I just finished this workout now. I’m a Taekwondo black belt who went into competitive powerlifting for a bit to increase strength potential. I got a 435lbs deadlift, 250 bench and 385 squat @145lbs bodyweight. And this workout was probably harder than anything I’ve done 😂 Awesome job, Shane! I’m gonna keep doing this routine on my off days
I remember 50 years ago when I thought I was the "Greatest" because I was into power-lifting - 300 bench and squat and 400 deadlift at 165 lbs. Then I joined a local karate school (dojo). After 30 minutes of their warmups and calistentics, I was ready to heave up a lung. What a rude awakening for me - the "Greatest". After that first 30 minutes, I still had another 90 minutes to go for sparring and kata practice. It hurts just to think about it.
Just started and I am 68 yrs old but expperieced martial artist! Will advise but definately sore after two days! I feel stronger and quicker! Thanks Man! I will subscribe!
Great tutorial. I've been doing it for the last 2 weeks (2-4 times a week) and I've actually seen a big improvement in my kicks, both height and chamber! Thanks Shane!
Yeah… I started karate at 37. Next month will be 10 years. My kicks are not bad for an old man but I see him kicking and I’m drooling. Such beauty. I am still striving to get there, which is why I’m here learning!!

I lift weights at the gym, and I jog, and I do a decent amount of cardio, but learning how to do this, and strengthening kicks is so freaking hard compared to my other workouts. I love it....thanks!
My hamstrings were keeping me from kicking high. So, I cut my hamstrings and can now kick to the face. Unfortunately, I can't bring my leg back to the chambered position. Seriously, though, these exercises will make a person aware of muscles they never knew they had. I've only seen ballet dancers with such control over their leg muscles but Tae Kwon Do practitioners come in highly rated, too.
Lol Taekwondo practitioners have wayyy more leg control. We're putting power and accuracy behind our strikes. Ballet isn't powerful and you don't require the same level of control to execute the movements.
As a Taekwondo 3rd Dan, I confirm that this sick workout is pretty much the fastest way to better kicks, whatever your level at kicking is... Thanks for the great and complete video ! Don’t forget to let your body rest at least a day after, so you avoid injuries : if you’re not used to doing these exercises your body’s going to take a real shock and will need to “repair” enough first...
if you’re not used to doing these exercises.....u`ll die :) ,....keep the leg high, for 10 secs after kicking...dude, that is reaaaaaally hard. But the video it`s suuuuuuper useful and thanks Shane for doing this !
thank you so much! I'm a beginner in Muay Thai and having trouble with my kicks even though i have the flexibility. this workout helps me to train the balance and the muscles required for these kicks
Great vid. Thanks! You were breathing AFTER your kicks, which will get you much more winded much more quickly. Remember to breath out as you strike; not before or after. I've been teaching for three decades, and have found this to be most helpful. Again, great vid.

I'm. Doing Taekwondo since 5 years, and my techniques are quite bad. So I want to improve my kicks, before taking my black belt testing in autumn. (yeah I know, in very short time, but I'm doing it for myself and others would definitely crush me in a fight) I want to document my journey here and push myself to levels I've never reached Day 1: I gasped in pain. When you push yourself and do it properly it is really hard. I can barely move my front kick up and down und keep my back straight. Day 2: weird muscle soreness, I haven't experienced often. Today I did two rounds of the kick isolation training. I needed instantly a towel. The last stretching exercise for me it is very uncomfortable, but after doing it it feels good. Day 3: I'm getting more familiar with the exercises. Footwork is easy for me. But the kick isolation dexterity and balance training "kills" me. Afterwards it feels so good. Day 4: did the exercises today with my students, they all sweated To be continued... Day 5: Restday Day 6: did the exercises twice Day 7: same as day 6 Week 2: Week 3:

I was born with hyperextended knees so I usually struggle trying to do leg workouts properly, especially with throwing proper kicks, but your steps were really easy to follow! Although I did struggle a quite a lot on my first try, I can feel my leg muscles work and that makes me satisfied so I’m not giving up! Thank you for your workout video, I’m going to do this as many time as I can each week! 😄
Great video! I forgot about some of these. By the way! 0:47 that is beautiful form on that sidekick!! You can tell Shane has been loving the sidekick and throwing them a lot, and working on them a lot, he’s mentioned the sidekick a bunch in a lot of the videos in the past few months, as far back as the Stephen Thompson sparring video. 😆😄 maybe it’s was that session that sparked that!
If you want to improve the power of your thrusting side kick pull your knee to the opposite chest to 'cross' in front rather than just straight up and rotate your hip so that you are almost facing away like a spinning back thrust kick, I think your chambering is still a bit 'front on', the chambering for a side kick in TKD is almost like turning your back to them while you thrust out, the chambering being folding the leg back and across the front pulling the knee up to the opposite chest/breast. Then you can get more force and power from the gluts into the kick's thrusting motion.
And most people today when they lose a fight have guns and people just dont care anymore so be careful just dont go looking for trouble but if it happens to find you then your ready
