A nice and easy 40-minute job that turned into a two-day struggle under the sun a trip to the junkyard. If you ever need to do this on a D16 with ignition coils, please, for the love of God, be careful with the alternator connections. I didn't get the chance to film this part because of how tightly packaged everything is in there. The AC line just couldn't be in a worse spot. Update: it turns o...

Nice job! my OEM e46 key is the same as yours, but its missing a capacitor. If possible could you measure the capacitance of the cap (at 3:06 in the video) that sits just to the right of your thumb opposite the coil.
I can't recommend poly RTABs in a e46! I had Strongflex red PU RTABs and the driving was horribile on high speeds and high speed corners. At low speeds it was okay. But since I switched to Uniball RTABs the car feels totally different! Much safer, much more planted on the Road an in Corners. And while braking the rear stays where it should be: straight. Best mod for e46 imo. Your rear diff bushing looks cooked too. Needs a replacement soon. Keep the good work up!
Thanks for sharing your experience! In my case, it's the complete opposite, I can't recommend them enough. Your problem with Strongflex Red PU cound be due to their compound being softer (80 ShA vs Powerflex's Black Series 95 ShA) or the overall design of their RTAB's, leaving wheel misalignment aside. But either way, glad to hear you've been getting good results with the Uniballs, from what I understand, they seem to be the quintessential RTAB for the E46 chassis. Did you leave the rest of the bushings stock? Or you're using then in combination with PU and rubber? Any recommendations on suspension dampers? In regards to the diff bushing - yes, it's cooked. I have a new one sitting on the shelf, waiting for decent weather so I can install it.
@@alexderkach_ Well the PU RTABs were pretty tight even after 2 years. The problem is that the trailing arm can't follow his toecurve with pu. That even stresses the Chassis mounting point. That's what I have heard and read about this. Maybe it's different with the powerflex black ones. I got oem unibal (lemförder) bushings in my trailing arm top and bottom. Upper inner wishbone bush is still PU red 80 sha, but soon I will change it like you to powerflex black. The bottom wishbone is from the e46 csl with inner oem unibal. The 3 diff bushings are Strongflex 80sha red. A bit more differential noise but still "dailyable". And I checked the big rear bushing after 70k km and it still looks good. I have a ST XTA Suspension with adjustable front top mount for more camber. That's pretty good for ~1200€ But if you are running good semislicks and are fast it is too soft. Then i would change to a ST XTA plus 3 or KW Clubsport.
Hmm what you're saying about the toe curve makes sense. So I guess if I eliminated the deflection from the RTAB by stiffening that point, the next weakest point would that flimsy stamped steel lower control arm and the lower exterior bushing. Because the upper exterior bushing is a solid spherical bushing, which allows for the extra degree of freedom. I wonder if it would be possible to visually see the deflection on it, by stiking a camera underneath the car and taking it for a spin on a twisty backroad. In your case, after switching to Uniball, have you had to reinforce the mounting points (by welding)? If not, have you noticed any cracks on the chassis? I've always heard people laughing at the e46 chassis for being soft and crack, but never quite understood the exact reason behind it. I think this only happens when you start stiffening what otherwise would be the designed weakest point of the suspension, but maybe you could share some of your experiences in this regard.
@@alexderkach_ So from what I read about the past 7 years is, that the 4 subframe mounts crack a lot because of the rubber bushing are too soft or getting to much play, which causes a bending force on the bolts which cracks the "soft" chassis. On my compact I don't have cracks after 220k km, only some surface rust but I upgraded too PU 80 Sha 70k km ago. The RTA mounts are also a little rusty but no cracks. I read that Unibal as RTAB is the best and even the most stressless solution for the mounting points. Also the subframe bushings should be as hard as possibile. Of course stiffening every mounting point with reinforcement plates is always the best option, but I tried it without and have an eye on it.
Wow great job
Put the key on a wireless cell phone charger over night and the key will recharge. Should be good for 5 to 10 years
What tool kit did you use to remove the rubber bushings please?
It's this one: amzn.to/3WHfueu
wow i am amazed! keep up the good work!

