty well and better than I think he really deserved.
@@Y2JLionHeart Not put him in dumb backstage segments that undermine his character and have him lose to a single sledgehammer shot after beating four guys in a row and beating the fifth guy senseless.
@@okagron I don't think he fought Kevin Nash in the EC. He took out Orton,HBK and Y2J in a matter of minutes. Each one could give Triple H a run for his money. I hate the ending of the match, but I'm glad it wasn't like WM XIX.
Yes, better to split the two obviously disinterested wrestler on their last day of work who have no love for the industry and don't care if they stink in their last match. That's what would have helped. I'd rather this be the contained situation it was.
You can keep thinking that them facing Angle and Guerrero would suddendly make them care enough to give a good performance, but from what I've seen, these two guys didn't care about wrestling or the WWE, Goldberg admitted he wasn't a fan of the product, Lesnar thought he was gonna be a NFL player. I don't see how them having to face different opponent would have given them reasons to care.
Jericho, I like Adam's idea too but if the WWE is building the Goldberg/Brock match from Survivor Series for WM, then it's gonna happen since Vince said so.
Your videos are the best because you’re so down to earth. Even though we don’t always agree, we both look at wrestling from the viewpoint of a fan. You’re not ashamed to speak your mind on anything and I highly respect that.
I remember watching that match between Brock Lesnar and Eddie Guerrero live. The feeling of joy when Eddie won was incredible, and it makes me think that they're trying to recreate that feeling for when Brock drops the title again
Watched wrestling during the Bret hart to about the end of Attitude era. Never watched WCW until my recent interest back to pro wrestling. So I'm discovering the WCW legends. I feel like Goldberg was right up there with Stone Cold and the Rock. His entrance is chilling every time.
I disagree with the hate that the Goldberg-Lesnar match from WM gets. So what if both guys were leaving? It was their right to leave, and news about their forthcoming departures was never disclosed by the WWF, making this another example where the internet spoiled a match for fans who weren't disciplined enough to read up on wrestling news that would spoil their enjoyment of wrestling matches or events. When it came to Sid vs Hogan at WM8, the WWF openly promoted that match as possibly Hogan's last match with the company. He did end up sticking around for a little over a year, but didn't wrestle much during that time, and Sid ended up leaving the WWF shortly after his main event match with Hogan. No one holds the fact that both Sid and Hogan were on their way out of the WWF against them when it comes to that match. The Lesnar-Goldberg match was fine. Both guys put on a decent performance in the ring, even though the crowd was shitting on them. This was a problem of entitled fans feeling like they were being 'betrayed' by the wrestlers for not staying around after Wrestlemania. Instead of living in the moment and enjoying the match for what it was, they let their sense of entitlement manifest to the point that all they did was verbally insulted the performers, discouraging them from putting on a good performance.
I have to respectfully disagree. I went in to that match not knowing ANYTHING as I did not keep up with website rumours (or fact, as it happened) and totally forgot about Goldberg being 1 year only. I was effectively just a regular viewer the WWE likely liked most (watching the story unfold, no spoilers, living in the kayfabe etc... all for the reason you touch on) and was still hoping the Goldberg equivalent of "the old Stone Cold" would eventually shine through. Yes, even at that point - they had built him up so much and he had a huge reputation from the wcw days. I figured SURELY they would unleash him properly - particularly as it got more and more apparent that the Rock was never coming back (even to the story only follower of the time) and HHH was burying everything even remotely good (obvious to even the most casual of fans). With that being said...... the match was just terrible to watch. Aside from the crowd giving them shit, it was just a LOT of standing around before kicking off with some LONG power grapples, a few signature moves then the ending. Neither had their heart in the match in ANY way and it showed (though I think Goldberg at least showed slightly more of a shit and didn't flip off the crowd... perhaps as he became the defacto face at the last minute). In retrospect, with the Lesnar news, Goldberg might have been able to get an extension and perhaps a bit of his then tarnished image back by smashing Lesnar. I'd have insisted on a switch to Smackdown if I was him and in that position - proximity to HHH = Career/character killing). The comparison with Syd and Hogan is not really that suitable as there was no MAJOR competitor organisation for either to later appear in (and Lesnar was leaving the industry altogether - not just WWE). Fans knew they would at least get to see Hogan/Nash/Hart etc... in WCW. Where were they going to see Goldberg? TNA? Urgh.
it was not about their leaving. it was about they did not put enough effort in their "farewell match". the match was so boring, I'd rather support Austin who was the guest referee than Goldberg or Lesnar.
The match was dull and boring, that is the issue. It's not a "fine" match because that's being disrespectful to actually fine matches. Plus, a match between Goldberg and Lesnar shouldn't be just "fine". It should have been a big hoss fight where two big dudes throw power moves at each other. Instead it's a slow, plodding, really boring, very long match that doesn't play to any of either competitors's strengths.

