I’m 69 years old, out of shape and haven’t done step in over 20 years. I found Dana’s class to be excellent! Her instructions are easy and clear and the routine was fun. Thanks Dana...I’ll be back
I suggest to those tripping over the step, just do basic left and right through the whole routine and watch it once or twice for entertainment before you try to do the routine. Before you can even be a beginner you have learn the height of your bench. Dana, thanks for a beginner workout that helped me pass the time so I wasn't looking at the clock every two minutes. You workout is timeless.
I am so glad to see step aerobics again, I'm tired of seeing all of the classes that does not flow properly. Now that I found step aerobics on you tube I will follow the programs. Thanks Dana!!
I agree that it's not a beginner workout, but just right there in the middle! Will add this to my list of favorites!!!
I agree. Was to fast and loads of choreography. Needs to be a little more simpler for a beginners video.
I started working out again and I am super happy to find this AWESOME workout! Love it and also love your kickboxing. Thanks Dana!
Just like to contradict a few other people here and give cred to Dana. Used to do step a LOT in the 90s, havent touched it for probably 20 years. Was doing yoga but let that go as well - became flabby and unfit. This was definitely OK for this re-beginner - when I missed a step it was easy to keep walking and catch up again. Tried a different youtube class the second day and it was terrible by comparison. Dana's speech is clear, volume is good, beat is great, and she pre-announces the steps really well. I sweated heaps which is exactly what I needed. Thanks Dana :)
I too did step 20 years ago. Now 76 and have no problem following. Just need to march in time as each is set is mastered. Just use feet and progress to hand movements later.
Def a beginner's class.
This takes me back. Lovely job. I'll be starting back up soon and wanted a refresher, this video gave me just that. Love it. Thank you.
glad to know I wasn't the only one that can only make it 12 minutes. I agree there needs to be a beginner class to the beginners step workout
+blackcatcutie1031 I made it 9 so you did better than me! : ) Not beginner.
blackcatcutie1031 She did say this was an endurance workout. I'll do as much as I can, and then next time try to do a bit more. It does take time go build endurance. Stick with it and you'll find you can add time as time goes by. I plan to use this as I rehabilitate a hip revision. Best to you!
Great video! People need to understand that everything on youtube can be played in slow motion hahaha.
Awesome workout. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was a fantastic workout. Pity it was only 30 minutes long. I like to alternate days with longer step workouts. Still, I absolutely loved this one. Thank you, Dana. In response to some of the comments here, I don't think this was inappropriate for beginners. I'm an advanced stepper in recovery from an injury and I found it to be simple, safe and excellently choreographed to warm the muscles well prior to intensive work. The routine was pretty simple, not high enough for intermediate but not simple enough for new steppers. I would say it's for established beginners who want a bit more challenge verging on intermediate. More by Dana would be most welcome, please. :)
Love Step classes. Great workout. worth learning all the steps and moves. Helps to have an excellent teacher. Takes a while to learn, but so worth it!
Amen
This is my favorite step class.
finally a real step class!!! YES
I love love love this video. It’s not beginners it’s improvers. It’s fun and engaging. Please do more. Love the choreography
This is a FANTASTIC class!!! Thank you Gymbox!!!
This is a great step routine! but it is more of an intermediate step. NOT BEGINNER.
I will definitely try it! I love step aerobics. Super fun and a great work out.
It's so hard. Cant believe this is beginners
Dana your class was just what in needed to get back in the groove after being sick at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Thanks Dana for such an easy fantastic step class.
It's a GREAT cardio step - if you're not a beginner. THANK YOU!!
What a great cardio workout. Thank you!
I absolutely loved this routine! I've been doing step a long time, though. Please consider changing the title to Intermediate so it doesn't frustrate a beginner with the step being so high, the backward facing and power moves, and no aerobic cool-down. Please keep posting these awesome routines, too!
CC Rozes hello there. I did step aerobics for a year and absolutely loved it but moved out of my old city to Atlanta, GA. A whole year now and I'm yet to find a step aerobics class near me. So you do this on your own at home? Does it feel same as a group or a lot more discipline is required? Thinking of getting my step and risers and just doing this at home. What do you suggest? I love this video. Can you recommend similar ones, please?
Scentiments hi, I can relate. Once I started loving step, the classes started to disappear. It’s hard to teach and so not enough instructors- maybe consider getting qualified and teaching (which I’ve done)? Also, yes, I then work out with online classes or DVDs which isn’t as fun because it’s not social; however, you can get the same or better workout. I like Jenny Ford, Yvette Bachman, Tatiana Trevia’s channel (Portugués language, FYI), Fit Outside the Box, Nekea Brown, and CatheTelevision (Cathe Friedrich is my favourite, but you will have to pay for her full workouts - they’re worth it). Others I have on DVD, which might be online: Amy Bento, Patrick Goudeau, Sharon Twombly, Christi Taylor, & of course Gin Miller!
Best wishes!
Good morning and thank you so much for that long list of instructors to look up and try my step aerobics ar home.