Don't you love it when it becomes a full contact sport
I just did the upper control arms and struts on my crown Victoria. Why spend the money on a new car.
Especially considering that new cars are overvalued and there’s nothing interesting
See you soon 😂
It's pretty nice to catch up with these rattles and fix them, but from my own experience I wouldn't bother to disassemble some parts of the cars because you are in the risk of breaking them even when they are working fine. Regards and nice video.
Hey bud (and those who are watching this to do it yourself) - DO NOT MUSCLE OUT THE REAR BUSHING. See those little gaps/tabs on either side of the frame that holds the bushing in? Stick a small enough screwdriver in there, and pry horizontally on the bushing - there's two little tabs from the frame on either side of that gap that hold the bushing in. Do it to the other side and the bushing just pops out. Easy easy easy. I've been following this vid as I'm currently midway through this and encountered this revelation. GL to all who are doing it!
The only question I have is, how on earth have you been able to stick any screwdriver in there? I literally tried every screwdriver in my toolbox, in every position and variation possible... and I always had the issue of the driveshaft getting in the way.
this video is produced so well man, it helped me, do u play guitar? cuz i do too lool ❤
Thanks Gabi! I wish I played the guitar, I tried learning a long time ago and that's why I have these two guitars
@@alexderkach_ oh but thats cool too! i see u have an electric guitar, you like listen to like rock or metal music? a few years ago i used to do it more but i still do cuz i love her sm!
Would love to hear a review on these, what is the NVH vs handling improvement?
Thanks! I'm working on a video on these poly bushes right now, so ideas like this are hugely appreciated
@@alexderkach_ looking forward to it, I hope they have the desired effect

If there’s at least one place to use your indicator if only for other peoples benefit it’s on a roundabout. The amount of dickheads you wait for because they haven’t signalled then they turn before your turning and just left you waiting for nothing is annoying.
Wat? Its BMW .. Indicator not working😅
omg people drive so bad they don’t even know whats wrong here
Um ok
Psychopath too you were half lane on long run before you put your signal
Ooorrrr just throw it in gear
nice music taste bro!
What are you when you only engage the gear and don't pull the handbrake? 🤔

Okay 👍 i guess i'm a mechanic now😊
Not doing pointless actions makes you a psychopath, ok
I don’t even lock mine 😭
I dont get it. What makes being paraniod normal?
Psycho is the first one
Trick question the psycho is the forst option
Im def a psychopath
Definitely number 2
Well guess me and my family are psychopaths 😂
Or u could just be smart and hit the lock two times you know the car beeps right?? That’s you pulling on the handle
Except that it doesn’t
@@FelipeRey-zj5pqalmost every car does what are you talking about
I'm a psychopath then
😂
This also reminds me -- my first car was a ford escort and the lower pulley bolt was up against the frame. i chose to drill a hole through the frame for a socket. LOL teenage mechanic move
do you think its similar for the M54 engine + 5 speed manual version ?
From the similarities I've seen between my car (a basic diesel model) and the e46 M3 manual (top of the line gas/petrol model) - I'd say yes. But to be a 100% sure, it's always best to take a look under the car.
the best thing for cleaning a plastic manifold is to leave it submerged in egr cleaner or a mix of caustic soda(pottasium hydroxide) and ethanol (99%alcohol) over night no scrubbing needed afterewards caution dont clean an aluminium manifold this way because caustic soda disolves aluminium
Not everyone who is working on a car is mechanic but everyone who's design a car, is either child or an engineer
I know this problem, you have to disassemble the whole motor to change something small.
And all that is only if you were lucky enough to open the Tesla door using that high tech handle first
Mechanics are not stupid ,they are clumsy ,bih diference
Modern engineers are just Confronted to fit more complex stuff in more tiny places... The issue arrirse that company's don't pay them for Repair and Maintenance friendly designs because this would require a more sturdy business Wich could repair and supply the spare parts... So they are required to make it as difficult as possible to repair.... Now the Mechanics try to fix shit nearly impossible to fix since a proper repair requires a ton of time and Many times a near complete Sytem Disambly.... Welp.... Maybe the Company's Chefs are Stupid not the engis and Mechanics....
This is the different between design for best case scenario and design for worse case scenario
