Thank you! Really glad to hear that about the comparison sound tests! I had another person tell me they were "the most confusing comparison sound tests" they'd ever seen lol
I think the effect of wobble is that when you press the switch not exactly in the center of keycap - it become less smooth because the stem pole contacts the bottom housing. It is most noticeable when using a lubed switch with stem pole not lubed
I have Lavenders on my Ikki68 and I used PC plate with just the buttom silicon installed. It's not muted on mine, it's very clacky instead. It was muted thocky when I used the alu plate.
Another banger vid, Caloy! I really like how you set up the sound test with the bottom bars indicating with what's being recorded. Personally I find filming to help with switch sound if the switch has a ticking/rattle noise, though the noise only occurs if the switch housings are loose or wobbly. I've found it improved the sound of my Tangerine V2s, Kiwi V2s, Gateron Yellows, but no improvement with Glorious Pandas, or Gazzew Boba U4s (both of which are known for their tight housings). Can't wait for your next video!
Glad you got into the confusing variations between different vendors, and BTW, the ones at ELBoard are 63.5g instead of 58g. I've been using blacks and considering getting lavenders off of sound tests, so this was helpful!
Yeah, I saw that weight difference and verified mine using a couple of unscientific methods, first, with a scale and some coins, and second, by pressing the switches against some other switches that I knew the weights of. They did come out to about 58.5g and 65g for the Blacks and Lavs, respectively. But then I got a comment on this video saying they'd asked the shop where I bought the Blacks from and the shop said they're 63g 😵
@@CaloysKeyboards I've been trying to keep track of the activations/bottom-outs of a switch tester I pieced together, and found vendors inconsistent on weights for the same switch models or giving the same weight but for activation vs bottom-out, so I take vendor stats w/a block of salt now unless they went the extra mile to put up weight graphs 🤷🏻♂
I've been on the fence for too long whether I was going JWK Blacks or a tactile switch. SquishyTypes saved me from further hassle because I saw they were selling JWK Lagoons (T1) there, so I had to go for it as JWKs are really a no brainer for me, and I really liked the characteristics of tactiles. Nonetheless I might go for the Blacks for my next build, being persuaded by this vid lol. Cheers to this hobby, and to you bro.

may i know where you bought your JWK Blacks? also from the philippines. i purchased mine but there is no JWICK branding on the top of the switch housing
From Squishy Types on Shopee. I added the link to the description. I think there are two versions of this switch. The older one didn't have the JWick logo. Not sure what other differences there are between the two.
@@CaloysKeyboards also bought mine from squishy types/espyco. ordered mine last sept, i messaged them immediately why is there no jwick branding on the top of the switch and they replied that there is no branding. when did you bought yours?
I got the jwick blacks and i like it's clack as well. at first i like the stock springs on it but it was too light for me. but still great value. and a cheaper route in filling up larger boards. don't need to film them as well as the housing is fairly tight. nice comparison bro! Though for my end game and preference, I like another jwk recolor. the JWK Matcha's. Cheers! :)
From watching the filmed and unfilmed switches I almost can’t tell the difference. What I hear between the two is a slight clarity almost of the sound.
Great production quality and research! I've used lavenders lubed and filmed in my daily driver for 7ish months, and just recently used jwick blacks. I find the lavenders to become louder and have a bit more clack with a lot of constant use, and the sound from when I first put them in my board to now is noticeable to me, much alike what I've hard about NK creams. That being said, the jwicks for sure have more clack. (This may be due to the lighter springs and being easier to bottom out) It's a pleasant sound and I personally am a big fan. I think the sound of the two compared is similar, so for someone who is having trouble picking between these switches: Do you like heavier springs and a slightly quieter sound? Get lavenders. Do you like a lighter spring and a louder noise? Get jwicks. Also, a factor to consider is all the boards tested here were plastic, which can contribute to the sound a lot. I have comparasins of the jwicks and lavenders on a bakeneko on my channel if anyone wants to get a reference of them on an aluminum board.
I have lavenders, lubed with 105 on the springs, 295 G0 on the rest and filmed with deskeys. To me they sound and feel amazing but I’m fairly new to the hobby and don’t have anything else to go by apart from Gat browns and Kailh Box browns which obviously isn’t the best comparison. I have some Thic Thock konpeitous coming in the mail to try out a more “clacky” chalky sounding switch and I also have some Boba U4T’s which I haven’t got round to lubing yet but after trying the Lavenders I feel myself leaning towards linear anyway. I think like a lot of newbies I thought I would find Li ears a bit to boring but I was so wrong about that. The feel of a 205 G0 lubed linear is something I can’t go back on
Nice! Linear gang here too. I recently got the Bobas too and they're ok. They sound way better than Glorious Pandas but the hyper tactility is really not for me.
Thanks for the video and sound comparisons. Just bought some Lavenders (haven't yet arrived) and managed to get them for $0.36 a switch (£0.31) bit of a bargain me thinks! 😎
It's really heavily dependent on the board but I'd say they're pretty middle-ground in terms of pitch, maybe leaning slightly more toward deep than high. They're not as deep as Inks but not as clacky as Akko Radiant Reds.
great video, thanks! I'm curious what happens if you swap the springs on these two switches. I have lavenders and I feel like the muted sound comes from the short and heavy-ish spring: it's light at the top so the return is not that poppy and heavy at the bottom so you don't quite bottom out.
Thank you! I actually thought of the same thing while making this video. I spring swapped a couple of each switch and I found that they sounded pretty much the same even with different springs so I'm pretty sure it's mainly the housing materials causing the sound difference.
Nicely done! I agree that the Lavenders do tend to be overly quiet. I tried using Kaihl Black stems with the lavenders, and its a great improvement. Slightly more stem wobble but it's lower pitch and clackier than stock Lavenders. One of the better Frankenswitches I've heard IMO.
Depends on your budget. Not a whole lot I can say for budget, maybe something to do with MX blacks. Midrange, i would reccomend the Durock L-series, and for a higher budget, I would reccomend the Gateron Ink Blacks.