Wow! I never thought of getting qualified. Brilliant idea! Thank you so much. I will look that up but please share tips to your qualification: online or physical class, requirement, cost etc (my email is oluwaseun757@gmail.com), if you don't mind. I appreciate your help a great deal.
Scentiments here is a good place to get qualified (online): www.acefitness.org/fitness-certifications/group-fitness-certification/default.aspx
Here is a good free video on how to structure a step class:

If you want to teach a fantastic pre-choreographed routine and more easily find a job (although this route is more expensive), look here:

Love it. I wish they still had these basic classes at the gym.
Nice workout, thank you!
Great for beginners!
Step Count: 3,650 / 2.2KM. Despite being a basic workout, this is very good. As an advanced stepper recovering from a calf injury, I thought it might help to start basic so as to work my way back into an intense routine gradually. But this workout is good enough to be pleasurable. A bit too short, maybe, but still enjoyable. Cueing is excellent. Well done, Dana. I hope to see more workouts like this extended to 45, 50 and 60 minutes. Thanks in anticipation.
Great video Dana!! Kudos and THANK YOU!
Great beginner basic step routine!
thanks for a great workout.. just getting back into step.
Great workout and she made it easy to catch on.
I love it! Can't wait to start
Great workout - thanks for this :)
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo fun! I am sweating like crazy! Dana is awesome! I have found my new workout. :)
Thank you for making this. I am currently starting WW and I used to go to fitness today back many years ago. Step was what was fun for me. And it really help me get in shape. Your video is great for people like me just starting back out!
Really enjoyed again
Awesome! Great Workout for beginners
Love this!
Looks great will try it out later. Thanks
Excellent training
THANK YOU!!! Now that we're quarantined at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, I've been looking for a step class online and have tried several of them. I tried yours for the first time today and LOVED it! I truly appreciate your clear and concise cues as well as the timing of your cues. Because of that, I was able to smoothly follow your routine without any hesitation. I also appreciate your choreography. The succession of steps flowed directionally which makes for a safe and fun routine. Thank you very much for making this available. I look forward to trying out some of your other routines.
Mary Beth Hallahan
Hello. I agree this is a great class. I recently purchased a step for this routine and I can not wait to try it. I use to love these classes years ago. Any suggestions for a mat to use under the step? I forgot to order a mat.
@@nikic-h1902 Most steps have rubber on the bottom to keep them in place during use. However, a thin yoga mat may be place under the step if needed, but be careful not to trip on the yoga mat while moving around the step.
Mary Beth Hallahan Thank you very much for responding . Stay safe and healthy.
love it.nice workout. I had lots of fun.
This is a really good routine takes me back to the 1980's. I use my step without a riser now but still only managed 18 minutes. I intend to persevere until I can do the 30 minutes. I would say if you have never done step before it is a bit challenging .
Too good!!! Thanks!
Good workout. Tricky for the first time back to step in several years, but a good star.
I enjoyed your video... thanks!’
Haha, definitely not for beginners. I made it about 15 min in, but the steps that had us doing things while facing away from the video completely lost me, and I couldn't get my rhythm back after that. Glad to have gotten my heart rate up a bit, will find another video to learn the basics.
Wow I will be so fit!
Step has disappeared from the clubs in my area...replaced by zumba and hiit, and I miss it. Tried this routine at home and I love it!
the same here, so I ended up buying a step and just do it at home:) I love this shit though it's really not for beginners, I had to concentrate quite hard to actually follow her.
I love this! Challenging cause I only got the choreography right the last round but then you just do it again right? Great timely and clear instructions, very good, I'll be doing this one a couple more times! Thank you
Excellent workout! It's been awhile since I have stepped and this was a good refresher.
Love it!!
Enjoyed this
This was a good workout
Whoa, that was intense. =_= We are supposed to feel "nice and warm" but I'm feeling more like "sweaty and warm". Anyway I enjoyed it! I hope there are more of these.
This is an awesome workout. If you have shoulder joint pain during the winter months, doing this workout will get rid of your pain. It did it for me. Enjoy and good health!!
i enjoyed this routine..
Loving this will start trying it out tomorrow. WooHoo!
I tried about 5 minutes this morning and while its a great routine, I'm not ready for this level, give me about 2 weeks of a slower routine.
Check out Gin Miller's original Step Reebok video. DVDs are hard to find. I have one but I just use UA-cam. The complete video is there. View the instructional part first.
very good combos&workouts but is not easy for beginners if u said so... but is good keep going😘
MARAVILLOSO, DESDE ARGENTINA!!!♡
Hi thank you for this it’s a while since I did it but it was great xx
Great step videos! I'm writing an article about intro to step aerobics for beginners and I'll link to your content!
Excellent workout for someone who has not done step for about a year. A little more challenging if you’re a beginner, however.
I love these workouts! I did this one again. Will you all be making any more? I hope so.
Step is really for coordinated people or fast learners who can absorb choreography like a sponge
It is beginner. I took step for years and we did waaay more than this in our classes. This is def beginner.
this is not a beginner step class. Great for people who do step thank you.
@CC Roses, thank you so very much for the detailed feedback. I'm checking them out right away. I appreciate you!
gotta agree...the pace is not for a beginner...but the routine was easy to follow...thanks!