Shaming Goldberg for not liking his company but picking up a paycheck is like shaming anyone that works a job that they hate. Bills are Bills especially when you want all the muscle cars in the world. :)
Goldberg has "Ex-NFL" syndrome, whereby as athlete from another sport starts wrestling solely for a paycheck, the owner of the federation goes nuts over having a "real" athlete in the company and starts putting him over relentlessly to a lukewarm audience, and the rest of The Boys don't respect him and do everything they can to stifle his run. See also Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, Bradshaw, Ahmed Johnson, Lex Luger, Jim Duggan, etc. Even Duane Johnson had a shitty run until his charisma won the marks over.

Luger is the definition of not good, but he was the American Hero the late 80s/early 90s loved, but ultimately Bret was the winner of the face title. You're right about Rock.
PhenomenalRHCP The Rock is just a spotlight stealer nowadays. Every time he shows up Vince McMahon cums at the idea that he can cater to both audiences and decides to put him at the top. No! He is a large part as to why CM Punk left and he ruined Lana's reputation and he buried the Wyatt Family and it only took them a year to redemption. The Lana thing pissed me off the most, and I understand that it was punishment for the whole revelation of her engagement with Rusev but that move saved us from a shitty storyline, which makes Lana my hero of 2015. As for The Rock, he needs to stop with this has-been fantasy and just do Fast and Furious movies before he makes Kevin Owens dip too.
That second block was because WWE went through personally to find anything they could on Goldberg that might've shown they didn't treat perfectly right. Nothing you can do will stop them from doing it again if they want to.
In regards to the wig, Goldberg himself wanted to try some comedy angles. You've gotta remember a lot of the things we see on tv are ideas the wrestlers come up with themselves.

The way it should have went: Goldberg comes in and on his second appearance ANNIHILATES Triple H for the title belt, then spends the rest of his year successfully defending it till WrestleMania XX where he loses it to Lesnar. Much more convincing

Love the content man I just thought to myself though I wonder if the reason content like this or THE Wrestling fan when he reviewed bad matches get claimed a lot due to wwe or TNA not wanting people to know that what they did was a bad idea
Brock will screw Goldberg. Vince will have gone completely senile if he tries to make Goldberg/Brock the main event at Mania, considering Goldberg can't go for over 5 minutes.
Great video. I never knew about Goldberg refusing to do the Australian tour which explains a lot about how he was booked after that. I don't think the vast majority of fans know this and assumed it was all HHH when it came to burying him but it seems that he pissed off Vince and that was his ultimate downfall.
I love these videos and this channel. I haven’t watched wrestling regularly since 2010, and these days, I dont watch any of it on TV, don’t have the network, and will keep up from time to time with what I see on UA-cam. I have been saying this for year. Vinnie Mac is successful despite himself. He didn’t want to put over the WCW guys, because, they were our competition. Let’s burrrry em!. Um, the company went under, you bought them, and hired the wrestlers, and then paid them only to ruin them, and your product as well. That is the dumbest thing ever. Imagine if a big corporation did that. They bought out another brand/product and purposely now made that product like shit, so people stop buying it and they now lose tons of money in the process. That’s what Vince did over and over. Imagine if they have booked Goldberg properly for a 2 or 3 year run. Imagine if they had hired Sting (who never wanted to sign once he saw how the guys like Goldberg, DDP and others were buried) and on and on and on. It’s even worse nowadays as Vince just runs the company like shit and no wrestlers can get over.
As much as they treated Goldberg much better in his second run, you could argue that it did more harm than it did good, therefore almost worse than his first run
He asks, what do you remember more? His World Title Run? Or that blonde wig segment? Obviously for me it’s his world title run, Hell, I’ve never even seen that blonde wig bit until watching this video. So thank you for that. Lol

*Goldberg(2003):* "Hey Sting! I just Called to Warn You...When Triple H Approaches You in 12 Years about a Match at Wrestlemania 31 in 2015...Just Run!! Run as far away as Possible like Your Ass is Tom Hanks in "Forrest Gump"! Please...for the Love of God and All that is Holy...Just RUN!"
Z Man's inner Cornette starts appearing around the 10 min mark. Love the old vids.
Adam Blampied did a reworking of how WWE should of booked Goldberg knowing he would be with the company for only a year. It would have been awesome.
Please do a review of Undertaker/ Goldberg at Super Showdown. That was PAINFUL
I've seen this before, but I don't mind seeing this again!

