I designed a whole new enclosure for a friend of mine, I finished it last week and still haven't published it lol, but it was a fun exercise and my friend and his family are delighted with the new key. I didn't bother purchasing a new battery, though. I just cut the old one and capton-taped a new 2032 to the contacts. Works wonders.
Thanks for the video! I am going to try this. Yes, the key charges with induction small amount every time you push it to the ignition or turn it (not sure witch). You can also charge it by placing it on top of electric toothbrush charger :D
Truly a great video and project .I was doing the same thing in recent weeks with my Neptune 4 pro, after several attempts I threw all my prototypes in the bin. Grazie mille A thousand thanks
That is a lot of work for a keyfob, but it’s a brand-new battery versus one that could be dead beyond recharging. I did see other videos that use an induction charging station, such as for a smartwatch and toothbrush (this method is harder due to the protruding base prong).
I'd probably just change the fuse and sidestep changing the battery. 😅 Good work though. Great patience. There are key cases available in different colours that i think clip together, there similare to yours but far more bulky. I had one a while back, but you might pull inspiration for your next iteration.
Nice job! my OEM e46 key is the same as yours, but its missing a capacitor. If possible could you measure the capacitance of the cap (at 3:06 in the video) that sits just to the right of your thumb opposite the coil.
Bro, just put a silicone cover and attach a keychain, that way it is to some extent water and dust proof and even if the silicone case fails the keychain will still have everything attached. Ran with my key sliced open like this for about a year, zero problems.
@@alexderkach_ Thx i just picked it up. So the Battery in the Key is bad and i cant open the passanger side from outside only from inside so i hope i can fix this. And it got sunroof to ;:D
You’ve made an excellent purchase, sir. I only wish they were more affordable, cars in general have been getting crazy expensive around here. Thats partially the reason why I’m sticking to my high mileage hero 320td
Only 120€ ??? they are asking me 240€ for key + 67€ for reprogramming ... 3:05 you see the copper coil there? it's wireless induction rechargeable like modern mobile phones. The charger part is in-build into your car near ignition, so the key will recharge while driving -- at least it's supposed to, if your battery has not died to old age and the charger there has not died. LUCKILY for me, I was able to buy from amazon the "blank" BMW key chassis/fob with new battery (openable, not glued together, so permanently servicable) for like 10€ + 15€ for the key copy part at local locksmith; then I cut open the old key fob, replaced the battery myself (some soldering required), and inserted the old key circuit with new battery to the newly cut amazon key fob/chassis and it looks perfect (except missing bmw logo). Much easier for "normal person" than starting 3D printer hobby ;-)
What's really fun is when the key fob stops working and then your door lock on the driver side (the only one on the car) breaks and then you can't get into the car, forcing you to break the rear quarter glass to be able to get into the car.
@@alexderkach_ Thanks I'll look it up. When it happened and I called around and the locksmiths or tow companies would not touch it because it was a BMW so I was on my own.

An absolute saint. My key is currently held together with duct tape because I had to change the battery and it keeps falling apart, so this is perfect
My pleasure man! Glad someone found this helpful. I've been using this case on my key fob for three weeks now - so far so good 👍

Oh, thanks for the info and for your nice comment!

Thanks @alessionicola1037 !!
Thank you dude!
Put the key on a wireless cell phone charger over night and the key will recharge. Should be good for 5 to 10 years

Leave key in car over night to recharge. Yes, it's induction, and charges when the key is in the ignition.
You can also use a toothbrush charger, just place the key on top of it
Sell this as a Repair kit , I would buy 2
Wow thanks! What price you think would be acceptable for a kit like this?
$29 usd@@alexderkach_

I would, just done the superglue method yesterday.
Ok, I’ll look into it and update you in a pinned comment on this video.

If this happens to you ever again you may wanna try the duct tape method to roll the window down