This is too advanced for a beginners in my opinion but it looks very sweaty! Good luck to those attempting it! 🧡 To those looking for a simple beginners step workout, try Jenny Ford.
very good.
I have 4 risers on each side and i just do basic step ups. 4 sets of 5 mins with breaks in between and I have really slimmed down. I do it while wearing stomach and thigh trimmers.
4 risers on each side is unsafe for most routines but it's also bad for your knees. You need to be super tall for 4 risers, and a super advanced stepper. Even then I find it to be unsafe. Even 3 risers is too much and I'm quite tall. Best to stick to 2 risers and maybe add a third for more challenge for a short part of your workout. If you can't keep up with a new routine, try starting without any risers at all until you get accustomed to the new steps. Doing up-and-down steps only is very boring and you'll end up discontinuing your workouts. It doesn't challenge you after a while and you'll get fed up. :) Hope this helps.
@@szendrich okay doc
It’s great.
My step just came today 😁
Mambo takes good coordination for sure!
what sort of beginners can do this ? absolutely un-doable
Hi Dana. Great class, but, when you do the pivot, you have your back to me, so, I can't tell what you are doing, but, I will play it back and practise at that spot before I start the whole work out. I guess I can't get all the moves the very first time.
Her instructions are clear though - appreciating this after a totally incomprehensible work out just now
love the workout - not sure about the dietary advice
Whoa... need a more basic beginner class... YIKES
ok how is this a beginners routine with all that damn turning i fell ova the daggone step
nikki moten 😂😂😂😂 in dead
nikki moten Loudly lmao!!! I almost fell too.
nikki moten she go way to fast dam white girl lmao!
😂😂😭
I legit just twisted my ankle
great
That was it!!!
This is basic as far as freestyle step goes, she breaks it down well & clear how the cheography is added, it's nothing compared to the step classes my Mum teaches if you want to see advance step...
I agree it's not beginner , shoukd b labeled differently. however for any of us that have past experience. ...excellent!
Hi I’ve just Started step and i want to really enjoy it, is it possible to have a mirrored version of your class . So that we can make sure we are going in the same direction😀
Good workout !! Beginners should first try to follow leg work and then try adding arms into the workout..
Great workout! I did feel like this was a beginner routine, but you need to learn the terminology.
Okay....so good. I wasn't the only one who was getting completely messed up. I know these steps are "beginner" steps but her movement is so fast. I couldn't keep up with the arms let alone the feet, LOL.
I have done aerobics before and I did struggle a bit but just kept moving through the tricky bits. I definitely thinks it a bit hard for beginners to pick up.
Just started back today with exercise after a good few months of basically eating crap and not working out at all. This was not a beginner's workout, very hard to follow! Almost off putting, shame because in a few weeks time this could be easier to follow. Will be trying a different one tomorrow.
I have just started the beginner step aerobic class so far so good, but am only able to do the first 20mins... I'll get to the 30min soon...
Nice
Agreeing with others. This is not for beginners....
+Anita Williams Completely agree. Def not for beginners. Not clear at all!
Agree also this is not for beginners....besides the music being too fast, when she comes off the step she is bouncing instead of the foot coming down and completely touching the floor. The second problem is she isn't using the mirror image technique, meaning that anything she does on her left leg you would actually do on your right leg, and vice-versa. I would recommend using Gin Miller's Step Reebok the Video-you will see the differences right away. Plus it's an easy to follow step workout for beginners too.
I agree. That is the best video. Mirror image is the way to go and increase the intensity with repeaters, not silly mambo-cha cha confusing foot work.
Also, what I find funny in watching step videos like this is that the instructors are like wind-up toys, lol! Recently, I've also started working out to Susan Powter's (remember her? lol!) step videos: they are excellent and designed for all fitness level. Check it out!
Eh, I've used this video since I've started, it's a little hard to follow at first, but if you keep at it you'll know the stuff in 2-3 times of going through the video. It's a bit hard and exhausting at first too, but thats where you just keep at it instead of going "its too hard". I think the first time I just did 10 minutes, then 15. And then the whole 30. Doesn't matter if you can't do it all at once, why would it? Just keep going instead of going "Ah, its too hard"
And I'm not exactly a "fit" person either.
Beginner?? Um, I don't think so! But I followed for the first 12 minutes and got the old heart rate up. Maybe need a Step for Dummies basic basic beginner video!
Tom S right....after two min i was breathing hard,
+Yolonda Gore. Agree definitely NOT a beginner. I barely made it to 10 minutes!
just as intense as how we had to it for junior year p.e it was a paaainnn but it worked so ima get back at it after 6 years
OMG this is NOT for beginners. Made it half way through; but great steps to learn
I made it through the entire routine only because I did step long ago but this definitely is not a beginners routine.
I've never done step, so could anyone inform me about the benefits?
What areas of the body does this most affect?
Does it burn a lot of calories and is it better say from the mini stepper machine?
Thanks in advance and sorry for bad English.
Challenging workout. I have been doing step for a while so I question the Beginner title.
Same! I ended up quitting this workout and doing a different one.
