Happened to me at a shop in Melbourne. Wouldn't even let me in to look around without an appointment....... This was 18 months ago at the height of the silliness though 😂
@cosmonz was that the Hourglass. Been there myself. It is mainly appointments only. Been waiting 18 months for a watch. Got an Explorer ll Polar dial within 3 months from my local boutique. Hourglass is a waste of time.
Exactly right. The customer service experience is just as important to me as the actual item I'm purchasing. If they act like they are doing me a favor entertaining my interest in their product I would just as soon take my business somewhere else. At this level of merchandise they should treat you like a longtime customer.
Imagine if they open the store at all times to everyone. Imagine the number of people that would be inside!! It would look more like a supermarket let alone the safety concerns. Appointments show that you’re really interested in the brand then you make an appointment and dress well for it and try to get yourself on the waitlist for what you want. It’s a privilege to get one, not a favour you’re doing them. When there is high demand for your products then you select your customers based on parameters you want to set for that product. Other horologist brands like Patek and AP also demand appointments. Ferrari demands appointments although some of their cars are over a million and although there is a lot of people who can afford those cars, Ferrari still limits access to their cars. If you don’t understand the concept then probably watches is not your thing.
We need to stop frequenting shops that treat its customers like they are doing us a favor. Remember ultimately the power is in our hands as consumers. Stop spending our money and they will get the picture eventually when the lease sign goes up and layoffs start.
Glad to see rolex still treating their customers like crap....at least its a consistent experience. 😂

Why I usually buy omega. Great watches and they don’t treat you like trash. Just the resale is not so good.
No reason to treat customers in that fashion no matter how hot the brand. Years ago at Benneton in the 1980s, you could not touch the clothing in the store, only associates could show you sweaters, shirts, etc. Where is Benneton now? Im sure in Dubai you have grey marketers that can get you any watch in one day for slightly over msrp. Its possible in the USA.
Never heard of a company that does not want to sell their products. I'm afraid Rolex suffers from 'false exclusivity', their watches are not for sale everywhere.
Why are you so pressed to get more boring Rolexes?? It would’ve been a pleasant surprise if you’d bought some of the other amazing and interesting brands you showed in this video.

Most of us will see the turn around in our lifetime when Rolex will be just like other brands. Shitting in customers' faces for this long has to pay back.
It's fairly standard with limited supply they aren't going to sell watches to non-residents. That's what I've been told in multiple countries which seems fair enough too.
If everyone would stop playing the AD game, they would stop being selective.

I’ve been told by many that Japan is the place to buy Rolex watches and other brands as well, at least they treat you with respect.
Really enjoy the walkabout videos. Pretty shocked at this point that they won’t even put your name down on any lists. Went for a popular configuration DJ in the UK and got an offer in a month.
I think they’re hanging on to this exclusivity thing as long as possible when in reality a lot of Rolex models are available at around or below MSRP on the grey.
I just wanted to ask which AD you went to? I put my name down for a mint green DJ with jubilee and flutted bezel at goldsmiths. 3 months on and no bueno. Any tips?
Why the store you mentioned are tough with customers when it comes to buy a rolex like you mentioned ? Are they very selective when it comes to customers ? Or is it a different reason ?

They don’t need to sell watches anymore. They are a family trust turned over to the Switzerland as a charity. They make more from investments than selling watches. I mean, how else could they get away with this crap. lol

Unbelievable how bad the so-called 'Rolex experience' is nowadays. You really have to have an extreme obsession to flex to go through everything you have to go through.
You walk around like a rich beggar. I have been collecting watches for over 30 yrs..last 13 I had been focus on mainly reps. They are more liberating and frees up your time sucking up to these ADs.

Frankly, why the obsession with Rolex, once you have one is it not enough? I was in Breitling today and enjoying the new Avenger collection, really exciting. Rolexes are for boring people.
For sure about 50% of the Rolex watches that you see people wearing are fake now. Celebrities, sports stats, businessmen etc.
Rolex has become a very doooshy brand and the clones are indistinguishable.
The level of class by wearing a clone is about the same thing as buying an authentic one so why bother.

Interesting walkabout. I think your Dusseldorf ADs are hanging on like grim death to the idea that watches are hard to get. They are doing themselves no favours since they can only sell out the back door at less than RRP for many models and grey dealers will lowball them more as times get tougher. I did get the offer of a watch after a try on at a store in a provincial city here in UK. It was not what I wanted so I declined. Times are changing and soon the buyer will hold the whip hand again.
I should add that the SA was visibly shocked at my decision not to buy. I think it was a new experience for her. 😊

Ich bleib dabei, in DD eine Uhr im Luxus-Segment kaufen zu wollen ist einfach zu muehsam. Ich fahre da lieber das Ruhrgebiet mit dem Zug ab und besuche ein paar AD's wo es sichtlich einfacher ist.

To hell with Rolex. I own 2 vintage submariners (bluesy and black) that I have had for over 30 years but will never give them any more business as they have become greedy, overpriced and snobby. Soooo many other great watches out there to buy for 1/4 the price not to mention in some ways a better product.

rolex acts like very rare gems but find shit easily at 2nd hand shop.
I recently completed a trip where I passed by Rolex ADs. None had any Rolex that were exhibition only. Cities: Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava, Rome, Lucca, Gibraltar, Ajaccio, and Las Palmas.
Rather get a 1:1 clone from china then tidal with this stupid brand that is super hyped
In summary couldn’t buy any Rolexes so bought a couple of bags and had lunch with a beer. Sounds exactly like most of my Rolex shopping days around the world..