Man young Brian got a lot more pissed
The way it should have went: Goldberg comes in and on his second appearance ANNIHILATES Triple H for the title belt, then spends the rest of his year successfully defending it till WrestleMania XX where he loses it to Lesnar. Much more convincing
I saw the last 2. I just enjoy your vids man. You are (in my opinion) one of the best UA-camrs. Top 5 easily.
Someone's gotta do brock lesner vs the English language 👍
shaun Britton That’s a good idea but I have a better one: Brock Lesner and Scott Steiner VS English and Math.
You should do an update to this with his 2016-2017 WWE run.
So....i did watch this again...............and i'm glad i did - i forgot all about that song, brb, finding song.....
You should definitely do more of those :)
Love the content man I just thought to myself though I wonder if the reason content like this or THE Wrestling fan when he reviewed bad matches get claimed a lot due to wwe or TNA not wanting people to know that what they did was a bad idea
That Comic Sans for the No Way Out graphics tho
ahhh, the old intro makes me smile :)
6:44 is the best part
That Brock Goldberg promo is hilarious 😂 😂
Anybody ever notice that Goldberg's Invasion theme is suspiciously similar to the Terminator 2 main theme?
I loved this so much. I've seen this video 4 times now lol
Goldberg was the most baddass wrestler in my eyes when i was a kid. Im scared of him 😂
this is one of your best videos
“Brock Lesnar vs Goldberrrrrg.”
-Brock Lesnar 2004
Years later 1:51 cracks me up every time.
Am I the only one who thinks Goldberg shouldn't win at fast lane?
Honestly, not at all. And he shouldn't. But WWE will never not put a part timer over a top heel in the company (unless it's another part timer).
Fujisaur yes
Fujisaur I think Brock Lesnar will interfere and Kevin will take the pin
Brock will screw Goldberg. Vince will have gone completely senile if he tries to make Goldberg/Brock the main event at Mania, considering Goldberg can't go for over 5 minutes.
he shouldn't win vs owens but to build even more hype for wrestlemania he will win sadly
I'll watch it again. Thanks for the great videos!
I took an over 10 year break from regularly watching wrestling. I missed Goldberg's WWE run. But I was a Goldberg mark in the WCW days.
Also that elimination chamber, ric flair give triple the sledgehammer
He forgot when Goldberg came out of a broom closet literally
HellOOO I'm Wrestling With Wregret. I remember it, so YOU won't have to.
"Eddie Guerrero...th-toled my title!"
Great video. I never knew about Goldberg refusing to do the Australian tour which explains a lot about how he was booked after that. I don't think the vast majority of fans know this and assumed it was all HHH when it came to burying him but it seems that he pissed off Vince and that was his ultimate downfall.
Why would you not watch these again, really.
It's Brian Zane, and the content is awesome, It's almost a no-brainer that you watch it again lol
Gillberg probably reported the video
Well, third time's the charm indeed 'cause UA-cam just randomly recommended this video to me, and obviously it's still up. 😁👍
Brian please do a top 8 most satisfying stunners of stone cold. I know Vince will be on there a few times
No Brian I will watch it again... because I actually really liked this episode
1:51 “the goalieeee!” 😂
I've watched it but you the goat so I'll watch it again
As much as they treated Goldberg much better in his second run, you could argue that it did more harm than it did good, therefore almost worse than his first run
I wish Brian would do an update on this video adding his Universal Title win and hall of fame induction.
I would have never remembered the wig
Goldberg doesn’t like the WWE product (neither do I) but he’s STILL picking up a cool 2 million to re-sign with them for their Saudi Arabia show.
He asks, what do you remember more? His World Title Run? Or that blonde wig segment? Obviously for me it’s his world title run, Hell, I’ve never even seen that blonde wig bit until watching this video. So thank you for that. Lol
This video is even funnier now after Goldberg's constant returns and horrid matches.
I'm glad you got unblocked again Brian. And at least they booked Goldberg correctly this time around, so far anyway.
Damn they almost booked Goldberg PERFECTLY at the Summerslam Elimination Chamber! Just spear HHH, cover and win!
Hey folks, 2022 wrestling fan here. I’m just gonna point y’all to 10:30 in this video. That is all.
